I put just shy of 100 games into Hawkgirl yesterday and I think I nailed what the problem is with her. All her upclose offense mostly starts with standing 1, but standing 1 hits high, has terribly short range, and I think might be the slowest 1 in the game (even Grundy's is one frame faster at 12 vs Hawkgirls 13).

Basically anything that starts with 1 will get stuffed by just about any other character in the game. Her only other option up close is f1 and the only way to get anything off that is to immediately wing evade 2, but depending on your distance you will totally whiff it.

I agree, but her D1 being 6 frames is amazing. If you can hit confirm D1, you can perform nearly any of her 12 to 16 frame mid starters, I believe. it's rather difficult to get the hang of online though.
 
I was under the impression it's impossible to perform links in this game? eg, a D1 is a normal and not a juggle therefore it is impossible to perform another normal attack as part of a combo.

Edit: Looks like you meant that you have frame advantage, so nvm.
 
Am I the only person who has problems pulling off combos online. I can do them offline easily but a lot of the time I can never finish them off properly online. The game doesn't look like its lagging but some combos just don't come. Yesterday I took on a grundy with my bane and I was about to end a combo with his special but it came out when grundy hit the floor. Now I know I pressed the buttons and I've done it so many times. Hawkgirls timing are tough as well.

123...being her best "launcher" is a bitch to connect with anything after, online. Instead of doing 123, B3...I've been doing 123, F3...it's still hard but the timing is LESS strict than that god awful B3. If she were to get any "buffs", I hope it's connecting B3 easier...it's damn near impossible for me.

Yes. D1 is HawkGirls best friend. I have interrupted so many offensive strings with this...not to mention you can mash D1 and then go into flight and stomp...it's simply amazing.

I can do forward 3 but b3 is impossible for me as well. Have you ever tried that stomp kick when ever the enemy is down. Pretty good for pressure

It's a zoning war. However, she can fly above his vertical/diagonal laser...it's a good MU.

I can do forward 3 but b3 is impossible for me as well. Have you ever tried that stomp kick when ever the enemy is down. Pretty good for pressure
Have you checked out my match videos in the "HawkGirl Battle Footage" thread...I'm constantly stomping. Instant air stomp's are my favorite form of rush down with her, atm.

You'll have to learn how to rushdown as Superman, don't try to zone hawkgirl, you'll waste time and health, seriously. She can just fly above EVERY laser and throw maces at you. Go check out the matches I posted in the battle gameplay, you'll see me fight superman at a tourney, he had no idea on how to beat her zoning.

Her best launcher is b1, her best combo starter are we2 midscreen and f13 in the corner.

32 and f11 are her longest ranged normals I think, so if you're lacking range, use those, ESPECIALLY with how much histun/blockstun those moves do, it's insane. I've just found unescapable interactable setups thanks to those two strings.
 
D1 is probably one of her BEST moves that thing is crazy fast. Her evade-2 is so good. Getting in on the opponent is incredibly easy given all her options.

Like Boonendorf said, learn to get in patiently. Understanding her flight options goes a long way. Up close the best thing Hawkgirl has is that Superman can't back up and make her d1 whiff during f23 xx breath pressure like he can with most characters and it beats his d1 in that situation due to its range, but f23 still really strong and if they fuck around in that range too much... Also learn to reaction punish her sweep and divekick with f23, once you can do that Hawkgirl has to either take big risks to mix you up or get b2 to connect, which is easier said then done given that moves range and startup. If she flight cancels her normals, that should be free f23 float combo lol. It's a good idea to go into training mode to understand her flight and wing evade options as a whole so you know how to blow them up, too. But yeah, basically work your way in patiently and make good reads or reactions to her escape options or offense. Playing shitty zoning war of attrition with her is going to take longer and require far more reads on your part then going in and pushing her shit in with a character that has extremely strong and threatening fundamental pressure.

b3 has shit range, so you often have to be literally right next to the opponent after 123 for it to connect. Right now f3 is way more reliable, and it's like 3-4% damage difference outside of transitions so it's w/e.

Also just so people are aware, I'm pretty sure Hawkgirl's f1 and d1 are 7 frames, not 6 (They were punishing -7 stuff reliably, -6 not at all) unless they changed it with an update or something lol.

Oh, and just to make this clear (Not to anybody in particular, but I'm noticing some trends in my long posts lol), when I say Hawkgirl has shit approach I mean against characters that already counter her air options and zoning well with their own and take advantage of her slow-ass floaty jump. If it's Harley Quinn or somesuch then idgaf, just gonna do what I want to lol.

Have you compared it to other 6 frame attack punishes? (not at a console so can't check myself yet) .

I will man. Never realised this but shes quite good at zoning. Before, I would enter a fight expecting to do combos but when you actually learn how to play her, shes pretty good. Its funny because I can do all the combos with wonder woman and I still got beat by a lantern player but when I picked up hawkgirl I did well.

I've managed to finally include b22 and b23 in what I use in a match, that's a great step forward to me. Onward to implementing 22, 32, f11 and f13!

Oh and video of me winning a lot coming in about one hour.

Yeah...I'm just now learning to implement her combos in a match. I've been beating people with mixups, zoning, and just her specials in general. She's seriously a threat. I'm calling it now...the community will wise up and start using her...she covers ALL my bad MU's for Catwoman.

Ugh...God her B3 really annoys me. Right now I'm practicing her 3~Mace Throw (MB) upshoulder, B3...it's so hard for me to land. F3 is okay...but I really wish her B3 linked more smoothly...
