alex has an overhead, an air dive, can combo into his command grab. his version of laura's shoulder has a projectile hitbox and he can combo off them on counterhit. his kd's provide more advantage

alex also has a back charge move and down charge special gives him 3/4ths screen prescence with ex version being projectile invincible and +2 on block

also the same stomp can be a command grab instead of an overhead with the stun being pretty high on hit but he can also just cancel it for the fakeout

then you have his v-system giving him a parry and guar breaking moves

like so chill ok sun
I meant gameplay-wise... He seems to be like her in terms of relying on a knockdown for their mix-ups, both have slow command grabs and their main meaty is for a CC which both are - on block. None of them have good hit-confirms outside of counter-hit moves. He obviously has more ways around projectiles tho.

Well, buffing Bison would be difficult because his design is wack .
He has alot of issues and its kinda hard to pin down exactly what you'd have to buff just so he doesn't become too OP afterwards.

Some things hes missing aren't really unique to him: no 3 frame jab, no reversal...
but he also has the worst dedicated AA normal in the game and average jump normals on top of all that.
Plus, he has the worst walk speed in the game and one of the slowest dashes in the game at 22 frames
thats easy to react and punish because it flashes purple.

If I was personally going to buff him I would start by giving him a much faster walk speed, a viable AA outside super
and maybe some kinda corner escape option like Nash or an armored reversal so he doesn't just die when he gets knocked down in the corner
vs R. Mika.

And If all that still wasn't enough then I would give him a 3 frame jab and reduce the charge time on scissor kicks and make them push back more on block.
Interesting, thanks man for your insight. Yea not digging his walk speed either.

Normalize grab immunity.
The comboing into grab is exclusive to heavy flash chop, and the start up on it is pretty long so you won't just be throwing it out there. You can combo into heavy flash chop from s.hp, but only in v skill or as a raw counter hit. S.hp-h.flash chop-grab nets around 300 though iirc, so the payoff is there if you can pull it off.

I can't answer the other question, but my guess is yes it is like in 3S.
Oh if that's the case I wouldn't call that "a combo into command grab" since it's all one move. Thanks though. Was messing around with him and I couldn't see how to use both flash kick motion moves properly. And could see using the EX version of his sonic boom motion for the armor. But he did seem to have at least decent buttons and some damaging stuff if you everything falls in place. You know if any of his specials are plus on block?

So now I am losing to every Ryu player that does jump short, I cant seem to find an answer so far.
Jump SPD? I'm guessing you already tried st.LP and lariat? Are you hitting the lariat deep enough. It seems like you have to do it way later than in 4. Maybe more akin to SFxT IIRC.

Yes Lariat does have to be deep but nope, it seems to beat c.HP too.

AA...Punish

EDIT: Just fought my first Alex opponent, half screen (almost) range, wow.

what is the best button layout for ps4 controller? The default feels wonky, and everything I've tried feels wonky. And then i can't decide if I want to index and middle finger input or go more thumb-hungry like in mortal kombat. Any tips would be appreciated.

It honestly depends on what you feel comfortable with, I think there is an option to free map your buttons especially if you dont like the preset ones.

Resolution through knowledge and resolve.
I will give that a try, its not really the best option since light have hardly any hitstun but I am willing to try anything.
Try all his buttons. I used to play one of the best old school Gief players regularly and he said that Gief always has the best buttons. He's about getting in, but he used to have a button for every situation. I doubt that has changed. Its probably something weird like back jab or standing RK.

As JJvercetti mentioned, you can map all your controller buttons on the control game settings. The default "type A" settings has it most relevant to how the original arcade had them with the three punches from light to heavy on top and the three kicks the same bottom. I don't even use my middle finger, doubt many do honestly aside from doing the v-trigger and to just grip the controller. I use my thumb for light and medium punches and kicks, and my index for heavy punch and heavy kick. On my left hand I just use my index for the 2 punch and kick shortcut buttons.

As you can see, his hurtbox is actually above his hitbox (hurtbox = red, hitbox = green line box) I have been able to air to air it but I have to read it instead of react to it.
Hmmm backdash trip guard? lol Honestly, I don't know any answer for it man, wish I could help!

...I'm going to abuse this normal next time we play...
