Omf I'm stupid. Thanks for correcting me, I was getting really worried that they actually weren't going to release this until a year from now
.
In terms of what I think of this pack...
Manta: Looks really slick, but I'm worried he will be ANOTHER zoning character. He has missiles and a harpoon gun from what we see in the trailer. Still looks cool, hopefully he's got some more interesting stuff than just zoning.
Raiden: I really didn't want this character. A lot of people didn't. And I still standby that statement. Design looks weird, maybe he'll be a little more interesting that Sub Zero (please!)
Hellboy: SUPER excited. I wanted Spawn more but this is just as good imo. I especially like how his design is more cartoonish in comparison to the rest of the cast, since one of my least favorite things about NRS games is their visual style, and Hellboy seems to go against that a bit. Hope he not a zoner, but I find that unlikely anyway.
Conclusion: IMO Manta and He'll it raised the pack up for me, both characters look really interesting and while I might not play both (Hellboy is very likely), I can say that they are welcome additions to the cast. Fuck Raiden. I honestly hate fighters from other fighting games being put into another fighting game. The exception is Akuma in T7 because Tekken plays very differently from SF, so in some ways it's like a whole new character.
Raiden isn't. As different MK and INJ are they still share a lot of obvious similarities. And that's why I don't want Raiden. To me the appeal of guest characters is to take a character from another format or medium (Film, Book, Game, etc.) and adapt them to how they would function in THIS fighting game. But with Raiden and Sub, THEY ALREADY HAVE THEIR OWN FIGHTING GAMES TO BE IN. They don't need to be in two franchises by the SAME developer. Jason, Leatherface, Predator and Alien in MKX IMO were all fine, backsaw none of those characters had been in a modern day fighting game before (I'm not counting Terrordrome). I personally believe MK characters in MK-ish fighting games are the most boring thing NRS could do but whatever.
That's my wall of text for ya. Overall happy with thee pack, Raiden was just really disappointing, like he was for many others.
