It seems that Kronika can create her own type of artificial organisms. It was mentioned that Geras is an artificial being created by her.

yep, but everyone have some sort of weakness .... remember in story trailer, someone saying to the MK heroes , to take control of Kronika's hourglass .... if that so, maybe that not only can make them revert and control time, but, controlling the hourglass, could make them affect Geras and Kronika in some way ? .... their Kryptonite !
