Played a fun Online set before, but what was the most interesting is I've never had ShadowPlay properly record in-game Online lag before. Something must have changed in ShadowPlay's last update, because now it seems to!

Despite this being a laggy set at points, it was still fun. Note this is the PC version of the game, so no XL content or 1.12 updates.

Two match vids for you guys, the first of which I need advice on, the second of which not as much. This is also probs the first Australian/New Zealand footage many of you have seen, too. So if you guys want more Aussie footage it'll be on my YT/Twitch.

How do we approach Kung Lao friends? My Mileena is still pretty fresh, so excuse the missed inputs and odd decisions of when to armour at times. Apart from that, I think I get opened up by stagger pressure a bit too easily (I'm not paying as much attention to when the Kung Lao likes to stagger, or if there's particular habits he has when staggering). If there's any strong character specific stuff I'd need to know that'd be much appreciated. :)


This one is a set with another Kung Lao main, but he's opted to go with his secondary Mournful Kitana. I got a way with a lot of stuff here, he didn't adjust a lot of his zoning habits at times which made it easy to exploit at times. Also conditioned him fairly well with the oh/low mixups I think. Don't mind the fact that I'm talking to myself btw, party chat was on but they disabled broadcast settings... haha. Enjoy!

Trying to get better with Mileena. I have some matches well two so far I wanted to you guys to give me some pointers on what to do and not to do.

 
Had some fun with the Very Hard AI this past Thursday night, which I haven't played too much.

It input reads significantly more than the Hard AI, which makes the matches more "robotic" in a sense. To date though, I've never lost a set against it as Mileena, but I've found Hard feels more like simulating a set against a real person.

Anyway, enjoy. Note this is the PC version of the game, so no XL content.

Yeah, like I said, input reading :).

With things like that, it's... interesting to play against. On the one hand, it's a challenge making "godly reads" all the time, but on the other hand, it's boring because you're trying to dupe it into the same pattern to simply Roll, B1, 2, 1+3, Extend. You can't really do much else; or at least I can't just yet.

It's two sets where I'm Kitana (Mournful/Assassin) against Unbreakable Sub-Zero. The first set is against Very Hard AI, and you'll see that I couldn't get anything going. Hard is a different story. It actually does feel more like a simulated person, but I find it too easy now.
 
I might be the only one going against the grains here, but does anyone think Ethereal is a counterpick for Piercing? Personally I didn't start playing Ethereal until the Beta patch, (Blood God Kotal main here) but then saw a lot of folks jump on the Piercing bandwagon . By no means am I great with her because I tend to play risky and borderline reckless, but Ethereal's stay away game from Piercings reach has been working for me.

For example, I stay out of range of piercings B12 then continue to build meter by fade away and in place at a safe distance. Occasionally throw sais, which in turn makes the piercing player throw low sais. At a certain distance, I can ex telekick on reaction for roughly 30% damage, then run in for meter building with F12B4 to prevent wake up attack or mix it up with F1 fade away, F12 fade away, F1 ex fade in place B22 fade away (unsafe i know), etc etc. Then when knocked down and read Piercing player attempts to do a B12 or F12B4 on me to prevent ex ball wake, I ex fade forward into combo of choice. I've noticed after hitting a 29-35% combo off an ex fade punish, most players in general will be more reluctant to try to pressure me when I get knocked down with meter. For that, I can't even begin to count how many times i've woken up with nothing more than a grab and caught players off guard.

For any of you who've been playing Ethereal since the September patch, give it a go with someone who's proficient with Piercing. I'm just curious what anyone else thinks of this...

Yeah been playing Ethereal ever since that ex fade got buffed and I love using it against Piercing. The fade is very versatile esp vs Mileena. Mileena's zoning and range gets rekt pretty hard in certain situations. Along with fading through f1 and b1 I also fade through her sais in the midscreen range and can whiff punish most of the time. As for mixups, I like to do F1,2,b4 into in place ex fade and whiff punish if they throw a button out, but if they don't I grab. F1,4 ex forward fade into grab, 2,1,u4, or 1,2 stagger is good too. I mostly like to use fade as a wake up tool though, especially if the piercing Mileena is really aggressive. Otherwise I'll try to use it for whiff punishing. A risky thing I like to do is if I'm in the midscreen range, I'll whiff a f1 or u3 then immediately ex fade if I see them go for a punish. Ethereal damage isn't piercing damage but it more than makes up for it in its versatility with the fades.

Also after ending a combo with b2,2 sai you can regular fade forward into a quick d1 check as soon as they wake up. However, your not safe if they wake up with ex roll, but if you feel they'll wake up then just replace b2,2 sai with b2,2 forward fade at the expense of damage. And you could do a d3 instead of d1 check so you could d3/ex roll option select their wake up, but I'm not sure if you'll have enough time if you do b2,2 sai -- regular forward fade.

The Ethereal's fade really challenges Piercing Mileena's space control and might be one of the best counters to her. Honestly though, I feel like Ethereal is Mileena's end game variation if the patch stay as is. Not to say Piercing and Ravenous are worse, just that Ethereal is really versatile. It's just that no one in the scene has come forward with an amazing Ethereal the way Foxy has spotlighted Piercing.
 
Does F1,4 ex fade forward jail into 12, 123, or 21 since they all start with highs? I ask because I've noticed a few strings that i've ex fade forward the opponent has poked me out of. It could be execution or I may not have enough plus frames to continue pressure with it especially following F12B4 doesn't allow continued pressure other than after holding the forward fade and waiting for a button masher.

On a side note, the Ethereal page had a few twitch links with Salt Face vs Sonicfox that appear to be dead links or just problems with Twitch. I'd rather see some actual game play footage to add more tricks and gimmicks than what I already use. Searching YouTube for Ethereal matches haven't been very informative or entertaining other than a bunch of BnBs and impractical situations.

Yeah I think F1,4 is just a few frames off from actually jailing with 1 or 1,2. 2,1 on the other hand might since 2 is 8 frames I believe.

Yeah I know I made a lot of mistakes I gotta chill on my rolls and I also have to confirm. Does anyone know how the proper way use the run cancel with her?
 
Pick my gameplay apart please. Good or bad, I'm all ears.

Better response to jumping, learn how to properly punish neutral jumps, crossovers, jump ins etc. Currently my problem too lol. Also try to be as optimal as you can with confirms. I saw that you missed the f1,2 confirm at 3:08 when it seemed like enough time to. Try to keep combos consistent and with a purpose. I saw you opted to cancel her b1,2 into tele-kick for oki, which is ok. However, going for 124 instead of 123 doesn't seem like a good idea in any situation. Also, occasionally doing tele-kick to fill the spot of zoning is really risky, but it seems free until people figure out how to properly punish the tele-kick ---> air sai block string lol.

Now, I liked how you took advantage of the hits off of d3 or b1 most of the time, mixing it up with strings and grabs. Also liked how you would whiff/stagger with f1 for a grab, recently realized this is pretty free on people without fast wake ups like quan or people that respect the f1. And of course, fundamentals seem good but try to work on confirming and blocks. You play Mileena on a good offense = defense basis which is ok until you're actually forced into a string.
