Regarding the second sentence, I didn't say that. But what is obvious is that less variety potentially makes balance an easier task, since you have less variability to control.

No need to push the argument to the limit. 25-30 characters with no variations can be a nice and diverse roster. Kustom variations add way too much variety imo and will affect the balance like it happened in X or more, time will tell.
