is this directed at my post? if so, i meant to say that the big earners are taxed less because of the pull they have with the government. this was a statement in response to another post, not my opinion on how it should be handled.
I've always had a big problem with considering higher taxes on the wealthy (something we did successfully for decades until the right wing decided it was evil) "punishing success". Maybe I'm just a strange person, but I consider "success" to be the extent of one's contribution to societal progression. I never saw why it has anything to do with how much money one makes. Higher taxes on the wealthy is just saying "you can afford to give us more money, which is something we need to improve the country that helped bring you this wealth, so stop being a whiney asshole".

Decriminalization (not full legalization) would be good though. Portugal did this a few years ago and their drug problem has gotten significantly better with a larger focus on treating addicts instead of arresting them.

Those caught for possession do not face jail time, but are rather fined and/or admitted to rehabilitation programs if it's determined they are an addict. It's resulted in reductions of drug-related deaths and HIV cases, as well as an increase in voluntary treatment.
I say anything else than weed and they immediately are forced to go to rehab.

History shows that prohibition not only doesn't work, but creates more problems than does good. First of all, people will find a way to still get the drugs whether it's legal or not. Secondly, it creates drug wars and gang wars based on territory. Thirdly it costs so much more to lock up drug dealers/users than it's worth. Fourthly the economic benefits would be substantial if something like Marijuana was legalized.
It was only illegalized because it interfered with corporations. There is no real reason for it to be illegal.

Man even if you dont like Obama, you have to realize he would not be nearly as bad as Romney. I mean Obama has problems and moral issues, I get that. But Romney is even more dangerous because he is ignorant. He doesnt know anything about foreign policy(That worked so well *cough*Bush*cough*) and he is only looking after himself. Add a VP that cannot physically tell the truth and a wife who is even more ignorant than he is and you have one of the worst candidates ever. What's sad is my state will vote Romney no doubt. Fuck Texas man.

Obama isn't good on foreign policy. I'm not saying Romney is. He is terrible, but when both candidates are bad you can't like only one of them is bad. We need to stop bombing innocent people.
And they get profits. It's like that episode of South Park about illegal downloading. Increasing taxes on them doesn't make them middle class, it just means they might need to buy a normal private jet over a gold-plated private jet. It's not a punishment, it's telling them that because they can afford to do so, they must give more to help the country that helped them get to where they are.

There are little things like this, yes, but that's not where the big dollars are going. There are people on the right wing who want to cut things like federal funding for research (which would negatively affect me, personally), when this is such a small part of our spending. People are afraid to put things like cutting defense on the table. The amount of money that we use for our defense budget is absolutely ridiculous, and leagues above the amount of any other country in the world.
I made a video post earlier about defense budget fear mongering. You're right defense budget is a huge part of it.we have less active troops than in 2003 yet we spend almost double.
