The Need Help Choosing Main/Secondary Character Discussion Thread

Before you make a final decision, I would wait until Kp2 comes out with the patch, all of the characters will probably be at least somewhat different than they are now, so you can make a more informed decision then.

For now, just dabble with all of those characters.

When starting out, learn the character who is your favorite...so when you are going through the struggle phase, you deal with it because you're enjoying using the character that you love.

Go to the Quan Chi and Ermac sub forums and they will teach you how to play the characters.

Also watch Quan Chi matches from Michelangelo, Shujinkydink, Ketchup, Korea The Dragon and others. Quan Chi is VERY good but isn't easy starting out because he demands a lot of inputs for combos and such.

Ermac doesn't have as many representatives but Big D I know is the face of Ermac right now. Check him out for that knowledge.

I've been kind of stuck looking for a character to main as of late. I thought Bo Rai Cho would be fun to play but after trying to learn him I realized I didn't love the style of the character. This brings me to my question what are your methods for choosing mains? Do you choose characters you like or based off of play style? Also what are some tips for efficiently learning how to play a character?

Well, I need to find an OP character to blame for my own faults, I suck as a player but when I face an OP character I say to myself "Augustus, this is not your fault XXX is OP"

So pleaseeeeeeeee who is the most hateable OP character right now? I can't live without knowing it!!

Hey guys.

Need help picking a new character to play. I main EB and D'Vorah. Been playing them for ages so I'm decent I suppose.

But I have a mate who has just recently started and we have a jam day this weekend. So I would like to show up with a new character.

I don't have any of the dlc characters.

I have been thinking about Reptile purely because he looks cool. Don't know what variation to go with.

But the main attribute I need the character to have is that they need to look cool on screen. That's it. Flashy combos. Weird shit. Whatever.

Thanks for any direction guys. I need to get somebody soon as tomorrow and Friday are my only practice days.

Pumped Up Jax is the way to go for Flashiness. All those punches you can use and always end with your opponent on their feet. Disgusting.

Wow after reading al the post it's even harder for me to choose a secondary character.

I've been playing for a month and a half, my main is scorpion ninjutsu/hellfire decent my I say, getting better everyday I be ryhming all the way :p (^_^)

I love scorpion since MK1 he has always been my main, in MK9 I used Smoke and Reptile alot also.

Now I'm thinking of picking up a extra character, I got a few of them in mind.
What makes scorpion number one for me, his teleport, FBC and blades not his mixups cause it aint alot so I want a character with more options.

Erron black outlaw - for his mixup options and hard combos
Ermac Master of souls - for his teleport
Takeda Shirai Ryu - for his long range and teleport
Alien Acidic - for the fast gameplay and mixups
Sub-zero Grandmaster - for his clone

I hope you guys have a tip which character will suit me better its really a challenge picking the right character in this case cause all the once I mentioned are really good but I dont have time to master them all.
Last week I streamed some endless tower if any of you got time check out a few minutes so you can see how I play maybe you guys can tip me on the way I play

Good point, I was a Smoke main in MK9, and I can definitely see the comparisons to Takeda. I think I'm just to damn stubborn to pick up Takeda because he is by far my worst match up in this game and I've had some of my saltiest moments ever playing this friggin' guy. But I seriously have been thinking "if you can't beat em' join em." Maybe I should give him a go...what variation would you recommend I start with?

don't know which character to go for...ive used shinnok, raiden, lao, tanya,..i mean ive tested pretty much every character in the game but can't seem to find a good well rounded and solid safe character.. i mean even when i do find a pretty good character as far as pressure goes, he lacks at full screen..not asking for an unstoppable char.. just what u guys think would be a good choice?

A-list Cage has terrific pressure and a good full screen game as well, with the mid hitting Forceballs.
Mileena also fits this description and so does Liu Kang.

Inb4 A-list/Mileena/Kang mains tell me their character's pressure and fullscreen game is actually garbage.
