LOVE the new skin pack, especially the second option for each that's a shade darker. And although they weirdly give Jade a black mask on the default one, on the second darker version it's thankfully green and that little anal-retentive gnome in my brain is happy haha.
I was never a big fan of the MK2 skin pack (I know it wasn't ever technically issued as a 'pack' but you know what I mean), but appreciated that at the time it seemed like the only old-school skins the ninja girls would get and gave them all a much needed different hair choice. Underbun and thighs were also appreciated for three women who largely had nothing but identical collections of their own bodysuits in all of their wardrobes. But I also liked that I could make them a unified team of 'Kahnum Assassins' as I identically named their variations with these skins.
However these are SO much better, not even anything to do with the sex-appeal of them, just the fact that they were properly reimagined as a classic outfit but in more realistic textural design. The MK2 ones should have been redesigned in this way; leathers, layers, stitching, buckles, weathered texturing, all the things that make the costumes come alive and fit with the rest of the game's world. Comparing the new UMK3 'redux' ones to the MK2 ones, is literally like comparing Kano's story mode thick leather reimagined MK3 outfit next to his hideous MK3-accurate spandex version that was pointlessly given as part of the MK3 skin pack. The 1995 cheap spandex costume looks so cheap and nasty in the game... because it always was in real life (plus such a waste when he already had one so similar and much better in his default array of costumes, should have probably given Sub Zero his one for at least the fact it was so different).
Aside from Sonya's MK3 spandex which is actually wonderful... because it was always literally meant to be spandex aerobics-wear (and for that reason wouldn't decline an MK1 Johnny Cage either), I don't want anymore 100% original trilogy-accurate spandex and lycra outfits ever returning again. The tasteful reimaginings of them, just like Kung Lao's fantastic MK3 skin (and of course what we've just received) are exactly how these retro skins should look. Fun, fantastical and full of nostalgia, but tweaked just enough with some artistic licence to suggest "hey maybe this person would actually wear this?".
