It was nice, but also somewhat of a hella circle-jerk. so awkward and cringe to watch at times. Next time they should let fans ask them questions about making the movie...and not just talk about how great it was making it over and over..and throw compliments at one another... like we know, dudes!..we know...

I did like the movie, I mean there's a lot to love about it.
The animation grew on me...
I loved to VA.
Raiden is so badass and mysterious - the way he should've been portrayed in the games; Reminded me of the image I had of him as a kid.
They nailed Sonya's character. they made me realize the version we have in MK11 is definitely NOT SONYA.. the one I knew and liked as a kiddo.
It reminded me she's not a cold-hearted bitch. she's a soft-hearted-badass bae, so much better...
Johnny was seriously funny... and the buildup towards the end was so nostalgic
Oh... the '90s were awesome.

Scorpion was just like his MK11 self at launch, super OP and requires a nerf, but to hand it to him.. Quan-Zero did murder his son right in front of him, he did go through hell (to all the netherrealms), and just by will power only I can get why he was so enraged and thus so powerful
I am satisfied with the ending, handing it over to Liu considering how he was underdeveloped in this version of the story would have been weird for those who are not familiar with the franchise, I do like how they explained and are building it up for what's to come w Shao Khan.

I can't wait for the sequel!!!
They need to find a better team to animate this tho. The animation looked like a cross between Afro samurai and og GI Joe.Not a good look for 2020

I am you

I am pretty sure they will upgrade the animation next time, again I didn't think it was AMAZING, but I also didn't hate it... it's better than nothing!!!

besides, 2020 is totally overrated in case you haven't noticed :DOGE

Right because having 6 games, 2 movies, and an animated series focused on Liu Kang was so much better.
It atleast made sense.. im not saying it always needs to be about Liu kang. I just don’t digg how it’s ALL about the lovely CAGE family now. I like them making Johnny a lot more important and funny. But not till the point where it’s all about him and his family. No matter what, they get the serious approach and most attention. Till the point where other great combatants, that imo, should have more attention in terms of their strength and lore.

I understand that NRS wants to introduce a number of new characters. But not to the point where important strong characters get shit on. Besides that, special forces being the new “Avengers” in the “MK universe” is a joke if you ask me. I get it WB, but stay true to what fits in your universe and mythology..

It was about the CAGE family for one whole game dude.

Johnny Cage got less exposure in this animated movie than he did in the 95 film where he defeated SCORPION(the mascot character) and GORO(MK Champion) but yet Sonya and Johnny are stealing the spotlight in THIS particular film man?

Im sure you are one of those “too many special forces characters and 2many guns” type of guys but don’t mind 17
masked people all with similar designs and move sets lol.

Sure, and your probably one of those guys that looks at things in a very liniar perspective. My reaction where you first reacted on was about the series in general DUDE. And you can’t deny the special forces theme (stages, gadgets, guns, characters) dominate the series a bit since Mkx. It’s supposed to be the new direction they are taking the series to

you really seem to hang in the “ you this, you that” syndrome. I don’t want the entire MK cast be ninja’s or or whatever.. but honestly i can relate more towards Scorcerers, Ninja’s and monster archetypes that have a martial arts inspired background or something similar in a fighting game that is about a “martial arts“ tournament lol

Lol. I'd say a special forces member would know more about martial arts than some sorcerer or monster in MK who doesn't even need it. But how can you even call MK tournament a "martial arts" tournament. Doesn't make sense to me.

I said inspired. Special forces are trained in “Close Quarters Combat”

“Shao Kahn sent Shang Tsung to establish the sacred tournament as a competition between his armies and Earthrealm“ Obviously most that participated knew how to fight. Goro was known for his brute strength and agility, Shang tsung is a shape shifter with a martial arts bg. im not saying they all have trained wing chun or taekwando but the point is they atleast know how to throw a punch.

What else is MK tournament about? Kart racing? Motor kombat? Lol

I too don’t like the excessive technological aspect of the special forces since MKX. I don’t mind the military characters, but I always felt they were meant to there for their hand to hand combat skills not their tech. All these jets and vehicles make it feel like Defenders of the Realm!

The perception the lore always gave me was that human technology was utterly meaningless compared to the power of sorcery, hand to hand training and inner strength. Modern machines are no match for gods and ancient legends. The soul being more powerful than the trigger.

Like how in the original movie Liu’s grandfather deemed Liu’s cynicism as “too much television” and how all of Sonya’s technology became worthless as they crossed over to the island.

man i still want to play the intended version of Special Forces. That game looked so promising. When Tobias left the game ended up trash lol i own the game, i think i should play it for once xD
Yeah I remember the previews where both Jax and Sonya were in it and was to be like Metal Gear Solid, the pile of crap that eventually was released was terrible. I actually kind of liked Mythologies, it was hard as nails and frustrating as hell with barely any clues as to what to do half the time, but enjoyed the live action FMV (cheesy as it was) and the fact that it went into Sub Zero's backstory so much.

I remember having been dumped about a week prior by my teenage girlfriend in August 2000 and was so heart-broken that I thought: "fuck it I need a new Mortal Kombat game to take this pain away... I've heard it's not very good, but I've loved MK since 1992, it can't be that bad, I need an old friend during these bad times!"

Fished it out of the bargain bin in HMV right after it was released haha.

And needless to say after 5 minutes of gameplay... it didn't help my heartbreak at all. In fact, I think I got it broken again at that point haha.

Let’s see whose fire burns hotter
Just don’t look for logic here guys. I loved the final fight but everything else except for action was SHIT. You know what’s the funniest moment of the movie? When Shang Tsung’s island is falling apart Raiden forgets that he’s a God and RUNS AWAY with Liu Kang. Even in the Defenders of the Realm he teleports when something happens lol

In original timeline, Quan Chi sent both Scorpion and Sub Zero to retrieve the amulet. Maybe that's what happened we just didn't see it from Sub Zero's perspective.
Good rule of thumb: Never, EVER justify bad writing by using headcanon. See it for what it is.

Even IF Quan Chi ordered Sub-Zero to steal the amulet (which he's doing a piss poor job by the way at that point), why the hell are there Lin Kuei there? Backup in case things go south? Shang Tsung was aware that Quan Chi wanted to make a move on the amulet and yet is letting a horde of Lin Kuei run around his island? And why the fuck would Quan Chi risk failure of his goal by making two parties who are hostile to each other fight for the same goal? If anything, he lessens his chances of success by making Scorpion and Sub-Zero kill each other before any of them get the key. Quan Chi could just as well have told Scorpion to get the key THEN give him Sub-Zero's home address and tell him to kill him when his guard is down (that way acquiring both without any risk of failure AND getting Quan-Chi's nemesis -as he would call him in MK4- [Sub-Zero] killed afterwards. Two birds with one stone.

The writing is moronic and abysmall. There is no reason for the Lin Kuei to be there other than to give Scorpion a chance to have his vengeance. There was no need for Shinnok and the key to play a part at all. Quan Chi should have told Scorpion "I give you a chance at vengeance, but afterwards, you are my bitch". That's it. Then things between Scorpion and Sub-Zero go as they did in MK9. But since they felt the need to make Scorpion a victim, a ghost rider, a martyr and a hero IN ONE SITTING, the whole storyline and lore got butchered in order to accommodate the character.

The very definition of shitty writing.

I don't know what was his plan in this movie but when he sent them both to retrieve the amulet in the original timeline, he didn't care at all if they killed each other as he would still have control over their souls. Bi-Han killed Scorpion so he kept control of him while Bi-Han and Lin Kuei were his allies anyway since he made a deal with them to kill Shirai Ryu if they get him the amulet.

So if that's the case in the movie, instead of Sub Zero going alone he just brought some friends with him, big deal.

But I agree, this information was missing in movie. At least if you know the history you can assume why they might've been there while for someone new to the series it wouldn't make much sense. There's still a chance for the sequel which might reveal more.

This is my review, TONS of spoilers:

My expectations were extremely low and i smoked a lot of weed to dumb myself down for this shit, so with that in mind, i thought this was great. Kinda surprised at all the hate. Finally an R rated mortal kombat! The animation for the action was better than i expected. But as others have said some of it looked a lil goofy, but the kill shots were always awesome. Was pleasantly surprised with cameo's like moloch and nitara. Sub Zero kicked ass at the beginning. Still wish the twist was that Quan Chi ordered Sub Zero to do it and wasn't just impersonating him but whatev, not sure why they always retcon that. The Scorpion/Sub Zero rivalry is less cool if Bi Han is totally innocent and its all a fuckin misunderstanding. Also impersonation is Shang's schtick, not Quan's. And I expected the overabundant Scorpion love, his name's in the damn title. Altho I do wish they toned down some of his god mode, as another user put it.

I was expecting the good guys to win every fight and the bad guys to job. And altho that dynamic always disappoints me it was at least handled better than most of the games' story modes, especially MK9. You could actually SEE the villains put up a fight and get some shots in. Baraka and Kano could even still be alive for a sequel. RIP Reptile, he got some okay hits in tho. As a Goro fan I love that he fuckin whooped every one, surprisingly/confusingly even Lui Kang, but I do agree that was lame he just got stabbed in the back basically. Feels like a cheap ending, and also confusing that a 1v1 tournament would allow that. But of course it was just rushing threw that stuff to save time for the Scorpion vs Quan revenge shit. Overall I wish the movie had been longer. Did feel rushed. I was pleasantly surprised most characters got a brief moment to shine, since I expected absolutely nothing, but I do wish it was more well rounded character wise with everyone getting more screen time/ more moments to shine. I thought Lui mowing down henchmen was dope. Scorpion doing Sub's fatal was indeed lame. And being so Scorpion centric overall was lame but I expected it. I prefer him over the Special Forces discount, bargin bin avengers.

As far as MK media is concerned this is the second best thing I've seen honestly. The first movie is classic, but yeah everything else has been garbage. Conquest had it's moments but strayed from the story too much, defenders of the realm sucked, the first animated movie was a joke, the youtube series was mostly hot garbage, and annihilation was of course garbage. So yeah, not sure what else you guys are comparing it to that makes it so bad. I love the lore, but the bar for good MK stuff is very low. This surpassed it. 7/10 and definitely worth a watch for MK fans.
