Every time I see the capital "I" it makes me think it's an L and that it's Perfect Legend playing as Raiden.
Ahaha sorry :') I think PL's been playing more Kabal lately. Slight gas suits his aggressive play style but I've never followed him closely anyway so I wouldn't know

Without going into how good or bad the variation is (just use what you want, it's the point of customs). I'd like to caution against using float for counterzoning. Very often Raiden will scoot himself backwards if you're doing the diagonal projectile...right into the projectile you were supposed to avoid (not to mention the diagonal projectile is -4 on hit anyway). Most times any high projectile will hit you out of float anyways, so you have to do preemptive stomps that are susceptible to whiff punishes. Again, play what you want, but that's my personal experience with float for counter zoning. Still glad you're repping float though. There needs to be more Raiden players who experiment with customs!
Its niche but there's some really strong projectiles that it avoids or at least adds some options against. Some that it outright ignores. Just that you can float there and not have to eat low or even mid projectiles with a cancel is strong, but it comes with almost half-screen evasive overhead(reminds me of Tamaranean Charge) and the lightning strike which doesn't always trade well with 50 damage but it lets you throw something out, possibly trade or avoid like you said. -4 is ugly but it's whatever

Obviously it avoids low projectiles but some of the notable moves it easily avoids include Baraka's Sparks, Joker's Low Gun, Robo's Low Gun, Cassie Low Gun, regular Ice Ball, Kano's laser, Scud Shot, Rambo traps and Sand Trap. I think we can all say we've lost matches because we couldn't deal with some of these moves, and options always help. There's more that it can avoid or help you counter if you are willing to make reads, but I think it makes a really big difference in some matchups. Plus it's just a really versatile move so it can earn its place even if that aspect isn't working for it.

Careful of sand trap and rambo trap. They punish the diagonal projectile easily on block. I'm not saying the move is bad I've been using it since ultimate came out.

Some analysis of Raiden by MK Tom Brady, in way of talking about NRS patching:

Not sure I agree entirely, but interesting nonetheless. I'm at work right now though so I've only had a limited/distracted time to view the vid. I'm fine with how Raiden's B12 and F32 works, and I think you can even add Float in if you really want some more stagger options to try and make B12 safer. Of the things I'd like to see adjusted for Raiden, B12 has generally been the least of my concern's.

Thanks @Tom Brady !

B12 needs to be -7 end of discussion. If Liu Kang has f34 at -7 with the vast amount of options he has Raiden deserves safety of off his main neutral string.

B12 has never needed to be safe. It's not like people are punishing the string often given how many options he has afterwards. It's already a good stagger and fulfils it's purpose as the higher-risk-higher-reward mid option in the neutral. If you want to stay safe your main neutral mid options should be F32 and F4. If you want to go for a higher risk option then you go B12 into something.

Regularly paired with the top 100 players and you cannot stagger this string id the opponent knows the matchup.
So you’re telling me that at around the 1:30:00 mark that PI isn’t staggering B12 against Han Rashid (someone who should clearly know the Raiden MU)? And again in 1:32:00?

I don't know man. I'll fully admit I'm a pure casual player, but it seems fine to me. B12 is far from his only option. Raiden has a safe 11F mid string in F32. He can also jail into strings like 243 and 32 pretty easily for safe easy hit confirms or block pressure. He has a safe F4, his F2 is good. Even if you want to use B12 there's plenty of ways to stagger it to keep the opponent guessing. If you really want you can add something like his Float move and then you can mix in some B1-Float-Amp-Overhead shenanigans.

Raiden's fine. He's not top 5, but not everyone can be. He's got some good tools, and is viable enough to compete.

He’s viable enough to compete in Kombat league. Not at a pro level.

How did that set against Han rashid go by the way? Oh that’s right, PI lost 3 0. He doesn’t have the tools to make any character respect him. It’s typically always worth challenging him. The b12 grab was always a crap solution. The string already ends as a high which means you have to jail off the first hit. Of course it should be safe. Stop trying to neuter your own character. The most effective way to play Raiden is the way pluralmite does, as a zoner- using the teleport as way to hit confirm off of b12 and get out of dodge.

Why should I care about Raiden being viable at a "pro level"? Most pro's are simply going to pick from the top 5-10 characters anyways. Sonic Fox used Raiden for a tournament and they did just fine, several pro players have played Raiden in tournaments and done fine. Not every character can be top 5.

Also, nobody is trying to neuter Raiden. If they make B12 -7 it's not like I'm going to tear my garments in anger or anything. I just don't care if they do or not. Raiden has other strings and moves. There's other things I'd rather they adjust for the character.

You're like a sadomasochist who just wants your character to be bad. The appropriate response to that is piss off. No Sonicfox didn't do fine. You need immaculate spacing to win with him at a high level and he deserves to be brought up beyond strike throw gimmick with an OS. The way the string is built as a high ender should leave it safe. The only other string that really needs to be looked at is 321 (tightening up the gap so you need to flawless block it, not sure what the idea is behind a gap that fucking huge is there. It's almost like they weren't actually thinking when they made the character. Fujin can make b11212 safe, cancel, pressure, and he plays less neutral than Raiden. I've gained this character MK9, MKX, and now, and this is the worst he's ever been not count the abomination that happened in Injustice 2.

The antagonism, unnecessary ad hominems, and the flame baiting/trolling stops now. It’s entirely pointless to the conversation. If you can’t handle having a discussion without resorting to doing these things, maybe just refrain from engaging. You’re creating a toxic environment for everyone involved.

Please make an attempt to behave reasonably. Thanks.

Shameless plug :D All feedback welcome. I'm a bit rusty and this is the first Raiden video I've put up in a while so I missed some discharge punishes but other than that I'm pretty happy with this and the guy gave me props which was a rare and joyous occasion

EDIT: Just posting the rest of my videos here. Welcome all constructive feedback so I can improve!

Any reason you barely use B3, 1, 2+4? I think i saw it once in all of those matches.
There are several reasons:
  1. I tend to forget about that move a lot
  2. There's the flawless block gap between B31, I don't usually go online to play but when I play sets with friends they all know how to flawless block and punish me so I gradually phased it out of my gameplay hence reason no. 1
  3. Even if I hit it they can break away if I launch them (and potentially fun combo punish me), and even if I cancel into summon lightning they won't get hit if they break fast enough
So since going B31 is already plagued with these issues, I don't use B31 2+4 much at all. The full string is also -24 so some characters can punish you with slide and stuff I think.

Usually if I do B3 it's a stagger (that's unsafe anyway at -9) or an input error (because I've forgotten that I had already put on quick charge or I tried to do it and I messed up the input)

Thanks for watching the videos though :D

I tend to forget about moves a lot too. After a match i always think "why didn't i do more of this or that". I guess that's the difference between casuals and those that are much better players. Knowing all your options definitely helps to keep your opponent thinking.

I rarely get that string FB'd, so probably tend to throw it out more. But again, that comes down to different levels of players. Will keep that in mind.

Thanks for the breakdown :)
