Should MK11 bring back the sexyness and fan service of MK9 to a degree?

I'm a lover, not a fighter
I say hell no!!!

MKX felt much darker and less campy then previous titles due in part to this. I think that women not looking ludicrous really added to the atmosphere. Most of the women had alternate outfits that were "sexier" anyway, so I don't know what the issue is.

If you want sexy women, just go to Pornhub.

I don’t want any sexy Baraka
Baraka might be one of the most extreme cases of butterfaces in fiction, but a butterface goes hand in hand with a nice body most of the time. And that's what Baraka has. Baraka is ripped out of his mind, which is again viewed as an appealing trait.

I feel like when people complain about overly sexualized female bodies in all forms of media, they tend to completely forget how ridiculously out of the norm male bodies are at the same time. Look at Captain America and Batman. They look like they've been on a diet consisting out of chicken, rice and all the steroids on the planet their entire life.

And then there is also this:

It’s 2019 guys. You don’t have to be extreme, but a little awareness might be nice.

Making characters scantily clad sex symbols strictly because they’re female is sexist. It is. This isn’t to say that you can’t have characters whose sexy nature actually fits their in-game story and lore. That’s ok. But having to make every ninja or princess a stripper strictly because they’re female, and heavily accentuating their sensitive parts, when it doesn’t even fit their character, is super passé. The industry is evolving beyond that.

Also, even characters who are written as a temptress don’t need to be wearing a bikini just to fulfill that role. Take Catwoman for example — that’s an adult-ish character who still maintains a sense of intrigue and mystery. Way more interesting than “Let’s make a boob babe in a halter because that’s what we always do in video games!”

I’m all for the switch. You want a warrior, then dress the character like a warrior. Sex appeal is not the only key kind of beauty out there. And you can be portrayed as pretty without looking like a Hustler ad.

Do it if it fits, not ‘just because’. We all need to grow up just a bit.

It’s a false equivalency. One of them is portrayed as a suerhero with necessarily unrealistic superpowers. So it makes sense to have an outlandish physique that visually supports those superpowers (super strength and power).

Barbie is almost always portrayed as a model for real-world women. She’s a working girl, a mother, a doctor, a pilot, a princess. Her brand isn’t going out to fight evil aliens with superhuman strength and a giant sword (not to say that it’s never happened, but that’s not what the majority of Barbies are/were about).

So yeah, they felt like they didn’t want to be as misleading to young girls in that role. Comparing to He Man or Colossus or something is just a sign of not truly understanding the issue.

You've completely misunderstood my point.

Barbie could have been an overweight woman in her 40s with blue hair and the side of her head shaved. She could have still been a mother and a doctor and a car saleswoman and whatnot. But the fact is that Barbie has an idolized body type, which has -in the eyes of certain people- set an unrealistic bar for young girls, while they grow up. They want to be like Barbie and they want to look like Barbie. There are people out there, who have spent thousands and thousands of real life Bison dollars on cosmetic surgery in order to look like Barbie and Ken. No one wants to become a doctor, because Barbie has a toy line, which shows her in a white doctor coat.

I'm talking about the look of these characters and not what they represent.
I've been lifting weights for over a decade now. And one of the reasons I started lifting weights was because of how action figures like He-Man and superheroes like Batman look. I've been brainwashed to think that having muscle goes hand in hand with being attractive. That's what the last and this generation told us about aesthethics.
And that wasn't always like that. Many, many blue moons ago art often featured people with some extra pounds. That was viewed as aesthethically pleasing. Most notably art from Peter Paul Ruben.

While I agree the He-Man / Barbie example is not a very good one, I think Krankk has a point. There are plenty of crazy male depictions in comics and gaming and film. I mean look at the recent superman dude. Go google what he had to do for that and how his diet was controlled by his contract, along with daily weigh ins and measuring.

The big difference is that it is ok for people, reporters, girls w/e to comment on the male physique while it is taboo to comment on girls. There was a interview a while back when Mera's costume was revealed for Aquaman and all this stuff happened about how sexist it was and all that. The Actress had to come out with the story that she fought to have that costume. They originally had a design kind of like armour. She wanted to have a comic accurate. When asked why she campaigned for this costume she said she wanted comic accuracy and talked about how her co star was in the Gym everyday, starving himself and stuff to make himself physically match the character and she felt that was her job as well.

Is the 2nd shot sexist? Or just fucking awesome.

What I am getting at here is that unrealistic depictions hit all of us. It isn't a bad thing for a girl to be depicted as sexy. Every girl I ever spoke to loves feeling sexy. Just take 20 seconds at evo to see all the girls in costume. It isn't bad to show men who are fit and hyper masculine. Most men I know would kill to loose that fucking gut and love handles. Lets be honest everyone, not matter there sexual preferences likes looking at attractive people.

MK is fantasy game about the greatest physical specimens in reality, who compete in a battle of physical prowess.... I mean what would you expect those people to look like?

These guys?

What I would like to see is different body shapes. It felt like all the body shapes were the same in MKX and I2
yeah.. as hyper athletic fit as fuck humans all have vastly different body shapes. It is discrimination. Last time I saw the 100 meters at the Olympics everyone was tall and thin.. where were the short fat sprinters!!

No, I prefer the direction they were going in MKX with more realistic characters..
Agreed. MK9 is a cartoon. MKx the characters look like humans. Cassie and Briggs are infinitely more sexy than anything in MK9.. and Lou Kang and Cage in MKx didn't look like a upside down triangular bag of walnuts.

I meant some taller, some shorter, some with small hips, some more hourglass shaped. Thick thighs, skinny legs, broad shoulders, high shoulders... etc. I can't believe you really think that all Olympic athletes have the same body shape

I can't believe you think that is what I said. Try reading it again.. this time a little slower. I'm sure you will get it on the 2nd pass.

Your post that I replied to read sarcastic af. Point is, the characters would look better if they weren't exact copies but with different faces and clothing on them.

Well, if we do indeed get the outfit customization system from INJ2 in MK11 then hopefully we get a lot of different options for the various characters. I thought some of the outfits were decent in MKX, but others I found quite bland.

Regarding sexyness and fan service, I am just happy the faces are going to be much more attractive than in the past, if INJ2 is anything to go by. MKX was already a decent upgrade over MK9/INJ1, but INJ2 was on another level completely.

But yeah, as far as the outfits go, I am hoping for a wide variety of options using the gear system. Take someone like Jacqui as an example, she shouldn't just have military type of clothing options. Give the girl some freaking variety for crying out loud, lol.

In addition to the actual gear pieces, the shader options will go a long way to make some of these blander characters stand out. MKX was a bit too muted in color for some of the characters.

But, once again, I am saying all this assuming we are getting gear customization similar to what we had in INJ2. I may be setting myself up for disappointment if it's actually not in the game and we end up just getting alt costumes again. We'll see soon, I guess.

Your mind tricks won't harm me!!!
it's all subjective, to me these are sexy

if you mean just showing more skin...you're on the internet and there's plenty of that . The costume should fit the character imo.
Kitana,Jade,Tanya can be deadly, sexy, classy royal ect...Millena is a more carnal, playful, sensual character . Sonya costume fit her demeanor and character. of course there are no hard rules, NRS can do whatever they like. Cassie should have a "classic" military theme skin and a "rocker-bad-ass alt" for her cocky punk attitude.
Nrs dropped the ball on Jacqui's appearance because her intros and in game dialogue, shows a more playful, sassy, girly tone than her appearance. Funny since her concept art shows this off better than the game.

Bottom line is - i think balance is good. there's place for both imo
most mk9 female outfits were a little ridiculous tho

All hail emperor Liucifer Kang!
While I dont mind it, keep them covered up,I dont need that kind of distraction. While at it,make them fat aswell, so we just might not have bullimic hurtboxes anymore! Cassie's hurtbox in Mkx was ridicilous!

Nope, and they won't regardless, so ayy.

No matter how much you love titties, Mileena's default looked absurd in MK9 and thankfully they'll be staying away from that level.

I personally thought Mortal Kombat XL had the best looking female character designs in the franchise. They were more realistic, both in terms of body proportions and attire than, say, Mortal Kombat (2011) (which of course was over the top by design).

Much less heels and silly jiggle, while still looking very appealing, and I say this is a Mileena and Kitana main. Mileena's Tournament skin is fantastic, and so much "better," in my opinion, than her default in the previous game.

If they went back to the earlier style, would I freak? No, it's a game and they're simply polygons. Given a choice though, Mortal Kombat XL style all the way.
