A friend of mine who plays offline with me is trying to pick up sinestro and we were wondering what are the appropriate times to try and charge trait? I tried looking but there's so much I don't know where to search. Any advice would help thanks :)

Usually after combos ending in b213, 112, or f2d13. Also you can frequently charge and cancel to bait the opponent and help add to your current charge. Some MUs are kinda tough to get trait though.

There are a multitude of options where you can charge trait. you can do it at the end of a combo (ex. f2d13 and/or 112). Considering that sinestro combos push the opponent across the screen, you can get a good 1/2 to 2/3 trait charge. You can also use a trait charge to try and bait out an opponents attack and full combo punish them for an actual trait charge. Those are just the basic ways for sinestro to charge trait but I'm sure there are more ways. Hope this helped :)

I'm no Sinestro main but I would say not to charge it fully at any one time. I'd say the best times are either at the end of a combo, cancelled at the end of a blockstring or whilst the opponent is immobilised for example if you have them in shackles. But of course where you have them in shackles is also important, if it's full screen charge trait, if it's midscreen you could go for the vortex or charge trait

Edit: You could also refer to those answers ^^ lol

Adding on to what everyone else has said:

I believe trait charge head games are the core of his traitless meta in any matchup where the opponent actually has to approach Sinestro. It's what makes "just block and be patient, and you'll get in eventually" so hard to do in actual practice when combined with his amazing footsies and zoning.

An example situation's like doing MB boulder and charging trait, as soon as they wake up, you cancel trait charge into shackles and punish them for getting antsy if they try a dashin or something(and then charge more trait XD). Another example's like tapping trait charge outside midscreen, and canceling into fear blast/boulders/shackles/whatever. Once you get them to respect your ability to blow them up for nearly anything, they'll just start chillin when you do it and creep up slowly or whatever. Soooooo while they're takin their time, you can be like "okay, I'm just gonna chill here and keep charging trait."

An effective way to charge trait up close though is 3~charge. Standing 3 has 10f startup, crazy pushback (roughly 2 blocks on the Miscira temple stage) on block, and is completely safe on block even when canceled into trait charge. Also establishes it's own meta like the one's I mentioned above. Most people unfamiliar with the tactic will usually jump in after blocking, so you can cancel your trait charge into d2 and get a nice b3 afterwards and combo into his many shenanigans. If they like to dash in, you can cancel trait charge into d1*shackles* option select or another 3~charge. I could write an essay on these scenarios, but I think you get my drift :b I like to throw out 3~charge usually after a confirmed d1 or after blocking a string/special that's negative(but not enough to be punished)on block. As long as it doesn't whiff, there's really not much of a downside. lol

Thanks for all the info about trait guys, I really had no idea it was cancelable. That's really cool and tricky. Once my training partner learns this then I'm really gonna have to put in work in this matchup. Thanks again guys

Beware your Fears
You can charge trait after shackles, anti-air fear blasts (can combo into shackles if done correctly) and after mb boulder, also in between combos but its more for the swag factor

Actually i hit confirm mb boulder from shackles all the time now from fullscreen i still get 2/3 of a full trait charge plus some damage as well

I'll have a video to post up sometime soon with some new set ups, cross up or non cross up j2's, ij2 resets and a few other things. Should have it sorted within a week

Don't know if anyone knows this, but after a B21 in the corner, you can reverse wakeups by dashing in. It won't work if the opponent tech rolls though
Didn't know about this but 22d2 and d3 do the same and are hkds. It works off a b12 as well but that can be tech rolled also, nice to know anyways

I've also found a set up where you can combo off b21 midscreen with just one trait shot (with b3 you can do b1xxshackles all the time) still messing with it though to find out how I can make it work 100% of the time, I've got it to around 90% consistency, will post a video when I've got it down

The only combo I know off B21 midscreen with one trait shot is: B21 Trait B1 DB1 B3 J2 B213

Hey guys so I'm really busy with work and I managed to do a SIX axe combo I wanted to record it but I don't have the time but when I do I'll get a video

All you do is pretty much do the 5 axe combo but after laser interactable air axe trait shot instant air axe

The only combo I know off B21 midscreen with one trait shot is: B21 Trait B1 DB1 B3 J2 B213
Is B21 trait b1,bounce cancel possible?

Nice I'll check it out when it's up.
B1 bgb doesn't work. From certain set ups you can whiff the B2*1 and get a b3 with only 1 trait shot, I'm not too consistent with it atm and I'm trying to find an optimal set up for it

You can get b21 trait j2 b1 bgb b3 j2 b2xxshackles j2 f2d13 for 45%
But it's much easier to do b21 trait j2 2xxshackles j2 2 bgb b3 j2 b213 for 42%

Tats decent damage

I know in the corner off b21 u can do

D1,D1,D1,112schackles,nj2,f2d13,s.t3 34%

Same combo end in d1 arachnid (easier) 33%

D1,f2d13,112,schackles,nj2,f2d13,D1 arachnid 37%

The trick Is after b21 hold crouch when u see your opponent flip forward and almost hit the ground d1 timing can b strict but it's worth it

Sorry I meant does b21,trait,b1, bounce cancel work not bgb

Update Bounce cancel does work 50% combo

B21,trait shot,b1,bounce cancel, jf2,b1,bgb ,jf2,b2,schackles,jf2,f2d13

Yeah I knew about the 3 d1s after b21 in the corner, never thought about doing d1 f2d13 I'll try that one out. Nice find. For style midscreen you can get b21 trait j2 trait b3 etc. Two trait shots so it's impractical, looks flashy though
