Probably not the full extent of MK9, which was over the top, when it came to fan service. I personally liked it, but for many players it took away some of the immersion.

But at the same time I felt like MKX took out pretty much all the sexyness I personally expect from Mortal Kombat. I expect extreme violence and tongue in cheek lewdness. And all of that was completely gone in MKX. Which is why I was happy to see some of it return in Injustice 2 with a sexual character like Poison Ivy and certain angles during the story mode (Harley Quinn and Black Canary for example).

Imagine Jade wearing a full body overall in MK11. That would just not be cool in my book. Jade is one of the hottest collections of polygons in gaming and I think that NRS shouldn't shy away from showing that.
Keep older, matured characters like Sonya Blade wrapped up in bags, if you want, but for others... go back to your roots.

I don’t think showing some skin is as bad as people make it out to be. It makes sense for some characters. I liked kitana’s mkx outfit, it showed skin but it looked good. I think Sonya for example looks better as a soldier. Depends on the character for me. Mileena dresses like a stripper to keep the attention off of her grill.

  4. I don't mind them showing skin tbh. As long as it's not as over the top as MK9. Keep the proportions realistic then I'll be fine with whatever.

The characters (both male and female) in Mortal Kombat games should always be sexy. That being said, showing more skin doesn't make a character more sexy in my opinion. I actually think the girls' outfits in MKX made them much more attractive than the basic bikinis and high heels of MK9.

So I definitely think there should be sexy outfits, but they should also be well-designed and flavorful instead of simple lingerie.

I don't see why we can't have a bit of column A and some of column B.
MK9's outfits were a bit too much, imo. Some of the costumes looked like they were hanging on for dear life!
I liked the direction MKX had, for some of the characters. Kitana's main costume, Mileena's Kahnum costume and Sindel's costume were great example of being both cool designs while also being sexy.

As long the designs are cool, I'm good though. That's what I care about the most.

  12. Only if NRS learn how to model female bodies that resemble a human being; the girls in MK9 looked like buff twigs with balloons strapped to their chests, and it was cheap to look at. Also, generally, appearance should reflect the character's traits. A sleazy outfit makes way more sense for Mileena or Tanya than it does for Sonya or Sindel.

  14. I'm still annoyed at how Kitana showed more skin in MKX than Mileena.

Mileena got jipped on her skins.

The fact that her Tournament looked NOTHING like her MK9 costume and was just a copy of her Khanum costume with the hair / mask from her base costume. They really decided to play her like that and the fact that she might not even be in MK11, which means she won't have gear so that I can give her a bomb-ass costume......:(

Kitana and Tanya still showed plenty of skin in their defaults. In Mileena's Kahnum skin you could see her thong. Cassie wore a skintight catsuit, and Jacqui had an alt specifically to put her in a tank top instead of her tactical gear. All the complaints about MKX being 'sexless' feel crazy to me -- it just wasn't as over-the-top porn-style as MK9.

  16. Ummmm it doesn't count unless the only thing covering their boobs is a single strip of fabric over the nipples. Duh.

  17. I don't play Injustice, so I'm ignorant of its contributions here. That said, you're right that NRS modeling (particularly of faces) improved substantially in MKX (though it sucks that all the females share the same rig, I believe). But I didn't mention it because there aren't many skimpy outfits to form a point of reference. Revenant Kitana is the only one that comes to mind, and admittedly it looks good. Really I just hate the female character design in MK9 and I don't want to see a repeat of it; they all looked like strippers, Sonya most of all somehow.

    Yes and no.
Women being half naked should not be the end all to sexiness for women. Everyone should be designed in their own way, showing what they are as a character. As someone has mentioned before, Sonya being a soldier and in gear makes more sense then her boobulars bouncing for the sake of itself. Granted, characters that are meant to be eye candy (Mileena, Johnny) can be overproduced to show that the characters are what they are. Have characters show skin if their character is outrageous and fits the tone. Have a character be shy and closed of if that fits the tone better. The main thing that I'm saying is to have variety. Every woman will seem somewhat the same if they all dress like bubushkas or escorts. Same with men. If every guy where's a hoodie or is in a speedo, it would feel the same.

The Injustice 2 female faces are some of the best in the biz, imo. Black Canary and Harley Quinn in particular were gorgeous. The NRS modeler Solomon Gaitan (who seems to be their go-to for women) has been upping his game in each successive iteration -- he said on Tumblr that in MKX the rigging warped some of his models' faces a little bit, and clearly they fixed that problem for IJ2.

(Worth noting that NRS has also been getting better at producing attractive men -- Aquaman in IJ2 was hot as hell.)

Now don't get me wrong, show me a pair of tig ol' biddies that are magically being kept together with fabric and I'll be enamored, but don't make it the only thing to look at. A pretty face can go a long way. Also hips. And Thighs.

If you want 'fanservice play DOA or Soul Calibur.

Females looked trashy and lame in MK9 and I dont want them to go back. Injustice 2 got it right.

Although MK9 was more over the top sexual than MKX or Injustice 2, the female characters looked a million times better in those games. The female characters in MK9 were built like linebackers, they ALL had enormous tits, and jaw lines that would probably break Scorpion's hand if he punched them, looking so ridiculous kinda took me out of it. The MKX females were way more attractive and had cool designs(most of them at least).

I2 was a pretty fine level of sexiness, MK9's was awful. Nobody had any personality, just tits the size of my head. I'll take Harley in that sportsbra outfit over flesh pits Mileena any day

I usually agree with a lot of things you say about the series but this I vehemently disagree with.

    1. Because there are some real freaks in these games and if they lost their scariness/horrificness/functional designs they would lose a huge aspect of their identity. I don’t want any sexy Baraka, no sexy Reptile, no sexy Torr, no sexy cyber-ninjas, etc. it just isn’t what those characters are about. They aren’t Edenians or movie stars.

    2. Diversity in appearance is what helps make characters more iconic and defined. Not to mention if everyone was the same generic level of attractiveness no one would really be that notable. Should Kitana, the warrior princess always look exceptionally pretty? Definitely. Should Sheeva, the hulking four armed dragon woman? No, she’s supppsed be scary and intimidating.

One of my gripes with the series has always been how they have so few female monsters, and the few that exist aren’t really all that monstrous compared to the men.

This isn’t really about equality or representation, but simply character diversity for the sake of keeping things interesting.

Anyway, as other have said, it really should be down to what the character is about.
