Guilty Gear -STRIVE-

Bought it, used my free 2 hours on Steam on tutorial missions, my thumb is sore already. I really like the mechanics. Also that dash button....is that a new thing? Amazing idea especially because of my trash D-Pad. I'm still undecided on keep/refund though. Probably because I had bad experience with another 60€ fighting game 2y ago which was dead only a week after release (SamSho).

Dash button is new, yeah. With the way their RC Drifting is designed by inputting dashes this button makes doing it a lot easier, especially for drifting up or down after quick inputs.
With their accessibility strategy it makes sense too for easier air dashing, and players who already have the execution still appreciate having that extra comfort anyways because why not. Regular dashing still exists, but the button also gives cheeky dolphin charging during a back dash, etc.

With a button macro for RC and another for Dash, players can essentially mimic the same idea with MK supers being done by pressing two shoulder buttons, we can do RC drifts in a similar manner (although dash has to be pressed I think at least 1 frame before RC because simultaneous doesn't seem to work).

I think after you play some buttery smooth rollback in an online match after experiencing your first BRC drift upwards to anti air grab someone for the clutch and feel galaxy brained you'll be wanting to probably keep the game.
That said, if you didn't blow your 2 hours on the tutorial it would have gone to the lobby connections... >.>

Game sold 300k copies on PS alone in 2 days and blasted Tekken's and SF's ass in terms of concurrent users after release. The game will obviously drop player numbers rapidly but stay on top the Steam charts for fighting games along Tekken, SF, DragonBall and MK11 easily.

I doubt you'll have trouble finding people to play even 5 years down the line.

Also cross play is coming.

We're about to be able to better support our burgeoning Stive community with an awesome new add-on for TYM. It will allow our MK fans to fully ignore Strive content and vice versa, allowing us to feature much more Strive content without upsetting our long-time NRS fans. It's currently being tested in our testing environment, but I'm hoping to have it on the live site by this time next week. I'll see about getting a full-featured Strive character icon set added to TYM.

Hell yeah, I would love to see this place embrace Strive as we wait for whatever NRS' next move might be.

I could have sworn I saw a frame data display, maybe during one of the missions? I remember thinking it sucks that it only shows startup but not block advantage. Anyone know what I'm talking about or did I hallucinate that? Can't find it anywhere

You know me as RisingShieldBro online.
Strive Is fun af but.. also hard af. The game's neutral is super weird to me and I find myself air dashing in all the time with Ram's normals.

Its almost weird playing a game that demands aggression because I've always been this wall of defense and let my opponent make the mistake first.

Gonna keep grinding though because large swords go bbbrrrr

No frame data counter like in MK11 training unfortunately. Hopefully they add it in at a later date. If you want frame data though the community has done a great job of compiling it on Dustloop. https://www.hkmj.org/abstracts/v23n2/191.htm

There are also hitboxes and hurtboxes available now. https://github.com/AltimorTASDK/strivehitboxes/releases

hey y’all don’t hate me for this:

but IMHO, this feels like the MK11 iteration of Guilty Gear to me: lower combo count, lower gravity, simplified movelists, neutral focus, strike-throw, camera zoom on specific hits, meter regen etc. even the intro and exit sequences remind me of MK. the only difference here is that they GGST retained LEGACY MOVES - while nailing character simplification, allowing the characters to have a more complete toolkit. the game is still very Guilty Gear but there’s some similarity. I might be biased too but hey. imagine a variation-less, run button MK12 lol

it’s impossible to gauge balance at this point but things seem pretty fine for now. I’m excited to see what RC tech pops up in the future.

I'm enjoying the game so far. The slow-motion effect is a bitt too much. I find it somewhat nauseating. Story-mode is kinda boring. I have yet to play an Arc System game where I have finished the story from beginning to end. This is the best looking fighter I have played since mk11. I like the character variety. Currently maiming Potemkin. He feels like a MK2 character to me. Easiest for me to relate to so far.

I decided to keep it too. This is my first non-NRS fighting game that I really got into a bit deeper so everything is new to me but I like everything so far, especially counter hits allowing different combo routes. Online is a lot of fun but I'll need to start labbing soon because unless it's Giovanna mirror I have no idea what's going on.

Nagoriyuki plays this style kinda. He's a hybrid of defense and pressure. I'd think Axl is the closest to a turtle
I love watching good Nago players. They can be very cautious one moment and just EXPLODE the next. His combos can basically go as long as his blood bar holds out. Combine that with meter for RCs and Supers and he has two very powerful resources to use, delete your health bar in an instant.
