No. I canceled my trip to FR because of this. From a spectators view it would be awesome and hype...from a players prospective? Thats 12 new matchups to learn, against dlc that was obviously not tested (look at cyber sub). Its going to be a clusterfuck of nonsense. The things people have found with these dlc...46% combos into restands, overhead low traps that would make quan chi jealous, ridiculous dot damage into restand...vortex that leaves you +29.. i dont want to pay to deal with that. So ill spectate .NRS will NEVER change.

NRS, Guilty Gear, and KI, the holy trinity
For this tournament: fuck no
For weekly tournament: fuck yes, weeklies would be a better place to test the tournament viability of brokeness of characters since with weeklies it tends to be about friendly competition anyways

I think so. Don't people goto tournys to have a good time? There's not like life changing money on the line here. Also, everyone has had equal amount of time with the DLC, learn them.

Yes it should be. I see it as a new game and the first tournament for the new game. If people chose to travel for a game that had been out for less than a month, I see the exact same situation here. The fear is real, lol.
Well with a new game, everyone doesn't know anything about any character. With DLC it's just a select few that are unknown. It's not completely different but it is different.

Some people don't like new characters being included because you really don't know what they're capable of. But that kind of goes the same for anyone using the character still has to be able to use that character against the cast. So either the new character ends up being so cheesy a player just gets carried to finals or they can't survive on limited character knowledge. How much do you fear the new characters?

Either be wary of letting the unknown into the game or don't. Set a precedent right now.
  1. Play MKX (no KP2 and no 3/1 patchc)
  2. Play MKXL lite (no KP2 but use 3/1 patch)
  3. Play MKXL (KP2 + 3/1 patch)
Then set a time limit on whatever you choose to not include. Don't see why this "issue" is harder than it should be. Not even like people are new to this anymore. NRS makes characters with a high potential of being busted/top tier. Either care or don't.

And just so I'm not giving a big rant on being indecisive about a simple topic without actually deciding anything. I'd vote to ban new characters for a month. I'd settle for 2 weeks the least. But to me that doesn't seem like enough time to do regular stuff and still grind out a video game. Character patches definitely get a 2 week ban though.

Like I get why some don't want it allowed, it makes sense, 100%. But to me, it feels like Final Round would be seen as more of a "pass" if KP2 isn't allowed opposed to if it is allowed. It's not a great situation either way. "FR didn't even have KP2 characters, it was meaningless", "FR had KP2 characters after like 2 weeks of release, it was meaningless".

Have the organizers said anything about which way they're leaning? That would be good information for those that might be on the fence about attending.

The top 8 of FR will have the same names as most the other top 8s.

Broken or not, i bet people could predict the top 8 its player > characters

As someone who has done testing for a video game, I can definitely guarantee that they were tested.

In this community, the double spell thing that @PND_Ketchup found is the best example that I can give. Not everything will be found by NRS and their testers. It takes days, weeks, and sometimes months(in the case of the double spell), to fine dirt in games, after it's been released and everyone has it, so expecting just the developers and whoever they get to test it, to find everything, is unrealistic.

If we got them in an untested state, they would be horrible lol. I mean how can you say that they weren't tested, when we all know that Sektor was heavily normalized?

They released a bunch of characters at once. Imo they aren't balanced too badly, all things considered. Now that everyone has them, i'm sure they will be balanced accordingly in the following months. It just sucks that FR might be plagued by a few of them potentially being way too strong.

I'm not going to Final Round so I didn't vote and won't comment on the topic of the thread. Good luck at the event, everyone. :p

It's a vicious cycle.

I want to change my choice. I think they should be allowed. You never know, we might get surprised.

If you argue against DLC on the grounds that is is unfair for competitors, couldn't the same be said for post-patch Ferra Torr and competitors that weren't lucky enough to get the beta? That is essentially a new character as well, not to mention all of the other changes to the existing characters. Letting it rock in tournament is also essential for determining with certainty whether something is broken and needs to be fixed.

All of XL is different. Old characters got tons of tweaks too, everything is new and anything can be broken.

Let it all rock or let none of it and just play prepatch mkx. Or play all of XL

I hope we see some Jason XL. #Kreygasm

I'd love it if more Jason players came out of the woodwork due to his changes and went to tournaments more.

I would like to ask you fellow forum goers if you ever get a feeling of deja vu when TYM attempts to talk about meaningful character balance so early in the launch cycle. For myself, this feeling struck me upon perusing the forums these past two days.

Apparently a well respected hotshot decided to post some tech on a brand new ice-based Lin-Kuei character. His main gimmick is that he has very strong trap based setplay in the corner that is very ambiguous for his opponent. For the most part, after a "hardknockdown" he can deploy an ice based trap for mixups or armor breaking purposes.

Naturally, such a strong and unique playstyle will frighten players, and likewise there was much screaming for nerfs. These nerfs are justified because of 12 total minutes of lab footage not based on any real matchup experience or tournament setting. As a matter of fact, 90% of the people asking for nerfs haven't actually fully labbed the setups.

What does this remind you of, TYM?

Discuss.

Get over here!
Not voting since I am not going to final round but if I were I would vote no. Too much unknown and potential for stupid potentially game-breaking stuff so not worth it. Next tournament after FR maybe give it a go assuming nothing ban worthy (block infinites, 100% combos-looking at you cyrax, etc) has been found

ferreal, jason got some solid buffs as did other underrepresented members of the cast. And im also down with not having to watch more of the same old bat shenanigans with QC and the same old silly pressure with Tanya. XL has been tweaked and will be a better viewing experience.

Well, that's the whole cause for concern, y'know? What if it's not a better viewing experience? What if whatever tech they have found for certain characters works so well that it's all that you see? Not exactly better viewing to me. This is all speculation, of course. As I've said previously, I'm hoping to be surprised. I'd love to see a wide variety of characters in Top 16 and Top 8.

Should they? No. Do I want them too? Yes.

CSZ is hilariously broken. I literally don't know what the fuck they were thinking shipping the game with him like that.
I'm trying to remember what this current witch hunt reminds me of. I feel like another trap based character named Sub-Zero came out and people were screaming just as loud. Oh no, I'm in the corner and I have to guess: nerf!

Lol the overreaction is hilarious. Im willing to bet that 100$ that a dlc wont win the tourney un less Sonic fox uses one. Theyre not nearly as ridiculous as most of you make them seem.
Finally, some logic in a forum full of cry babies.

Id argue that it will be a better viewing experience even if new broken stuff is found. weve all seen the quan and tanya and other top tier tactics over and over and over. new broken stuff, even if more broken, is still new and exciting. and with 13 varitions to choose from plus all the changes to the previous characters the potential for new stuff is pretty high, much higher than the introduction of a single OP character alongside minimal balance changes.

if top 8 is 8 broken CZS doing shrug mix ups to each other then ill stand corrected, but with so much new being introduced it is highly unlikely that only one broken strategy will be sound, multiple broken strategies can emerge and the variety will def still be there.
