Traits define Injustice, some of them were like that but some were not. For instance Bane being able to pump up venom in the middle of a command grab or after he does super but before he grabs you, Zod smackig you with trait while you are being hit by EX lasers, Sinestro or batman being able to trait shot/bat you out of the air while holding back to block, green lantern being able to cancel into trait activation from a string and then cancel trait activation into lanterns might, flash could also cancel specials into trait activation. Traits are way more unique than just some special move and they define the uniqueness of the game and creativity behind some of the characters designs.

Now, some characters like Joker or Shazam and what not could definitely use a redisgn of their traits since it didnt compliment their design much but thats fine considering it was their first try implementing them
Zod, Sinestro and Batman's trait were not that different to sonya's drone, subzero's ice Klone, predators net and discs, reptiles ex forceball and Takeda's ex-kunai and light-sabre.

Wonder Woman and nightwing had unique traits but WoWo's trait was utter garbage that barely anyone used.

One more suggestion.

In addition to variations giving you access to few special moves they can make the enhanced version of universal special moves different for each variation to further differentiate between variations.
For example.

Batman's batarang is universal move but there is no enhanced universal batarang.

Variation 1
Enhanced batarang is explosive batarang that pops up opponent.

Variation 2
Enhanced batarang is sonic batarang that summons bats to deal damage over time.

Variation 3
Enhanced batarang is shock batarang that stuns opponent setting him/her for free hit.

Zod, Sinestro and Batman's trait were not that different to sonya's drone, subzero's ice Klone, predators net and discs, reptiles ex forceball and Takeda's ex-kunai and light-sabre.

Wonder Woman and nightwing had unique traits but WoWo's trait was utter garbage that barely anyone used.
Her trait was pretty good in the corner and took less chip damage, but lacked any kind of wakeup whatsoever.

In injustice the charcter types were as defined as they ever were. Bane grundy lobo werer fun grapplers, batgirl batman and the flash were fun rush down and we all know the zoners. Make the grapplers actual grapplers.

If Black canary makes the cut, this is how she should be.

Universal moves.
She is known for her Canary cry so it is fitting that her universals revolve around her canary power.

Canary cry that disorients opponent.
Canary cry that destroys projectiles.
Canary cry that knocks opponent away.
Anti Air canary cry.
Low canary cry.

Variation 1.
Canary uses her martial arts skills, particularly boxing and kick boxing to rushdown her opponent.

Variation 2.
In this variation canary gains command grab moves which enhance her grappling and wrestling game.

Variation 3.
In this variation canary uses batons for extra range and gains various moves utilizing batons.

thats not Netherrealms Mokap sudio tho we've seen theirs plus they killed her on Arrow. she was going to be in Injustice 1 tho
This might be their hidden room where they try new sh*t. She was on flash as earth 2 siren and she is going to be in green arrow and birds of prey books.

Due to variations there are 100 different characters in MKX which means you have to learn 99 matchups instead of 32.
Who cares, that doesn't make me want variations in injustice. I already was completely over the idea as a failed trial.

Keep each property separate with their own wacky things. If i wanted a variation based NRS fighter I could just play MKX

I wish you people wouldn't blow your loads for every game release. We keep showing NRS that we will buy their games over and over, sometimes multiple copies of one game and for what? Ridiculous guessing games and over powered DLC? Let's not forget the constant patching.

Do any of you even remember some of the bullshit from IGAU? Ambiguous cross ups that were nothing more than game bugs (hi Flash players) leading to you losing your whole first health bar. What fun that is! I'm really looking forward to figuring out how to block double 50/50s. "Is he going low or overhead, and should I block forward or backwards?!?!?"

At the very least, can we plz not preorder this shit?

Edit: You know they're going to release some bullshit mobile app too. Can we please not be ok with that?

IGAU was fun. Don't hold salt because you blew.
Hahaha. I didnt blow, and I agree that IGAU was a lot of fun. I logged a ton of hours. That doesn't mean that the game should be built to allow ambiguous cross ups (that aren't jump ins). I love these games and I want to keep loving them, but bullshit shouldn't be rewarded.

That also means NRS has to focus on balancing 100 variations and we all know their track record with that. Major things get ignored, unnecessary changes are made, low-tiers are nerfed for whatever reason, etc.

I'd rather them have a much smaller pool of things to worry about for the sake of balance.

The games were night and day, they shared almost no base mechanics with each other besides strings/specials combo system. The game would not be made "inferior" or have less content because of no variations, variations were nothing more than a marketing gimmick NRS used for MKX only, it will not be in every NRS game from here on out. Variations will be replaced by extra base characters or other forms of content, that is how resource allocation works
