So what combo are you going for off a dive kick?

I've been doing b12 spin jk dk but I just came up with b12 spin b321 hat spin and then I have the hat spin out for oki pressure.

Any other options?

It's a little tricky, but I believe dive kick, b12-spin, run into 4-hat spin, 21 works. You could probably replace the 4-hat spin for 1-hat spin to make it easier. This should build the best meter and give you the option of a safe hat spin instead of automatically ending with it.

Cheers. The 4~hat spin is very inconsistent but 1~hat spin works well!

Okay I A because since the patch i've been trying d1 as AA and it seems like some here has changed as well. I've tried b1 and its Ok while standing but while crouching I feel helpless.

I don't think Lao will end up being a debatable top ten. His wake up game was handled extremely poorly. EX teleport is the greatest wake up ever, until you run into someone who will just move forward or do an advancing string once they've knocked you down, rendering teleport completely useless. You'll just whiff as they whiff, and due to Lao's recovery, it will be their turn, or they'll just punish you for being correct.

Lao also still has shitty mix ups in comparison to a lot of the cast. Sure the mix ups have been toned down, but there are still characters like Quan Chi, Ermac, Reptile, Kano, Jacqui, Cassie, etc, who have way better mix ups than Lao, even in Buzzsaw.

People will lose 50-3 or whatever score to Foxy, and won't be able to admit that it's just that he's that good. Foxy could make this community think that any character is top 5, however, in Lao's current state, he's just not IMO. Hit or throw, D4 conditioning, etc, is not reasonable when there are still 50/50 monsters lingering. No consistent armor is not reasonable when there is consistent and even safe armor left hanging around.

Lao is better than before, don't get me wrong. The quality of life buffs helped. I just expected a much better character than what we have, with all of these top 5 rumblings.

U are talking about tempest, u need to be precise now since buzzsaw is legit. Ex teleport is great wakeup because it gives him free way out of pressure. U dont have to always go for a throw, just do 3. And if someone wants to start punishing it (which isnt easy) then start throwing him. Spin is great aa now. Spin also got more usefull because ppl are much less scared to press their opponent because of launching armors nerfs. U can predict stagger and spin even in very tight frames situation. If u dont feel like risking, just do d1/d4. He fits the new meta very well.

Tempest or Buzzsaw. Neither have a legitimate wake up, neither have mix ups that are comparable to a big chunk of the cast. There's no way a character can be top 10 when they factually lack the tools that other characters have. A 7 frame poke is cool, others have 6. A good jump 3 is cool, others have busted jump punches that can lead into their launching 50/50s or better mix ups.

Whether you throw, teleport 3 or whatever, the move is a useless wake up. People can just move forward or do an advancing string, not risk losing pressure at all, and mindlessly blow up any teleport option. The move is completely useless on wake up. Anyone who thinks otherwise just doesn't understand yet, period. Being condescending is out of style but it's just a fact. The character went from having arguably the best wake up in the game, to having no wake up at a high level.

Buzzsaw still does hokey pokey nickel and dime mix ups. His zoning is better and his big damage is better when he gets it, but it doesn't make him top 10. Characters have better mix ups, better anti airs, better zoning, saying they have better armor is an understatement, etc. The character is not bad but the optimism is way too ridiculous right now.

Yes, they can avoid ex tele if they predict it. There is no way in hell u can react to 13 frames. And remember, it switches sides that alone makes it not useless. U cant just say "they have better 50/50". Ok they do but they probably lack in other areas kl doesnt. Im not saying kung lao is top tier because its too soon. He just has tools to deal in any situation now. "Anyone who thinks otherwise just doesn't understand yet, period. " (2 lazy to quote) why do we even have a discussion when u think u know everything and we are all wrong.

I would suggest to wait a little with the judgment. The patch just dropped, You dropped Alien and picked Kung Lao and you think You know everything and You are KL specialist Know. Frizen plays KL since MK9, through the entire MKX live so how about you give it some time, learn the game (its not Alien anymore) and perhaps you might end up a fine Kung Lao player.

I've played Kung Lao since day 1. I had ESL top 8s with Kung Lao, before Alien came out.

Btw, I've seen the new bnb. But wonder if You guys know that You can hit confirm b22 into straight hat and follow it up with instat dive kick.

Pick a top tier character if you don't feel like playing him and if you want 50/50 to fight fire with fire there are plenty of characters to do that

i'm actually having fun, and for the very first time i can narrow down the list of things that makes KL weaker when i lose it, and its not because he can't mix ppl up, Lao is a fundamental character, its not about OH/Low mixups and fity fity, he is just a footsie character overall.

You can see the style flowing through foxy style, which in this new system kinda helps out Lao a lot, he might not be Top tier, but he isn't far off the best characters in the game even with a wakeup that works mostly in the corner.

Of course there is still huge risk on the character overall, i still don't like his walkspeed and backdash distance which are worthless, on top of that the spin hitbox is so inconsistent landing AA combos now that the Jab S1 has been nerfed because it used to be a bug that helped our character have consistent juggle fillers from AA.

So y'know how generally you would end combos with 21, do you have to do a second run cancel after the divekick to get them connect consistently or what?

Like I'll do b2 xx hat spin, 44, rc, b321 xx spin, jk dk and then the 21 will usually whiff midscreen. Been trying to do a slight run after landing and it kind of works I'm just wondering if there is something else I should be doing gravity wise or whatever.

Up until now I just accepted that I wouldn't hit that 21 but now that Lao is awesome again I want to get this down. So should I do b2 xx hat spin, 44, rc, b321 xx spin, jk dk, rc, 21 or what?

When you land b321~spin, run a little bit and do jk dk, this will adjust the distance so you can land 21 consistently, rc after dive kick to land a 21 won't be just as consistent.

Yeah, I've being doing it like this for over a year and now I have to adjust hnnghh, here we go.

Kung Lao is garbage at wake up , until his tele starts to track players , it's useless , if u tele and does noting , you are at -gazillion and that's no wake up at all , all the other cast wake up is reversal .. We need a better armor move and a faster mid to compete ...
