Agreed. I'm starting out in Cutthroat. I just fear I'll get too used to the overhead. Haven't had much time yet though. Will be spending time on cyber today. Any suggestions before I start.
Yea the overhead, strings, and damage buff are amazing. It definitely covers the rest of the MU's.

I've spent the most time on Cybernetics. I would recommend first and foremost worship knives. They are your lord and master. Chuck them whenever you can as much as you can. Dominate against non teleport characters with them. Time them well against teleporters and punish their bad reads. Get down the spacing on when you can trap opponents with EX Knives on block. Explore these knives, as they are some of the most powerful projectile tools in the game if used correctly.

Also, get that spacing down to a science. Kano controls the screen in Cybernetics. Ball and upball destroy bad reactions to knives. Learn when to use them since they are highly punishable. Kano's backdash is one of the best in the game. Use it well, use it a lot. In some MU's if you aren't dominating the spacing think of why/how they pressured you and what you can do to prevent it. Kano has a ton of options in this variation to the point that I don't think he even needs an overhead.

Last but not least, the grounded eye laser is your best friend. It extends combos, but it does so, so much more. Check out your mixup opportunities after landing this in a combo. You'll end up conditioning your opponent to block only. Once that happens you can space yourself, run in for a quick grab, etc. On wake up if you need an armor don't wake up with EX Ball, wake up with EX Ground laser. It's much safer, has armor, and leaves them stunned.

You have to play very smart and patient in this variation, but when you do, it will frustrate opponents like few characters variations can.

Cut throat has a 50/50 mix up after a d3 hits. The opponent needs to armor, backwash or block to not eat 30-40 damage depending on if you are buffed and your screen position.

For mid screen meter less damage I like using f+212, 4, upball for 24% or at least until I can nail down the stricter timing of f+212,f+212,f+4, straight ball for 29%.

Just got F4's max range down.
From starting position it's a single step back (like, the tiniest tap back on your d-pad.) It'll probably be different depending who you're facing though.

If you're not directly on them and you land a D3, do you take a slight step forward before the 50/50? That's what I've been doing. Feels like the overhead won't always hit unless you slightly step forward first.

If I hit d3 at max range I have whiffed with b1, so you do need to step up.

Question to the fellow Commando's. How do you envisage yourself using his counters? Do you guys think counter fishing might be a viable strategy (considering how offensive heavy MKX is relative to MK9)
It's good using his counters during the your turn, my turn neutral. A good example of using this is after a f4, you're -4 on block after but depending on how slow the other person's buttons are you can get a high or low parry out and still catch them pressing buttons. MBing your parries also makes them come out in 1 frame so you can do f+4, mash your ex parry and it'll still do good shit.

I need your help with COMMANDO KANO:
A)PARRY
-Whats the difference between normal and enhanced version? I mean, only frames and damage?
-I know it cant parry proyectiles and jump ins, but... can parry specials? only "body moves" ones? or we have to check it one by one?
B)COMMAND GRAB
-Its unblockable?
-has armor when enhanced?
C)Whats your BnB?

Thanks a lot :)
1, normal parries come out in 3 frames, ex comes out in 1, ex lets you mind game people with f4 and whatever else is supposedly negative on block for you.

2, You can parry special moves and if the person tries to throw you. (I.E you can parry Raiden's superman move.)

3, Unblockable yes

4, Armor yes

5, He has really bad combos in this variation but here's my main 2 in the corner.

njp, jf4, 1, 11, 11, 112~Ribstrike (30%)
b312, 1, 11, 112~ribstrike

So is there any benefits to using normal blade slice in cut throat? I can't test right now but I'm thinking it could be useful to set up a safe jump or pressure on hit into a 50/50 or whatever.

Anyone watch me at the break tournament last night? I beat two Quan Chis but I had trouble with Riyo's zone heavy kitana even after I switched to cybernetic. Trading projectiles didn't work well in my favor and I couldn't really get in with kano ball. I lost to Dartharma's Erron Black but that wasn't matchup specific, it was just hard to block all those overhead and low mixups.

Erron Black is going to be a problem. His design is built so strong (and stupid) that he looks like he'd survive any nerfs easy.

Are you using Commando more than the others?

I have read a little here, but i am having a hard time grasping Cybernetics. What exactly do you use his lasers for? They seem to have no range at all. Are his only fast projectiles the knives? I see that you can end combos in two different ways, one a launcher if mb'd and one a standing reset with laser. How should you implement these in combos? I don't really see any meterless launching strings, so how do you get started with this variation?

Lasers are combo extenders. Do a string into a laser for a stun then do more stuff usually a mb'ed grenade string for a launch and then do more stuff.

For example a meter less combo is

112, db+1, b+23 1+3 for 26% that leaves the opponent standing. You can change the 1+3 into 2+4 and meter burn it for more after the launch.

Ground laser extend his combos, air laser isn't that good, maybe for unclashable? You really want to stay in his b2 range or like full range to chuck knives. Making the opponent wiff and punishing jump ins with up ball or uppercuts will help so they stay grounded and let you do some combos. At the start of a match you can get a b2 off and just start with pressure. Although he isn't plus hes safe. He has a tough time opening ppl up in this variation. But hes really good at annoying ppl.

Hey all, played a bit of injustice and sf4 but mainly a kof player looking to get into this. Been messing with commando but thinking of trying some cybernetic too. Just wondering if the playstyle of it can lend itself to frametraps very well. Sorry of this question seems super nooby lol.

The more I play, the more I feel like cybernetic is my style.

B2 is a great long reaching normal and b23 combos into laser for great footsies and whiff punishing. The knives are freaking amazing and the balls are all very useful to control space and mobility.

Cybernetic does lack the come back factor with cut throar huge damage and 50/50's, but it's much harder to get in on cybernetic, so it might bakance out.

That's how I feel, and I get super frustrated having to open people up when I don't have the lead haha. But couple good reads he can frustrate you just as much.

I'm relieved people are finding all variations to be their style. I was worried that each character have THAT variation that's way better than the others.
I haven't even touched Cybernetic tbh. I'm feeling Cutthroat and Commando to be much more my jam.

You get the idea. Everyone should read this post very carefully. Cybernetic is currently Kano's best variation.

I would just like to stress playing footsies with b+2,3 and d+4. b+2,3 has tremendous range. Treat it like Sinestro's b+1,3 in Injustice. b+2 is safe on block. As is b+2,3. But b+2,3,1+3 and b+2,3,2+4 are not. You can do b+2,3 xx EX knife toss to gain advantage and continue pressure. EX knife juggles too. Otherwise hit confirm b+2,3 into the the laser and perform a combo.

d+4 is an amazing low poke. 7 frames of start. +18 on hit. The in game frame data claims d+4 is -6 on block, which appears to be false from my testing.

no tag me in derp posts plz thx
On behalf of the Kano community, please excuse the fool's insolence. It will never happen again. Just keep our knives in Cybernetic the way they are.

Can't believe I forgot to list the footsies game. Couldn't agree more. His B2 and B23 are incredible footsie tools, and his B1, D3, and D4 are a problem too. The 7f jab is just icing on the cake. If he hits anything from close to mid range you're in full control of what happens next. I feel like I'm playing chess with extra pieces on my board with Cybernetics.

What I think everyone should remember is that Cybernetics isn't about the "flashy 45% combos" you're seeing in other characters combo threads. Kano has to be played very smart to say the least. Cybernetics is about zoning, footsies, punishing, patience, and space control, with great pressure to go along with it.
