MKX is a fantastic game at its core, definitely worthy of being the successor to MK9. It's the bad things about it on the surface that make people think it should be scrapped. The 50/50s, excessive running in, overpowered jump attacks, underpowered defensive options and more could all be easily fixed and balanced, but MKX isn't getting any more patches so the only way we could see a properly done version of this game is if they keep building on it for MK11.
Agreed 100% been saying this since forever. MKX has potential just buff defense options.

Don't want Sonya, Johnny, Kenshi, Kano, Jax or Kitana/Liu/Kano playable. Make the former group not in game at ALL or given story cameos. The latter group should be boss/sub boss/story antagonist. As much as I love Mileena, if they don't revive her with a clone or something let her stay dead... Quan can go for a game too. Please a better story as well. Fire everyone and get the guy who wrote the comic. Rebel Tanya+Mileena+Rain again (Outworld civil war pt2?) Good guy Sindel, Fujin vs Dark Raiden, Hotaru+Seidan army. Just some thoughts. Really want to see Onaga or a good original boss.

Variations are a yes. They just need to fine tune and for Pete sake please give characters more variation specific strings. Just overall make it so that at LEAST 90% of the roster has tournament viable all 3 variations (a guy can dream right?) I really don't wanna see the same characters over and over. Some characters should get improved versions of existing variations, complete overhauls, or a mix of both.

Outworld marketplace, Kuatan Jungle, and The pit are all phenomenal stages. Most others are pretty bad. The temple and Sky Temple are great as well. Maybe new versions of those, but the rest needs to be new GOOD stages and a lot at that too.

Challenge tower should return, along with many fun other single player content. Single fight is a must. Improve the A.I even more, I love fighting against it.

Sky is the limit with NRS when it comes to finishers, they wont disappoint.

I know I probably missed a lot, but this is good (for now).

It sounds like you just want an expansion pack rather than a new game.
I want a $60 game's worth of content added onto a $60 game's worth of content. Whether it's via DLC or a new game doesn't matter to me, but we're not going to get more DLC so it would have to be in the form of a new game.

Everything about MKX except the 50/50s plus on block design, Not sure what made NRS take that route on the game mechanics I mean I can see what they were trying to do with the variations system even though they're pointless, waste of time and efforts for the developers and it doesn't really solve "the character loyalism problem". I say chill with the plus on block 50/50s, forget variations, focus on a simpler game that rewards player with great neutral and spacing more so that every high level fight doesn't feel like you're watching a running of the bulls. Just Saying ;)

I think people are only seeing that bad and not looking at what NRS did right this time. Sure, the game felt almost like a beta at release, but you cannot deny the variation system being a huge undertaking. No one has done something like that. Closest thing was SSF4's Ultra 1 vs Ultra 2. But in SSF4, selecting your Ultra didn't vastly change how you play the character.

Considering how experimental NRS has been in the past, variations could have been an absolute disaster. They could have been WORSE at release. Your money was already thiers, and they could have easily said "fuck it" like they did with the PS3/360 versions or eventually PC and not gave a damn. Instead, they kept with it, balancing the game as best they could, added bits of content here and there for free, and two DLC packs.

What we ended up with was a game that is easily their most balanced game when all bets were against them. If for the next game they take what they've learned with MKX and take the time required to make the variations diversified AND balanced, I think we'll have a quality game.

As for specific mechanics, personally, I think running needs to go. Dashing is all that's needed. Make backdashes more viable as a defensive option. Also, like someone else said, add more specific properties to specials to better help with balance instead of adding armor to everything.

And for the love of Zod can we just do away with 3D hitboxes?
I guess you never played Alpha 3!

Okay I think most of you are fucking crazy or misremembering the quality of MK9 if you want MK11 to be more like that than X.

How about we take X, take the things we all almost universally agree weren't great, and build on the good stuff? I remember dealing with a lot more stupid shit and jank with a lot less features than X in MK9.

I think it needs to be half overhaul half refining what they have.

These complete overhauls are why they struggle so fucking much with balancing compared to other series because they have nothing to go off on. I don't mean copy paste, I mean like Street Fighter where 5 clearly feels like a different game than 4 but Ryu still plays like Ryu, but with a new feel and new features.

If they didn't try to overhaul every time they'd have the time and resources to really shape characters more deeply and add more features to the game.

And even more important to long time fans, they can increase their character budget considerably. Instead of spending a full character's worth of time doing Raiden again, just spend time perfecting his previous version and put all of that extra time left into making a returning character not in X or a brand new character.

Basically we can get more if hey refine what they have. We lose nothing this way.

We can have a roster like this if they don't jump ship with every damn game:

Also, I can't support shitting on variations too hard.

The very idea of them screams "hard as fuck to balance" and for NRS with their track record, for a first attempt? I think they did fine.

I think if they continue to work on them, look at why a character like Jax worked out perfectly while a character like Ermac ended up being one-note and apply that to their variation design process in the future, it'd be more than great.

First step would be to trim some of the fat on their concepts. The character's with three even variations work because those variations are so simple in what they do. The high-concept variations end up being the worst(pre-patching to balance them), look at Spectral or Naginata for example. Some times they work out but in most cases they fall flat.

Terrible times breed terrible things, my lord.
MK11 should build off of the last 2 titles & previous titles too. Period.

Like I've said in previous posts in other threads that MK has always been the type of game and franchise that keeps evolving. Always breaking out of the box and staying fresh.

MK is very good and faithful at keeping veterans of all the old titles happy in ways that stay familiar us while pushing the boundaries of capturing new students of the game.

So again. Like other pervious titles let it build off from MK 9 and MKXL in MK11.

There's some things that should not return and some that definitely should stay but regardless let it build of from the previous games. Too much change isn't always a good thing when this franchise has been around over 20+ years.

Keep the innovative ways like the stamina meter and variations as well as the Xray.

Keep the story moving. Aged characters and new stages & old with new Characters and some old ones too;)

New mechanics to the engine of the game and some old ones too like fighting styles just like in MKDA, MKD & MKA which is pretty much variations itself.

Those wonderful mini games like chess Kombat and puzzle Kombat. Maybe a new shooter type of kombat game.

Mini conquest modes for most characters detailing their stories and absences from the games and while tieing it into the story mode. Which aslo a longer story mode in of itself as well would be great to have again. MK9's story mode was a epic movie compared to other fighting game story modes. Phenomenal!

I think we and they know what we don't want.

Safe 50/50's. - This is stupid. 50/50's should not be safe, guaranteed and rewarded by any means. If I play the lottery or roulette I'm not safe or guaranteed nothing if I lose so why is this logical in MK? No. Get rid of this.

Better kombat modes not custom kombat or have over half the towers dropping bombs and fire all over the place. This got old fast.

3v3 & 5v5 teams. Who plays this and better yet how often do you get a connection online with one?

More emphasis on balances of the characters on normals.

Honestly that's it.

MKXL is a fantastic game and is for the most part close to being balanced overall so yeah.

Why the hell not build MK11 off of the previous titles before MK9 with MK9 & XL for the next game.

Hey they've done it before so I have no doubt they'll do it again.

Let's move towards fundamentals that reward smart/patient play, and away from the 50/50 circus that NRS apparently wanted MKX to be. The game may be fairly well balanced compared to previous entries, but it's balanced around the idea of "make every character as bullshit as possible."

I guess I mean that you want basically an Ultra Mortal Kombat X (like Ultra Street Fighter 4) rather than MK11 which would be nice.

MK11 should be a different game, with a new main story, new characters etc. It sounds like that is not what you are asking for.

my vote is no, when the new MK will come out the technology is gonna be even better than now, hopefully they can use displacement mappings to make the models even better and that the game mechanic is more stable, plus it would be cool if they added the babalities.

It would also be awesome if they added a tag team mode again and a story mode like the mortal kombat mythologies game with co-op possibilities

So I would say hire me Neatherrealm as a game designer and character artist :p

I honestly don't even know what I want dude, because every game has new, good shit that I never even thought of. NRS has improved so much from MK9 to IGAU to MKX. At this point I pretty much trust them to keep being badasses and improving with every game they drop.

I don't think they'll use MKX as a template, mostly because I think Injustice 2 will come next. Then maybe MK11 either late this gen or early next gen. By then it should be a very different engine.

I expect them to keep the mechanics which work and improve or scrap everything which doesn't.

  • The 3 variations per character was a lot of fun, but I don't expect to see it again. It's made balancing basically 3 times as difficult for them
  • I'm sure we'll still have some form of interactables
  • We know we'll get Fatalities and other -alities. Probably the new Brutalities are staying since they turned out so good
  • Pretty damn safe to say it will be 2D

I love variations like this is one of the few games where you can exclusively use scorpions sword i think ppl are looking at the balance but not realizing how good variations are like dualist liu kang is so kool he cant go nuts like everybody else but his design is too good i think they should get rid of test your luck and have a kustom kharacter mode where you pic and choose what moves from each variation you want while the main game is just basic chars for tourney players and balance and what not

Most humble shit talker ever!!!
MKX is a really good game and it can be fun once your playing as or against certain chars

I absolutely love the run mechanic and think they did a great job but it should not be a staple for an MK games foundation .

This game was obviously designed to be a super offence Rushdown game which they did a good job on, so I think another just Rushdown based game would be stale.

Once they balance 50/50s, jump attacks ,cut down on launching armours. And I guess advancing string which I didn't have a problem with.

Hell they don't even in need a dash cancel system once universal mobility is fluid .

But a good and also bad thing with NRS they never do what they did before again

I have seen a huge wave of negativity about the game, yet everyone keeps playing and when the new game comes out people will praise this one as better. Yes the next game should definitely build upon this one.
It's the Street Fighter effect.

Liu Kang must be in it and some of the classics, just like street fighter has their regulars. I like the run button but perhaps can be toned down. Variation system is ok.
