Captain Cold General Discussion Thread

I know this sounds gimmicky but something that has been catching people off guard is that I do F23 then tap trait and immediately go into F23 again, it'll catch them pressing a button sometimes. You can tap trait and neutral jump punch if they try to whiff punish. Tapping trait makes him look as if he's charging the gun but he only looks for a split second. Catches a lot of people off guard
Yeah he can get out of it surprisingly quick.

I think that was its intended purpose. Kind of a mind game behind it.

What have you guys been spending your trait on?
He becomes a whole different character with lvl 2 trait, especially in the corner. Lvl 3 can be useful but its not as good as lvl 2 imo. Lvl 1 is great to end rounds.

Huh. I haven't found a way to implement 3 into my gameplay. I find myself wasting 3 of the bars on my ice armor every chance I get when they work their way in.

anyone having success with captain cold? just cant seem to get anything going with him. his real good stuff seems dependent on level 2/3 trait which is difficult to get

Great success. I use ice armor every chance I get. He struggles against Ivy. I open up by whiff punishing with F23 and spacing with puddle and ice block.

What are the best ways you guys are incorporating level 2 trait mid screen? Both in charging and in usage?

Charging there's a ton of ways. If you just press 4 instead of hold it you can recover almost instantly. This catches people off guard and you can basically use it as a bait. It also allows you to use it in combos off of AAs or during regular 1 bar combos. And if you really need trait you can just end a combo in b232 or charge a full bar after MB Freeze (and if you learn the timing you can charge and then still get free pressure when they unfreeze).

You can essentially use it whenever, but its probably best used to extend combos for more damage/corner carry or after b232 since they'll be stuck. Once they're stuck in the ice field you can stay in AA range and chuck projectiles or you can go in and abuse the slowdown for much better pressure. If they're smart they'll probably just backdash out of the field, so if you have meter it can be pretty dirty to use EX far icicle and then trait, which means they essentially have to come to you.

That's just week one stuff obviously. Sky's the limit with his trait and Its very likely people will come up with more optimal stuff down the road.

What would you guys classify Captain Cold as? How should I be playing Captain Cold exactly? I barely touched him, but I'm interested in picking him up. I Just need to find a gameplan to go by.

I would classify him as a setup/trap character with good space control.

Thanks man!!! That was tremendously helpful.

There has been a few times ive been charging the trait and the dash cancel will go though projectiles. Obviously against someone like deadshot its probably not a big deal but ill play with it a little in training.

Edit: Its just the normal backdash that has invulnerability frames.

Reminds me of Sinestro and his trait charge feints.

In fact, that's honestly what Cold has reminded me most of. I can use a lot of my zoning and space control strategies for Sinestro with Cold.

Doesn't make up for him being gone, but it's nice to see that knowledge living on.

Been trying to pick up the character and have been having a hard time. Does anyone have any footage of playing him? That way I could get a baseline idea of what to do with the character.

I'm not surprised, motherfuckers
122 would be great if it had a bit more range. the mixup of 12 and 1db3 would be great if you could actually reach your opponent lol.

Wasnt there a move shown on the watch tower stream that allowed Captain Cold to extend his jumps? was that removed?

Any tips on deadshot. I can get in but only after half my life is gone in chip. And captain cold doesn't seem to have much of an answer against deadshots low overhead combo. Even if I block it correctly it allows him to back away even further while shooting

On an unrelated note, I'm just going to stay here in the CC forums. You guys aren't crazy... yet.

Why's that, if you don't mind me asking?
been struggling with the range of some of his normals, and without level 2 trait its difficult to get any sort of significant offense going. Maybe im just approaching match ups wrong and am down on him tonight haha. I'll revisit him in a couple of days probably

It feels like Captain Cold is just bad. His normals are okay but he really gets nothing from them it feels like. Anyone want to play some if you're a good captain cold?

PS4? I think my captain is pretty good, imo. Hiyomoto if you're on PS4
