The two armor thing for the characters overall seems to be a more consistent way to reduce corner pressure, with Ice Klone being the most prominent example.

Bo Rai Cho main buff here is his improved mobility, and the fact that armored launchers were toned down big time, which will make the gaps less of a problem. I might be wrong on this one, but i think Bo will rise through the ranks(at least one of his variations).

Why risk armor/combo breaking yourself for this very obtuse mechanic so you can get around projectiles when you can just db1 everything in the safer variations. I mean i appreciate the mobility and armor buffs but hangover is still pretty busted, and its a shame because DM bo is one of the most fun characters I've ever played in a fighting game.

the generalized rebalancing of the rest of the cast puts bo alot higher in the ranks than he was, but his major problems aren't fixed. Those problems being few good mids, big gaps in his strings, and hangover. They really need to work on the 341 string, you can straight up be poked out of that string before the 1, free.

I think it wouldn't be unreasonable to increase the time before the hangover kicks in, or if the hangover only happened at lvl 3.

i wanted hangover to be lvl 3 only. To me that is the simplest and easiest way to account for it. It also makes sense thematically because you generally only get hangovers from drinking too much [rice wine] not from just drinking at all. If this was the only thing they did, I would be happy and satisfied.

But...
since we are on the subject, I also want lvl3 puke to be hangover immune, drink to be hangover immune, and drink should be cancellable into meditation (preferrably by holding down like b4). Even with all of these buffs i feel like DM wouldn't even be op, he would still struggle, but he would be tournament viable, as it stands hangover will prevent him from winning a set in top 8 at any major.

I love the drinking mechanic, its great. Its fun to use, its swaggy, it looks cool, its thematic to the character, its one of the better gimmics in the game.

It's hangover that I have a problem with. If this kind of thing were applied to an opponent it would be one of the most broken things in the game, but because its a self debuff its ok. Its tradeoff is several times more detrimental to bo than any other tradeoff gimmic in the game. As far as I know the only detrimental self buffs(not simply punishable) are infinite armor for jason, blood sacrifice for kotal, self cut for alien, and self buff for kano. In all of those examples the tradeoffs are acceptable, and only one is anywhere near as dangerous as hangover. blood sacrifice can be made safe, so you are only going to lose the 10% you signed up for, self cut for alien is only like 3% health for like 10-15% dot well worth it, kanos self buff is super fast, armored, deals 5% damage over time to him and makes his damage stupid good.

Jasons killing machine buff is the only one comparable to hangover as they essentially have the same downside. Killing machine gives infinite armor for 10seconds in exchange for no jumps, and an unblockable self interrupt short nap. This is loads better than hangover in all but one area, there are more ways to get out of hangover, drink again, be in hitstun, be in the air, or be on the ground. I mean hell lvl3 puke isn't even that much better than regular puke.

i could just be salty though.

i thinkb4d got nerfed, b4d costs stamina now, where it only used to cost stamina if you rolled out of it. Unless I am mistaken which is entirely possible.

it woulda been nice if df2 destroyed projectiles like the other two variations got, it should destroy projectiles at lvl 3 at the least.

Forgot about your other post. I mean yea man you aren't the only one to share that opinion, but thinking of drinking primarily as as setplay tool that grants a low launcher has done wonders for me. I think people kind of underrate the sheer value of that with Bo's tool set. He's definitely a struggle sometimes, but I really like the mechanic as is. I was hoping for a touch up of some of his stuff though like better frames on DF1 but oh well. One of my fears though is that his stuff won't be too great at the higher level where people really know the MU, but I've yet to encounter someone who shuts it down that bad. And nah b4 sexy stance doesn't cost extra stamina, I would rage about it though lol.

Even out of* the corner where b12 isn't guaranteed it leaves you at a good distance. It's also a good mid for getting people to stop poking, an anti air, a good "stop running" alternative to fart, etc. I love it, I think it's one of the best tools DM has.

And I worship at the altar that is b4~sexystance. It jails into 3 launch, you can be cheeky with armor breaks and checking them and god damn, rolling around is so much fun.

Midscreen puke resets is what i've been preaching. Your pretty much garanteed a free ji 2.
And ive been low profiling foward advancing strings with b4 on rection. You just have to space it out.
Also good luck db and bart mains againts the pyro and kitana match up

I've been meaning to mention that the run buff has made some of drunken masters inconsistsnt midscreen bnbs much easier to do. dd3, 2, run, 12 fart is much much more consistent, so now using dd3 2 off certain strings is a much more viable option.

ur right. The main reason I get so bothered is because of the way hangover works, DM is the only non tournament viable variation. I'm mostly talking about high level stuff tho, you get into a top8 and you can just get outpoked to death.

I hate being in the corner. If your opponent is pummeling you and you don't have a single EX meter, you're f***ed. This is what I truly hate about drunken Bo, and it's worse if you're already drunk, risking hangover. Get ready for major punish. only way out is EX cartwheel or EX bump and fart for armor. If opponent blocks, you might increase the gap a bit.

Honestly the mobility buffs hasn't done shit for drunken Bo. I agree that hangover should be for 3rd drunk buff. Hell I'd even agree for 2nd buff. 1st buff really limits your abilities, and the only good thing is the flying sumo head butt.

You have to keep in mind when your buff is about to run out and jump around until wears off, cross your fingers that it doesn't happen when you're on the ground.

Something needs to be done with Drunken, I know for a fact that this variant has potential. It just needs that one particular buff to give him an edge.

And you get his best unique tool in sexy stance from drink 1. You gain a ton of 50/50s, hit confirms and gimmicks from it.

Can't you also wakeup meditate roll while you're drunk and whiff punish meaties? I have only recently started playing this technical monster but that sounds pretty reasonable as a wakeup.

You'll get caught if it's a good meaty, you aren't invincible while shifting into the stance. You can however EX it to do Zen which is invincible. You can also just do a Zen wakeup sexy stance launcher but it can take too long with the puke, which is often an issue when you are in this situation. I tend to delay wakeup more to just avoid the puke entirely. Typically those are some of the worst puke situations, the worst timing can have your meter used and no wakeup spcial. But yes, it does give him another viable option that's probably underrated as a getaway tool.

No after playing him for a long time I just have an alarm of sorts in my head that lets me know when I'm about to puke. It has become kind of a natural instinct.

I don't really know tbh I have been playing him since release almost. I'm sure it'll come to you eventually but till then counting down isn't a terrible idea. Though I think it knowing the exact time would be pretty stressful.

So quick question, what are the one bar combos Drunken Master has for midscreen and corner cause I don't recall ever using them or seeing them.

edit: figured out midscreen, string into ex fart and go from there, still wondering about the corner though.

He Doesn't really use a bar unless you're hitconfiming into ex fart.

Using a bar doesnt increase your damage much. Save it for OTG stomp, ex fart setups and armour.

Unless there is some crazyness i missed.

midscreen i end in flips and ex do ex stomp then drink, or end in bf4 ex and drink

Yea bud, it has to come instinctively. Otherwise counting and keeping up with the match throws off your game.
