My Impressions of MLG Dallas

Can anyone please explain the bracket situation and if things will be changed in the future? A loss is a loss but it really pissed me off that I spend hundreds of dollars to go all the way to Dallas to end up fighting one of my New York teammates in the 2nd round of the tournament (and his first match due to byes).

If it were just me, it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but that wasn't a case. I know that without hundreds of players, teammate run-ins can be unavoidable, but in a 96 person bracket this should NOT be happening this early on in the tournament.

2nd round:
Me vs Crazy Dominican
KH_KingDavid vs KH_Scar (just to add, round 3 would also be two KH players if Royale had beaten W1nter Warz)

3rd round:
GGA Han vs GGA 16bit

4th round:
Maxter vs W1nter Warz
DJT vs MIT
REO vs J360

1st round losers:
Satsui vs Kanechump (somewhat understandable since neither are clearly EGP affiliated)

2nd round losers:
KH Royale vs KH KingDavid (.....i feel really bad for KingDavid now)

completely agree...it should be obvious that 16 bit and I are on the same team from our tags, but somehow I fight him 3rd round winners?

They are really to consider what "team" you're on? Who fucking cares aside from the two teammates? You're essentially playing for yourself and it should be treated as such.

so the fact that I train with and live near these guys shouldn't be considered at all? Most tournaments are seeded regionally after top seeds get spread out. Why the hostility, may I ask?

No hostility at all. Only respect for the GGA lads. It’s just the way I speak and unfortunately gets perceived incorrectly sometimes... The joys of an emotionless communication medium...

To the point, I really don’t think it should be considered at all. I could make up some bullshit story that I live near and train daily with PL, REO and Pig so I don’t get to face them until later. The potential for abuse and the logistical nightmare it’d cause would just be more frustrating then actually facing your “teammate” within the first few matches.

The bottom line is that MK's a solo game.

Ok, gotcha. I thought you were singleing me out for whatever reason. There are arguments on both sides of regional seeding, I can respect that. But it just personally sucks for me to fly 800 miles to play a training partner in R3.

Well, the thing that has to also be considered is that people travel to tournaments not only to compete but to play other players. Grassroots tournaments have always considered regions because it is pointless travelling to tournaments and play the people you can play at home. These events are also supposed to serve as an experience to play other players in a tournament that you would not have a chance to play in your local scene. It is hard to make this perfect for every scene in a tourny but it was clear that MLG did not put enough thought into this unfortunately.This is just another example of what MLG has not carried over from the major tournaments.

Also, I do see your side also grumpy, you could put a fake region to avoid playing certain players. But a little research and knowledge about the scene goes a long way to determine a player's location.

Does EVO work with those region seeds as well? I'm not surprised in the slightest that MLG didn't consider the region seeds, as from my understanding they don't even consider it for Starcraft 2 (their cash cow).

man.... it did suck that i had to play my fellow teammates so early. I understand if I had to play them further in the bracket, you're bound to play one another. But in the second round. C'MON MAN!!

I was pretty salty. FCP/EMP SCAR & KH Royale earned their wins.

The unfortunate part is that MK is not popular enough (or not organized enough) to actually have a ranking system to make seeding actually valid. We can't use our online ranking system as it's not even close to being accurate, nor (from my knowledge) do we use any other ranking system.

On a personal level I don't feel brothers should fight in the early rounds because I feel it would be a damn shame, however it's part of the game. As a business, MLG/EVO must see it as unbiased as possible. It sucks but it's true...

I think the big issue is that no other MLG games have real offline scenes, and if they do, it doesn't matter NEARLY as much as it does for MK.

I mean imagine if there was literally flawless internet play for MK. I would imagine that people would tend to get a lot more games in with people far away with them than their offline scene.

So yeah, basically offline seeding only really makes sense for us, which is probably why MLG didn't think of it.

I turned in seedings for MK9 at Final round as well as locations, clans, etc etc

Everyone was heavily separated and no vsm saw any of each other until top 8 yet I get killed for apparent rigging

All im saying in this post is NO ONE will be fully happy and someone will be blown up wrongfully in the end
