Hey gang been messing with Kano a bit and I think I’m looking to get into him just had a new questions;

What should I be using in neutral? F4 f3 etc?

And should I be punishing with 22 string etc?

I dig him I’m Just trying to figure out what strings and such I should be using against the opponents!

He's not good enough to compete right now. Will wait till he has a decent mid.
I feel like just a lot of his stuff is super readable..I like the character in this game but damn...like I mean what do you even do while getting pressured etc?

It’s like ppl in this game have decent forward moving strings and mix up..and then Kano just had a bunch of predicable shit..

hey guys, I know this question might be too obvious to some of you, but I was wondering what makes a move that hits mid any different from a move that hits high in terms of defense? aren't both of them blocked high? Is it because high attacks whiff on crouching opponents and mids dont?

It’s because a mid won’t whiff on an opponent that’s is pressing d1 so it means you can whiff punish them and catch them mashing with a high attack you can’t do that

I haven't had any problems against low-level players but against top players, It feels extremely one-sided.
I played you if you remember, I use Cetrion and in matchmaking Vs we were paired. You left too quickly after a few matches. You're not gonna learn the MU that way, so I think there was some unfamiliarity with what you could do in the MU that you can grind out over long sets with the character. At least against Cetrion.

I personally think Kano does very well against Cetrion. What do you think? We should play sometime.

That guy would probably disagree, but I think it's about even, if not a bit difficult for Cetrion. Kano's knives and Kano Ball can be problematic for Cetrion at range, and up close her buttons don't win any awards so some of Kano's weaknesses are significantly less weak against her. I feel it's slightly in Kano's favor all things considered.

Yea for sure, I've been on like 6 hours straight so I'm about to take a break to eat and relax until Game of Thrones. I'll be back on later if you wanna play then, or Tues-whenever. I never play on Mondays though, too much work lol.

Hey guys I would appreciate some feedback on my gameplay, here’s a few matches vs sub
Haven't quite finished the entire clip but a couple things stand out to me here:

  • In the Sub match up specifically, you really don't want to engage him with projectiles. When you find yourself at that wider / full-screen spacing, your job is to collapse it to mid-screen at worst immediately. From there you have the mix up of F3, B4 or air ball to dissuade him from wanting to throw regular ice shots without meter burning them. If he is playing the slide variation (which I think will fall out of favor in the long run but a lot of people still use right now), it's even more important because regular ice shot is reactable with F3 and it will put pressure on him to try and mix slides in this range, which are easy punishes. You can feel somewhat comfortable at mid range against Sub so long as you resist the urge to throw knives - never give him a projectile trade, it's exactly what Sub players want.
  • I think overall there's maybe too little usage of F4 and especially B4. B4 is one of Kano's absolute best buttons and one you can safely lean on / abuse to frustrate opponents and give yourself decent knockdowns. Even blocked B4s can be useful; watch their response to blocking B4 and see how good their own button spacing is. Sometimes you can just step back and get a free B3 KB because of the large amount of pushback on B4. F4 is also something I think you should break out slightly more so that you can condition people better on their wakeup. It'll open up your meaty low options a bit more, and give you more chances at an additional KB (with this button I'd pretty much always hold for KB unless you know they die without it, this KB is too hard to land to be picky about it).

Question, I like to use lesser popular characters. Thought about giving Kano a try but would he be good for zoning or playing keep away would anyone here recommend or not really? I noticed that one variation he seems very grapple heavy but not sure about his other one.

How does Kano stack up against the rest of the cast so far?

I’m struggling with lu and sub etc

My english it's not good
Found a bug

Couldn't test it again properly, but I assume that if you trigger B3 Krushing blow, and you trigger then eye laser KB while the bleeding is still there, eye laser KB deals regular damage instead the big one. Is there a place to notify Netherrealm studios about bugs?

Ok so although I still don't think Kano can compete at a high level, I actually think he's pretty decent. Only thing need changing is his f1 string and his f43 krushing blow imo.

I think just making his overhead faster so it's not reactable would make a big difference. Also a buff for the parry would be nice as I almost never use it because of the high risk and low reward.

Any idea where i get the "Brutal Blade" Brutality?

And how many Brutality´s does Kano have?
I think that's the brutality you get from the tower that pops up in ToT and lasts 2 hours. He has a single fight tower but I don't remember if that one gave a brutality as well.

He has:

D2
F throw
B throw
knife DoT + bio trap
lumbar check (amp)
mercy + 2,2, 1+3
knife toss (brutal blade)
parry

I'm only missing the parry brutal. I hope they add a few more brutals to his arsenal.

Thanks!
So i only need the "Parry" and the "Knife Toss".

I did the 2 hour ToT so it´s not from there. :(

After ruminating on it, I think a few small changes could help Kano out big time (I'm gonna be making some Baraka comparisons here, since he's another character I play).

All of his safe, confirmable strings are highs, but his low pokes don't give enough advantage to consistently jail opponents into blocking the highs, and Kano gets d1 spammed all day as a result. If his d1 or d3 had something like 14 frames of advantage (like Baraka's d3), then he could more reliably transition into his high attacks up close.

Additionally, speeding his OH up to 20 frames would be fair. That's just on the edge of reactable, and is balanced by the fact that his f2 low is unsafe.

If these changes aren't enough, speeding up his b3 would help immensely. Baraka's f4 is a 12 frame advancing mid that's safe and leads into a KB. So, by comparison, it wouldn't be crazy to make Kano's b3 12 frames.

I feel any 2 of these changes could bump him up a tier, and even with all 3 together he'd be worse than Baraka and other high-tiers.

I'm currently 120th on the ranked leaderboards on PS4 with only Kano and I'm hoping to break top 100 today. It'd make me the only Kano in top 100 who only uses Kano lol.

Kano is a good character who isn't unusable, but I do believe that against higher level competition that knows how to abuse his shortcomings, it's pretty uphill. His risk/reward is just so much more lopsided compared to the rest of the cast, and I'm not just talking about the obvious top tiers.

From up close, the safest mid option he has is his retreating B1, but in most matchups giving your opponent more room to breathe is exactly what you don't want to do as Kano.

Thankfully, Kano's D4 option select into Lumbar Check is his savior up close imo. Even with this though I'd say that Kano is a character that is good at mixing and Oki, but other characters are better at it and don't have the short-comings in neutral or up close that Kano has.

This all might come off a bit pessimistic, but it's also realistic. I'll say again though, Kano isn't horrible and he actually does pretty well against characters like Cetrion who some characters struggle against. Many of these things I'm saying only apply to the higher levels of competition. Once the dust settles though, I think in the current meta he is realistically going to be lower-mid tier or low tier.

Dude, the speeding up of B3 idea is probably the best buff idea I've heard so far for Kano. 12f would be a Christmas miracle, but personally if it were even 14f startup it would make me so happy. The move is good, but the fact that it's so slow makes it so it's only good when used paired up with a quick dash from a distance.

It would also give Kano a tool against opponents with good back-walk speeds who abuse Kano's shortcomings from mid-range in neutral. At the moment there are some characters with good pushback on their moves/strings that are allowed to throw out something hit-confirmable against Kano and retreat safely away to try again unless the Kano player wants to take a radical risk with something punishable to reach them. B3 and B4 are currently okay for this, but again, the risk/reward and the spacing/advantage afterward is largely in the favor of the opponent attempting to whiff punish or out-neutral Kano.

This is my current wishlist for fixes and buffs. I really don't think they are too unreasonable.

Possible Kano Fixes:
  1. Fix the whiff issues on F1 (whiffs on some crouch blocking opponents).
  2. Fix the whiff issues with the second hit of 11 (whiffs on some crouch blocking opponents).
Possible Kano buffs:
  1. Slightly speed up F4
  2. Slightly speed up B3
  3. Make D4 safer on block
