Ppl traveled for those NRS games because the power levels were massive. Yes, we complained about it, but we STILL traveled for them. Bring back high power levels and ppl will travel again. Will they still complain? Yes.. but at least they’ll travel
I'm going to have to disagree with you here, sir.

This isn't DragonBall Z and I don't personally believe this talk about "Power Levels."

The most popular game in the competitive scene revolves primarily around Strike/throw mix ups and throw loops.

And I also don't agree about "Power Levels" being low in MK1.

Nitara can take half of your Lifebar off of one wrong guess and a bar.

Sub Zero has several true 50/50s off strings with Khameleon.

Homelander vortexes you to death.

Havik can take 40% and then potentially ToD you off an unblockable attack.

You have basically every character in the game able to launch off of normal grabs with the right Kameo.

You have guaranteed launches off grab attempts in the corner.

You have resets. 50/50s, basically everything powerful that you could ask for.

And when you want to, "return to power levels"

Are you asking for Gameplay like this:

Or perhaps this:

There is nothing wrong with the, "Power Levels" in MK1.

If you read this whole thread, you will come away with not having any idea with what the issues of Mortal Kombat currently are except for not enough money. Not enough money is far from the main issue yet there is no way to read this thread and pinpoint what people think the issues actually are. There is just so much division and people just can’t seem to be able to agree on what the issue really are. Overall, I’d say the main issue is the majority of players don’t like the game, not saying that everyone doesn’t like it, but it seems at least the vocal majority do not. Something obviously needs to get done, some form of change is needed

The game already changed quite a bit with Khaos Reigns and if the trend continues, NRS will continue adding more features in each update.

Other than adding a sizeable Pro Tour, that's all they can do. Keep adding to the game and improving it with every patch.

Obviously, both the rage drive and heat system have flaws and unintended consequences, but they are superior to the kameo system in terms of balance, skill, and fun.
This isn’t saying much though, lol. But most know my thoughts on the Kameo system, hence my “MK1 is Not Your Father’s Assist Fighter” thread that points out most of the flaws with it.

And I was referring to your lack of criticisms of the games on here, not somewhere else that no one here can see unless they were on those platforms. To be clear, I am not suggesting you haven’t criticized the games on here. But the glaze to criticize ratio is like 20:1 lol. So yeah, as I said, it makes complete sense logically why someone would bring up the fact that these games that you are constantly comparing to MK1 aren’t perfect. Regardless if you have stated they are or not, it’s the impression you give when you constantly are comparing them as superior to MK1 (which they are of course, but that’s not the point)

You seem to be arguing for the sake of arguing although you and I agree on this topic 90% of the time.

By your own admission, Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 are superior to Mortal Kombat 1.

By your own admission, I have criticized Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8 on this forum.

By your own admission, I have never stated that either game is perfect, so the glaze to critique ratio is not 20:1.

On another note, Tom and I are thinking about recording another episode of the podcast.

We cordially invite everyone, especially you, @CrimsonShadow , and @Vulgar as guests.

If you are interested, please let us know.

I honestly know nothing about the anime scene. Do their games get pro-tours or monetary support that comes from outside their community?
I don't think they get pro tours, but they get everything else with a more solid community than other games. A lot of events are easily community funded and they usually get support from the developer/publisher of the game. Like Arc Sys habitually funds eSporting events so between crowd funding and the games publishers supporting their events, not only do they not need pro tours, they'll always have events running and money in rotation without many Ls in comparison to Ws. Their community also is super helpful and don't whine and complain as much as others. I was heavily involved in the P4A community for a few years and I wish I could go back in time and do it again. Never experienced anything like it. So yeah. Just dope devs and publishers, a community(s) that support their games instead of bashing them, crowd funding for the love of the game, the anime community is peak. Best community imo next to like SCV back then.

Wow! That's really kind, but I'm afraid I must decline.

That's the best possible case, it seems. They might have had a summer intern scraping social media and YouTube for potential changes to collate into a master doc, but is anyone at the company going to see it? None of the issues in MK1 are esoteric, the game just needed to work, and the impression it gave on release is that leadership at the company didn't care if it did.

Woollie is a famous FGC personality, and he says all modern fighting games have to do to be successful is "work." But in his estimation very few do. He's not even an MK fan, but MK1 is a case in point of game that briefly stopped working because of desyncs, or had player 1 advantage, terrible match making system for the first year that required multiple revisions and patches etc

When I sit down over the weekend to play fighting games, I always do MK first because the lack of matchmaking from practice rooms is VERY ANNOYING once I've gotten use to Tekken 8/Marvel Vs Capcom Collection matchmaking. It is comparing fast food service with fine dining service haha. MK's gameplay is very salty, and tasty however, so I keep queuing up for that slop lol
Have not heard of woolie but idk about that statment of fgs just need to work to be succsesfull.

Seems like a rather low bar to be set.
Theres much more to it then "just working" in the modern age. Especially when you consider the long lasting legacy some of these fighting games have, spaning over 30 years.

It's meant to be sardonic like at least they should work. Often you end up with broken net code, or broken match making. Hopefully those days are over

This podcast does not engage in serious discussion. I’d much rather spend the time with people who want to build up young players, promote the events that some in our community are working hard to run, and do constructive things, than with people who just want to tear stuff down for clicks and to prop up their own egos.

This is why I left, and there’s no reason to come back.

Tom and I have our own interpretation as to why you left the podcast.

Nonetheless, another friendly offer has been made to the individuals who believe that we are fair to Mortal Kombat 1.
