Female designs and lack of variety

I think MK9 was a little over the top with the female models. It was not offensive, it was just cringeworthy having every woman with ridiculously massive boobs and loincloths. It just looked dumb.

I thought MKX was a nice mix - you had the Edenians / D'vorah showing more skin in their different outfits and the Earthrealm army girls were in more military outfits - seemed like a fairly logical approach.

In MK1, there is little diversity. Even the colours of the outfits of Mileena, Kitana and Tanya are all a little bit washed out and insipid looking. The only one that really stands out for me is Ashrah - very strong design direction and she looks fantastic.

As Vslayer said previously, different women like to wear different things, so representing that would be nice.

Just like with Lie Mei and the other ladies, I think there's actually a good design here that's just brought down by adding too much. To elaborate, I like the red and purple cloth part of her outfit, but then they went overboard with the pointless armor everywhere. Particularly on her stomach, she's got shiny gold armor that isn't even practical because it has a giant hole in it. The armor on her thighs and biceps, as well as the gear on her head are also a bit much. Jimmy Neutron hair aside, I think there's a decent costume here, but the artist just didn't know when to stop.

The designs all of them just look off. They all look the same and it’s boring and unsettling. This goes for most of the men designs as well. Veeeeeery disappointed with the animation And character design in this game with a few exceptions.

the women alll look so similar and there is zero variety. Look at sf6 if you want a reference as to how it should be done. Each female character feels and looks different. Marissa, Mannon, Cammy, chun li, etc

Yeah, I pointed this out in my comment on the previous page. You got men in a variety of costumes and the women all look like the next big KPOP group. Literally all wearing the same shit.

I think NRS is on the fence about the female characters showing body, and it's the reason most of them use these skin-tight suits, in a way that they keep showing their silhouettes and body curves, but cover their skin. They really need to not be afraid of diversifying, and my main concerns are with Kitana, Mileena, Sindel and Tanya costumes. A case could be made for the fact they share a position in Outworld royalty, and that could mean they have a certain dress code that puts them in that position for their primary outfit at least.

I do believe Li Mei, Ashrah and Nitara are delivering some diverse design choices, Li Mei's pants not being skin-tight, Nitara's legs being out, Ashrah having those sashes creating a different silhouette too, etc. Hopefully the Outworld royalty alternates can do the same for those girls.

Such is the way of the concept art, always looking MILES better than what we get. lmfao I hate it here. IDK who chooses the final product but they need to be fired. Everything in Cassie's MK11 concept art is better than every shitty outfit they gave her in MK11.

1 is closest to what we got in the game proper. The rest look nothing like Cassie.

Your mind tricks won't harm me!!!
According to rumors on the internet, Mileena and Kitana are said to have new skimpy outfits in mk1. Mileena's outfit is reportedly a reworked version of her attire from Deception while Kitana's outfit is said to be a revamped version of her outfit from MK9.

yep, great stament of yours, I happen to agree with

in the 80's and 90's years there was a motto inside the entertainment industry , and a reality well accepted by overall almost everyone, that "Sex sells" and so, pratically majority of the movie, music and game industry was built under this rule

Not forcing something explicity pornographic, that was not the point, but, in the old times, putting sexy and sensual references and suggestive lust, this was seen as a normal stuff to deal with, and compatible with the lascivous nature of the human being, that , yeah, normally pay for being amused and entertained from the cruel reality of the .... real life, that is tough, boring, cruel, unfair and etc a lot of times

Deny this, even today, is like trying to hide the sun with a net, but, with the woke wave and political intromission, and very dark and evil behaviour control protocols that the goverments and those with power , a lot of power, are trying to input forcely and artificially, of course that any attempt to put, in a natural or organic way, even minor and minimum sexyness and erotic suggestive references in any kind of art, is seen now as totally villanious behaviour, as not part of the current status quo, and as totally offensive to the ultra feminism wave, and all these kind fo shit and annoying new wave, new era, bla bla bla social movements around the ocident society

I admire the Japanese developers, for, sometimes, just give a big "fuck off all of you" middle finger to all this Ocidental woke madness, and so, truly put their original vision in their projects, and go ahead with that for their mangas, games, tv shows, etc
:laughing:Sexual content in entertainment was absolutely not always "natural". It was in many, if not most cases, forced or mandated, with actors often pressured into doing nudity and sex scenes they didn't want unless they had the clout to refuse, a practice that continues to this day.

Fighting games showing women fighting in high heels and thong bikinis wasn't about showing some gritty examination of the human condition, it was about appealing to teenage boys. And it worked for a while, until video game companies realized the market was changing and they didn't need to rely on such tactics all the time.

There’s definitely far more variety with the male characters though. Even body type wise, you have bigger & taller characters like Geras and Shao for instance. You have more unique designs, for example characters like Havik and Reptile. And you have a lot more variety in their skins/outfits. Also you even have some of them going shirtless like Geras.

And yes, there are also male characters that look similar, but most of them are supposed to look similar. Such as Smoke, Sub & Scorpion.

And I know I keep harping on this, but it’s just like for the women, it feels like they’re super limited in how they’re able to express them. And it’s not even just the outfits. They also seem scared to give them pronounced curves and just different body types in general. Seriously, every female character in MK1 has pretty much the exact same body type. Like 5’5” or so, skinny, and with pretty much the same butt and breast sizes. I know once you start talking about the butt & breast sizes that’s when people lose their minds, but it’s true. If their goal is to make the women in MK games appear more “realistic”, wouldn’t you reflect that in the body types? And I’m not necessarily saying make the characters “fat”, but just making them a bit more curvy and less like a stick. And to clarify, I’m not saying every female character has to have a different body type, not at all. The issue is they all have the exact same one and all seem to overall have a shortage of uniqueness and personality in their lack of an aesthetically pleasing appearance.

I'm hoping (but not holding my breath) that we'll get some more down-to-earth costumes for the ladies similar to Raiden, Kung-Lao, Johnny, and Kenshi.
The characters already looking boring as fuck and you want NRS to give them even more bland designs like Raiden's?

The "we want to make women realistic" is just a cop-out and a lazy excuse so they don't anger the resetera crowds and to not admit they can't design more interesting characters
It's also hilarious to stick with the realism reasoning when literally everything about Mortal Kombat is unrealistic - the setting, the realms, the plot, the character powers, the violence, none of that is grounded in reality, this isn't the 90s anymore
