For all my years of shit Guile matchups, from Hugo and T. Hawk to Abigail, I don’t think any even come close to how bad Cody seems to have it. If my V Skill whiffs point blank against one more of these motherfuckers I’m throwing this game out the window lol.

I actually don’t think Cody or Abigail have it that rough vs guile tbh. They lose it. But only slightly.

Abigail pre-buffs had it pretty bad, dude. And Cody would have an answer if V Skill actually worked but as it stands he has to hold fucking everything or you have to risk your foot going right through Guile into full-combo punish.

cody easily loses to guile. hell he loses to fang. literally any character with a fireball and decent walkspeed is a grind for cody lul little scrubby ryu players are annoying to deal with in neutral

vskill whiff thing is intentional, the move is slow and loses to to meaties like uriens or eds ex dp or falke

Stop using vt1 man. vt2 is godlike in the fireball matchups. But yeah he’s definitely gonna lose to fang, fang does very well vs people that don’t have 3 framers and just have slow buttons in general.

vt1 is better for the character but i think vt2 will also be important to learn. i knew day 1 and lots of cody players are starting to see it, like xian or gunfight have realized it too.

you still have to score the command grab im vt2 to get the setplay and literally all i see cody players do his random dash up command grab to get started. good luck with that in a month lul

Yeah the more I play him the more I realize that if you’re using vt2 for the command grab you’re just hoping some nonsense happens. But being able to reflect a boom and cancel the reflect immediately into a rock and pressure guile from fullscreen is something most characters can’t do. He immediately needs to make a risky decision. Also vt2 st hp is the truth.

That’s fine, do you have any advice for the matchup? Especially since for some reason against that character and that character alone, V Skilling crossups doesn’t seem to be an option.
Eh. The typical guile gameplan is all you need till you have vt2. Vs guile with any character you wanna stand at around his f hp range and just make him guess between cc button, dash, or jump. If you get knocked away walk back to that range. Guiles tools are strong but he’s gotta play better than you if you turn it into a guessing game like that. Once you have vt2 he actually doesn’t wanna throw booms because you have reflect xx rock and you can do high rock to pressure, the fwd rock hit that travels in an upward arc will hit him if he jumps his own boom, if he tries to throw another boom your just frame rock will punish him fullscreen and if you just throw the rock and don’t hit it and walk behind boom you can get close.

honestly i just need to play more games.im not thinking about matchups until i learn my character first, when all the mucle memory on optimal performance is there. losing to people you know are bad sucks but its only a matter of time until my hands catch up to my brain.

He seems like an actually difficult character to play. He’s like cammy where his players can say they’re working hard, but unlike cammy his players aren’t lying.

EntropicByDesign

It's all so very confusing.
I feel like Cody's vt2 is way better in a vacuum than 1, but 1 is way more practical. Vt2 is a beast when things work out, but they don't always work out and getting value out of it in some MUs is hard.. where-as vt1 is less flashy and shenanigan-y, its more consistent in value returned..

But Rushdown talking about methods to reflect and get in vs Guile makes wonder if over time, Cody players far better than myself will find ways to maximize it's potential. I'll almost always use it regardless just because it's more interesting/fun to me.

I really feel like, after more time with Cody that he's quite good but without slightly better all around walk speed and possibly some projectile armor/immunity/something built in to ex zonk, he's going to fall short of being great. That said, I'm not going to pretend I can predict the over-all balance effect vs some characters if ex.Zonk did have projectile immunity.. but it all depends on when the invuln activates, f1 or later, etc.

Oh and also, fuck ex.zonk losing to literally anything it encounters. Having to sacrifice two punch buttons for a handful of frames, and a bar, should at least buy me priority over Ls and Ms..Jeebus.

I appreciate the effort but I don’t get how that “typical Guile game plan with any character” translates to Cody with his one bad CC button that gets beat from that range by just about anything Guile does. It’s not like he really has to guess between dash or jump either; he can generally go about his business and anti-air/avoid jumps on hella late reaction with about eight different options.

I feel like you’re up-playing the rock counter-zoning too. V1 Guile doesn’t give a fuck if you reflect a boom and only has to worry about just frame rocks. Even without it though he has enough time to just sit and wait after a reflect to see what you do and react accordingly with most boom speeds. The idea that you can “get close” behind a fake toss seems like a major stretch to me.

Idk maybe I’m missing something (everything) but I’ll take your word for it since you’re the better player and just keep grinding it out. Thanks again for trying, dude.

just give cody walkspeed in the next stealth patch and decent jump ins then i could make this work.

he’s just handicappped for no reason outside of his kit. im playing with 1000 pound weights on over here. unles he jumps then an invisible parachute deploys. every other character essentially has akuma walkspeed vs him and guile tier antiairs abilities lul its dumb

id understand if he had gdlk tools of literally any kind or something but he doesnt really excel at anything cody specifc looking at his kit. at least Blanka and Sakura excel in their playstyles. falke doesnt which is why shes garbo imo

@New York Pizza ggs, that was a lot of games. thanks for the practice. connection was a bit rollbackier this time or maybe its just me but lets play again soon
Yeah, again np I'm definitely seeing where I'm lacking and it's helping me a lot. I thought our connection was slightly better this time around but I still dropped confirms for days lol. Yeah definitley I'm on pretty much every night practicing.

I feel like Cody’s throw game is terrible bc of his trash-tier walk speed, and that’s especially a problem when one of his trigs relies on a command grab lol.
