General/Other - Kung Lao Kung Lao General Discussion

Spammer. Crouch walk hater.
You have to be on point to full combo punish and you have to have a good character( ex. Cassie's 242 can punish it but you really must reversal it). For all other cases, I think throw is guaranteed.

man, Kung Lao's normals and Strings pretty much stay the same throughout all of his variations, their properties stay the same too. The only thing that changes really are his special moves.

i wish he'd get different strings in his other variations x-x

how to i punish his F4? i played a really spammy player and when ever he picked kung lao he would do this move over and over and i would be free to it :(
How to punish Kung Lao's F4? It's quite negative on block... any somewhat fast advancing normal would do the trick. If you couldn't punish it, it's probably the lag. I get blown up almost every time I use it.

Since we were talking about it in the other thread, one way to use F23 safely during pressure is off of a ex low hat set-up. If you do ex low hat, and follow it with a run, you can time it so that the ex hat connects exactly between the first and second hit of f23 (trust me, it isn't as complicated as it sounds). So if your opponent tries to backdash, the ex low hat will hit (and the second hit of the string), and if he tries to armor, the combination of ex hat and the second hit of the string will beat his armor. Best part about is, since the low hat connects between hits, Kung Lao gets his hat back, which means you can cancel the string into another low hat.

Smack it up, flip it and rub it down.
Does anybody have any match footage? I'm not sure how I should be playing him and I think see other players would help me out. Thanks!

There's not a lot of footage, at least good footage anyway.

PL, Jwong and Clark L have some good stuff, but 99% of vids out are just shitty combo vids.

I'm really starting to feel like there's too many combo videos and not enough strategy.

Does anyone other than a handful of people like Clark, etc actually play Kung Lao?

This is my main issue as of now... Sure, I can do the combos and try new ones if I practice, but strategy wise I get blown up because I don't pressure correctly.

Finishing always with low hat is super risky, so I'm wondering what else there is. I'll keep on working in the lab...

Clark L.

F1 ftw.

End pressure in tele. (Punishable too, but catch them off guard!) There's a bunch of shit tbh. Lao is super awesome.

What kind of pressure can Kung Lao put when he has no meter?(no ex low hat) also what are you guys punishing unsafe moves with other than ex spin?

I'll make a thread soon discussing my week 2 strategies/set-ups/gimmicks. This won't be a "guide" by any means since I don't believe any of this stuff has been tested enough, especially in competition against guys who know what they're doing, to determine how good it is, but it's just a thread for everyone to discuss how they're playing Kung Lao.

I don't want options that can easily get me blown up by people that know how to play. I'm just wondering if there's options that leave you in control of the game without taking a lot of risk...
