"12th-level intellect" Brainiac General Discussion

This character is going to be good as fuck

Based on what 16-bit said throw tech punish combos will be removed like they are in non competitive mode, so we'll lose trait when you land a grab, tech or no tech.
The changes of the last patch already apply for all modes except tournament, 16 bit said that with this patch they will be applied for the tournament mode as well. Try it for yourself Batman and others can't combo off the throw techs already in practice mode, but Brainiac can.

Ah ok) I see it now in previous patch notes, batman's and others are bug fixes which were applied immediately and for brainiac it is going to apply later, you are correct)

Does anyone else think that the animation for trait is hilariously goofy?
"HAAA!!" *points*
"HOOOOH!" *points while shoulders are awkwardly shrugged up*
I mean, what the hell, doesn't he control minds and shit? Why the hell does he have to point like an idiot to guide his bombs?

What I understood is he can hold it while blocking and while being hit. If the drone is released, it will disappear if Brainiac is hit first or blocks an attack.

His trait buff feels kinda gross you guys.

It has a very large window whenever you are hit or blocked where you cannot release it otherwise it will just disappear. For instance if you block supermans air laser at the maximum height in the air, you wont be able to release the drone until he has fully recovered back on the ground.

It feels like i might as well have just pressed the trait button again because it takes so long.

Keeping his trait loaded at all times through hit and block should drastically increase his safety and meterless dmg. That really seems like what the trait was meant for and this buff should let him use it that way a lot more consistently.

So excited to actually commit some fancy trait shenanigans to muscle memory.

This trait buff is gonna do so much for this character.

To explain the rules of holding trait, you cannot release trait during block stun or hit stun, if you do so the trait won't come out. If you can't move then that means no trait release.

This applies to knockdowns and juggles, you cannot release it during a juggle, and you can't release it while coming off the ground until you can move again, not including back/forward dashes. So the frame you wakeup it seems like you are able to release it, but if you wakeup with a dash you still haven't been reset as standing so you can't release trait until the recovery of the dash is over. Same idea with tech rolls, air escapes and throw/throw techs.

From the games I played I can tell he is a lot better. Getting in with the trait buff is 10 times easier than before. The only thing I don't like is being stuck in that slow backdash animation and not being able to release it until it is completely over.

After playing some games the trait buff, tho weird, is still very good at getting in against zoning and his corner game.
The batman mu in specific is alot better now with the trait buff.
And now he can hold his trait and block wakeups in the corner and not give up his trait.

Doesn't seem like Brainiac was buffed much at all. Being able to hold trait on block or hit ia nice but he still isnt close to sniffing top 10 in this game

I don't know how you can see the trait change as anything but a major buff, I'm not gonna say I've grinded matchups all day long but it's going to make a huge difference in most matchups, some key ones like Batman which someone mentioned should be a lot better.

And we got a damage buff.

Doesn't help too much if the moment you release it disappears on block or hit. Damage buff might as well not exist. Its about a 2% buff if that as far as I can tell. Trait once released should stay on block. That was the buff he needed

Don't release it when you are about to be hit, release it during your offense or your approach.

This buff is probably a lot better then your suggested buff TBH. It's kind of a weird thing to compare but I think this is far more useful.

Damage buff isn't crazy but his lack of damage was over exaggerated, he gets as much as 20 more damage on bigger combos and his small little ground combos will do more which is where he was lacking.

Getting the hang of his new trait management now... the mixups are real, and also is the meterless dmg. His air footsies are probably one of the best in the game now that he can punish people with trait for trying to anti air him.
Played mostly the superman and batman matchups. Batman still feels a little bit hard but both feel way better now.

I'm getting the impression that the point of the trait is to be an offensive rather than defensive tool. You're supposed to use it to get in, maintain pressure, fill gaps, etc., not to help you get out of pressure, off the ground, and so on. It sucks slightly that it seems to be an inferior version of Batman's trait when Batman already has better non-trait tools as well, but this at least seems usable.

Thats why I think Brainiac needs more. Batman is better at everything still.

After a lot of games tonight my impression is he's obviously better after the patch but i dont think hes gonna be ridiculously super good like people fear he might become. Right now i cant do the high damage stuff that lord @EMPEROR PRYCE can do but it seems his damage was barely buffed.

It feels a lot better, had little time to play, but can already feel the difference-all my trait combos are now actually practical. Also double trait set ups))) those are crazy

I can hit almost 50% with 3 bars, 40+% with 2. With 1 bar all of his combos are still in the 30% range.

I hit 40 for one bar as my bnb, with 2 it is around 47 midscreen and 52 in the corner. With stored trait I get 40+ off both d3 and divekick midscreen for a bar, and we get around 35 with drone meterlessly off 12u2.

If you want more damage, end your combos with db2 or db2 mb.

Typical bnb: dive kick mb, b3, bf3, 1, 2, db2 mb. 2 bars and it should be close to 500 damage.

Corner: F3, 3, bf3, 3, db2 mb. Close to 500 for 1 bar.
