Because Scorpion feels strongly like the kind of character who's devastatingly powerful the less you know how to counter him, but conversely a lot of what he does is very counter able.

Case and point Sinestro. It seems illogical that Scorpion both goes 5-5 against Sinestro, but can still be seen as top tier because Sinestro can't use so much of his normal tech against Scorp, this is a match-up that Scorp should outright dominate.

I'm sure there is an explanation but if so it's never really layed out beyond people just saying no no he will do well.

People that understand this game understand how good Scorpion is. The great thing about that character is that when he is played right he really shuts down and limits a lot of your free movement.

If i can go even w pl and slaughter other scorpions theres no way its a 2-8 3-7 mu

Sinestro players have to understand that just because you cant shoot fireballs all day doesnt mean a MU is completely un-winnable

Theres these things called footsies and sinestro can play them, also what people fail to realize is sinestro is 1 OF 3 character in this game that doesnt have to put up with JI3 due to his top 3 AA in the game. You cant JI3 on sinestro all day like you can most. Sinestro will eat that for breakfast into a combo and trait charge and when he gets trait then its "To hell with you scorpion"

Im not dare saying scorpion isnt very tough but just because something is very tough doesnt mean its a 2-8 3-7

Ive admitted scorpion is probably sinestro's 3rd or 4th toughest MU but he only has imo 5 at most bad MU but probably more like 4 bad MUs

Ares is really good, being where he is on the list doesnt mean he isnt viable

He is very viable, but he just falls to this # by the process of evaluating everyone else

His resets can be avoided
his tele can be hella punished
Most of mix ups are gimmicks and in time can be defended.

Huh... I can see the gimmicks and I know about his reset getting "normalized." I guess I'm just surprised because it seems like his tool set should allow an Ares player to adapt as his opponent adapts to his tricks.

So Pig, I got to wondering about how low some of these characters (like Ares, for example) got to be on your list, and I wondered if part of it is because you only have one character per tier slot. That fundamentally presupposes that no two characters are essentially equal which, I'm sure we'd all agree, is difficult or impossible to be sure of. If you were to change your tier list to allow multiple characters in the same slot, what might it look like?

Has it ever occurred to you that she is probably the least popular DC character in this game or people simply don't have an interest in her? I mean honestly that is one of the weakest arguments I've ever heard for someone not being good. That's like saying "if John petrucci is one of the best known guitarists, why doesn't everyone listen to his music?" Simply speaking, It's called preference.

Not everyone plays top tier like you do for the sake of playing top tier. Some people play the characters they consider their favorite comic book characters (like me with green lantern and sinestro. Started playing them day one because GL is my fave DC comic) or just play the characters with the most interesting game mechanics such as nightwing and WW with stance changes or how easy a character is to pick up and win with from the start with superman doomsday or batman. They could even pick a character based on the play styles they have in other games. A zoner from mk9 will probably be more interested in zoners in this game. It's a simple concept really...

In case that wasn't enough of a good reason. If I was a tourney player and already played green lantern and heard that killer frost was now regarded as better, I wouldn't switch to her. I'd have to learn new combos, new tech, new frame data, new matchups, new everything and then be comfortable enough to apply all these in a highly competitive setting in a relatively short amount of time. All of this for a character I don't even really like and then I'm expected to main her because she's better? I don't think so, man. Tier lists are speculation and theory just as much as they are based on results, especially early on in a games lifespan.

Har har, it's not based on play experience (or my skill which isn't anything spectacular), it's based on what he has, which is terrible terrible frame data (just a quick way of saying it without having to type several paragraphs). "Nightwolf" also comes to mind.

Don't get me wrong he is going to perform very well for the next while but that's just because no-one will have the match-up experience (as in weeks worth of experience not just a few hundred matches), and he is very good at punishing people who don't know it well enough.
