I keep trying to betray Kotal Kahn but damn he just feels good no idea why. I'm getting worse with him not playing him but still do well with him.

Having gone through all the command grab characters now, he does quite good damage in addition to having command grab. I still probably should invest in an anti keep away character, but damn he's fun.

It's because he has really long range and you can play good mindgames with F3 and D1.
 
Something stupid and useless from the kitty side of things: a low to the ground amplified air panther hits an extra time (120 regular amp vs 194 dmg from 2-hit amp).

I don't see any use for this, since you could combo into better things from a jump-in like that, but uhh why is it even doing that.

Need some help with Kotal. Does he get anything off his D1 besides throw? S2 doesn’t seem to reach? Is there a use for S4? I know it’s a high but it’s still relatively fast and reaches far too and only -1 on block. Is it a good tool?
D1 can tick point blank into command grab, good luck getting it consistently though. S2 is a high. S4 is a great anti air at range. I have found it is great for smashing jump kicks spaced poorly, very situational though. What I do use it for is against air projectiles. Like that fucking axe from Sub Zero. When they get all happy with it and I don't trust myself to proper punish, S4 will slap them at a great range after I block the axe and I take very little risk.

Personally, I hate Totemic. Between the fucking totem not giving you health if you're blocking or getting hit, the cat straight missing or people falling out of it, and no way to open people up (for me. I NEED that command grab to make people move) I feel like I'm tying my legs together and trying to run. Yeah you can do it, but why make it that fucking hard?

But he gets an unblockable vs normal WU/ rolls? B22 xx kotal cut, 34 xx quake seems designed to force delayed WU, which lets Kotal get god ray out, etc etc. There’s a good mind game there somewhere.

Dropping combo damage for unsafe unblockables is not really worth it at all. Especially to threaten sunlight, which is largely useless in ascension outside of certain matchups.

Yeah it’s a gimmick for sure. I thought the risk reward might be worth it trying to set up a grab game near sunlight.

Yes it is, but I can't remember the frames. No, F4 is a hard knockdown so you can't convert off it. It's a fantastic poke though, as is D4. His sweep is EXCELLENT. Great range and great push back on block.

I live and die on the F2 string myself. A few examples of what I do to people, after a command grab for instance.

F2 4 3. Super negative, but a low.
F2 4 (hit confirm) DF2, 1 2 command grab. (Beats jumps and back dashes and buttons).
F2 4 (blocked, enemy is scared), command grab
F2 4, Unblockable
F2 4, Counter (beats punish attempts)
F2, Unblockable
F2 4, block
F2 block
Dash up Unblockable (crushes delayed wakeup and wake up and block).

I have a ton of success off that. There is no option that beats all that that I have ever run into, the opponent and I have to read one another. And that's just one string after landing a Command Grab.

I like where your head is though. I think that's very creative, bravo! Even if it turns out it isn't worth it or never works, I like the thought process.

Spent some time with Totemic Kotal today and I really enjoyed it. I know he has problems and he's different from his MKX iteration but I'm on team Kotal for now.

How do you guys deal with zoning characters though? Shang Tsung gave me fits.

Probably patience and wave dashing. His wave dash is phenomenally good at closing distance. Though it is hard to say the least.

Yeah I need to learn how to wave dash more consistently.

How well does AMP cat leap do at punishing projectiles?
From what I’ve seen it usually works only as a read and not a reaction. Especially since it’s still relatively slow and very very punishable

Yeah that's what I figured. Can you soak multi shooting projectiles when AMP Cat?

I like that parry can soak projectiles though.
