Is Kotal cut a part of base for him? I use the first variation as of right now

I believe cut is his uppercut looking move isn’t it?
Its a slot move in his tournament variation Ascension. (DF2) the other various has a saw move that is base and no combo.
Since most of his problems are base both variations suffer but totemic is trash in every way.

Very good video man. I'd like to apologize for earlier. Mostly because of miscommunication text and I feel if we where face to face it would be another deal.

Great tips, I think boobs TP can punish it but great video none the less.
Maybe you could make a Kotal breakdown video.
You can include things like BnB Kahn-Cut ended into Sunlight/Quake. Very good way to shave off 40 frames from startup/recovery from his unsafe moves.
Kahn-Cut being plus 40 on hit makes Quake a 41 frame startup move pretty safe unless they read it.
Sunlight being 14f start-up and 62f recovery you can shave off a massive 20-30 something frames gimicky but decent.

Thanks for taking the time to help others with Kotal.

For totemic variation, a little option select:
You know the cat move on whiff "escapes" from ducking opponents , so D4 and my favorite option,the 22 string makes the move almost safe.
You can do Ji2(overhead)-22(low)-BF4 : On hit is nearly 20% and on block let you escape from punish

The cat as it is has a thousand recovery frames, I highly recommend not using the ground panther to "escape"

The air version though is notable.

Fun fact, its also breakaway vulnerable for a full combo punish on reaction between the two first hits of kitty cat. Anywhere on screen.

Probably some bug.

I wish this game wasn't a cashgrab when it came to cosmetics, I want that fucking brutality and it's up to rng to tell me when I'm allowed to waste an hour of my life for it.

I'm not sure if Totemic has a ton of merit but I don't think the totem weirdness is that big of a deal. Certainly want to get my health back from it but to me, you play Totemic for the Sunbeam and the bit of additional neutral utility of kitty cat moves

What utlity do the panther moves have? They're terrible, sun is safely done out of pretty much nothing if your opp is on point. The totem is what at least makes up for his terrible damage in that variation. It prolongs the game into being about footsies instead of damage.

I'd honestly play totemic if the totem was working properly.

His one Panther move is a divekick, it doesn't do much damage but I don't think I need to explain the utility of that. The other one may be trash in light of the breaker but it is a relatively fast mid-charge type move with good damage and corner carry.

Perhaps you are right about the totems but I find his sunbeam to be quite useful against some character's attempts at zoning. Sun Disk trades well enough to get some respect. Not everyone has a Nomad Dash or teleport to check you with. And if you can get them in to low HP with amplified Sun Beam out, that is a super cheap situation.

So it Kung Lao's. You can use it to change your jump arc and make jump reads on projectiles at farther ranges and whatnot. It's not exceptional but it's a thing.

Honestly i stand by that Totemic is pure shit (not that Asc. is any good either). I know Harold likes it but i just dont see it.

Cat is a gimmick and sure it can serve the same purpose as KL DK but KL neutral game is like 10x better than Kotal, he actualy has a good advancing mid. The dive kick is just another tool to control space... which he does pretty well. With Kotal you control ass.

I really wonder how Kotal made throu NRS QA. Maybe they just gave him to some temp which had no idea about FG, that would explain a lot.

Yep. The man does NOTHING well except get hit. If I had a nickle for every projectile that clipped my feet at almost peak jump... I love Kotal, but he is absolutely terrible. I can't walt until they do something with him.

I think its a big deal. Just less so now because people don't know the matchup.

All anyone has to do is breath on Kotal towards the end of totem and he gets almost nothing if anything. Even block damage.

When I play against other Kotals they ain't getting life back. It's a fun variation but fraudulent IMO.

Yeah, literally the entire point of it is bugged.

edit: nothing worse than landing a 220 dmg combo + an F4 with 3 totems up, waiting to cash in 300 dmg, then you block a long range blockstring and get shit.

the variation literally doesn't work.

So I just started playing online recently, been having a blast offline, and bro. The first time that situation happened to me, i was confused. Then it happened again, then again, then i hurt myself in my confusion...

How the fuck did that make it past QA?! :confused:

Here's one. My buddy plays Frost and he has been basically making me blow a gasket with two buttons. D4 and F2. The F2 is a high that is awesomely punishable if l can duck it, but it's completely safe on block (apparently. I don't know what the frame data says but online it feels safe). Then there is the huge range on the D4, and she walks so much faster than Kotal... I'm having issues, lol.
