Match-up Discussion Sinestro Matchup Discussion

Yea trying to work on the sinestro matchup. I have people trying to counter pick me with him, but it doesn't work. Yet I am not ignorant enough to believe that a sinestro main doesn't have enough understanding of the matchup to make it difficult. I main g.l, and basically wanted to run a few matches on psn whenever a good sinestro main gets the chance so that I get blown up now, rather than later down the road. Myztery_sorrow I am a g.l main with little knowledge of sinestro's close range tools. Assistance is greatly appreciated.

OK will do it when I get back, thanks in advance. Sorry if you did this a while ago, college + work combination equals few hours for gaming. I feel my g.l is good, I just need to learn more about other characters, and the sinestro very hard computer does not do the character any justice lol.

Scorpion update:

Alright I have been really focusing on this MU lately. Even with the nerfs, Scorpion is still a bitch to fight and I think the MU is 4-6 at minimum. You basically have to play a midrange and up close game because he is less able to react to fireballs with teleport. Full screen is a BAD place to be. In order to blow up teleports, you can either air axe on anticipation or NJP. The only problem with this tactic is that if scorpion does the non-MB teleport in the air, you are going to get hit because he appears at a higher angle. The only way to beat this besides crouching or blocking is with Jump back punch 1 into 1,1 shackles. Sinestro cannot punish the MB teleport on block so your best option is to use standing 3 by itself or into trait charge to bait teleports and jumps. This MU comes down to a lot of jumping and trait charge baits, as well as using fireballs at a range where he can't react to them.

That sounds about right but i think BA is prbly 4-6. Sinestro does have tools to control him but the risk-reward is in his favor. I also think zataana is a potentially bad mu.

Yea I've played probably the most WW out there

Flash I would say 4-6 but cowboy is better and says 5-5 and I respect his opinion

Batgirl is 5-5. Although she does have counterzoning tools they can all be baited and punished and unlike MMH, her teleport is not safe on block.

WW is 5-5 because she can't stop trait charge without taking a risk. Her shield stance is annoying because of the reduced chip, but she isn't as mobile so it makes it easier to control her. It's pretty much whoever gets the life lead first.

The thing about blocking FB is that if she is waiting for it, she isn't moving. This allows you to charge trait or catch her moving in with your F2D13. As for Flash's trait you just have to push block, which will get rid of it instantly. Jump axe is also pretty good against him because it will catch his normals when he is trying to get in.

mmh... i do not agree, there are ways to punish overhead tele mid/full screen, block overhead to martian grab w/d1 shack. stand about half screen and make him make the decisions. i am supposed to play reo in a long set soon so i will get back to u on this. i beat arturo in top 16 who used mmh and is one of the better ones

pig i think u need to play kings raven. i would consider her at advantage bc u literally have NO options unless u are full screen. when she is traited up and spamming grab thing... u can only interrupt with shacks at that is a risk bc its punished on block if he reads it. basically any character that can punish projectiles are really hard

also flash, no offense to zyphox but he does not play flash correctly. i beat him 6- 0 at summer jam and it was bad. MasterD beat me offline 45-22 with flash. again, outside of f2d13 or b1 range flash can literally punish everything i do. even jump back 1/2 or jump back axe... masterd will just with punish on trip guard for 40+ percent and have me in the corner. f22 to sonic pund far crosses up in the corner and he is +4/5 so u then eat the overhead or low. u can back das after f22 (backdash) sonic pound and make the cross up whiff and then your even. if he does close or medium then u get hit. lol zyphox did not shake ONE FRICKEN TIME in our matches and masterD shackes everything.

for some reason i have trouble with really good grundys. i know b13 (done very late) is airborn on the first 5-10 framers, stand 3 axe beats WC unless he cancels and d2's. the only mix ups u are doing to grundy are when he is in hit stun fromj2 bc his d2 is amazing. i think its 5/5 but i just don't have the exposure to him yet. u can punish grundys d 2 but you have to be in d1 or stand 1 range

cowboy seems to have a good grip on the BA matchup, i would like to see him play rico

pig are u wondering for an alt? i will likely grind out the bad matchups for a year or so before considering alts. im stubborn. in the beginning of AE sim had some bad matchups and i was able to overcome them in the long run (minus a few)

one thing u have going for u if you choose to be stubborn is that players who use perceived bad matchup characters will have limited expose to sinestro in this case. character familiarity is huge in high level play. it almost got me past khaotix. thing about frost players though... i can never tell if they are actually good bc frost is so retarded and the player needs to have NO understanding of footsies

too early to talk about zatanna... imo though she has some really good tools and is really fun to play even though thing fricken destroyed my this week when i was using her. up close she struggles but thats not how she is meant to be player i think... until u land the hit that is.

I have played Zyphox recently and he has started to do the things that you mention, such as punishing a whiffed axe. Obviously I have not had the chance to play Master D, but if he is simply waiting for you to do something then you can charge the trait and bait his movements.
 
also if you ever have 50% life lead on aqua u should be doing d/b and checking with fear after a from the deep. he literally has to advance and try to get in. there are a few matches that i call the sinestro mirror/p2w WoundCowboy special. get a lead and literally just fear over and over again. DS, AQ, Lex, Sinestro mirror

what if he is standing just outside of sweep range? i like your enthusiasm man but just be warned about this match in the hands of a top player... not someone who just says they are

Then you both have to make a read. He can: play patiently and stay still or walk back, headbutt, forward dash, jump, or come in with his F2 or B2. Sweep range is also right around the point that F2D1 reaches, and if he tries to come in with anything except MB headbutt then you can MBB3. I'm not saying the MU is easy by any means but I think 6.5-3.5 is an exaggeration.
 
he can whiff f2d1 or f2d13 lol im not being difficult im just playing devils advocate. i stand by my 6.5-3.5 i agree with you though... gotta have a good read. all im saying is that there is a large range that, literally, everything you do can be whiff punished
