BREAKING: Erron Black (and others) supposedly Leaked on Reddit

'ello baby, did you miss me?
just remember guys, NRS deserved the leaks. They never show us anything, ever.
Well here's a question for you, and I mean this sincerely. What was the upside to showing the story trailer + revealing Cassie/Kotal/Erron/Jacqui/Cetrion/Frost + showing Kano and Cassie trailer and gameplay + showing Johnny/Kano/Cassie customization ALL ON THE SAME DAY?

We had an entire week where we had nothing but Mobile Stream. Why not show Kano that week, and Cassie this week? What did they win by it? All they got was a ton of extra bitching, while losing out on a week's worth of character reveal hype. They released so much footage yesterday that people will inevitably miss out on some because there's too much to sift through. They're not winning views by doing this, they're losing them.

Forget fan entitlement. I'm just trying to understand the marketing strategy, because it seems objectively poorer than other options they had available to them.

So, since the story trailer dropped I kind of have a bit of a different view on this. The reason it was so exciting for me, was not only because they showed Cassie, it's because I had no idea how she looked and played. Sure, it was a sensory overload but it was amazing.

So I mean, I don't mind leaks, but I guess I don't want them if they are about my faves.

Who says they did this because of the leaks? I'm glad they showed 2 characters. 2 a week is pretty good and makes more sense than MAYBE one a week.

Don't know if you guys saw this, but Ed was takking about creating fatalities on the channel noclip on youtube. Explaining the process to create one fatality. During that conversation he states: "now you know what goes into one fatality. Now do that times 50." Now either its a random nr... or... he means 2 fatalities x 25 characters. Meaning the base roster is very likely 25.

Don't get me wrong, i'd still like more. But just being realistic.

Erm... I think you misunderstood me.

I'm saying that NRS's strategy of "give them a couple of breadcrumbs every week and then dump a bakery on them in week 8" is really counter-productive. If they had spaced yesterday's reveals out over several weeks, each individual reveal would have received more attention and allowed them to dominate more news cycles. I'm saying their marketing wasn't just bad for us, it was bad for them too.

I'm 100% that the base roster is 25, including Shao Kahn, and people are setting themselves up for massive disappointment.

Mileena fans on gamefaqs are already talking about her move list and skins like she's already confirmed. It's going to be frustrating to see them blame NRS for their own naivety.

It's very possible that he was rounding down. 50 is a nice round ambiguous figure. If he said "do that 52 times" or "54 times" he'd know he'd be giving the roster away for sure.

Having said that, I think it's always best to expect only what you've seen. I'm definitely still *hoping* for Shang given all the contextual hints, but I'm not expecting him.

The way I see it, its not for you or I to "understand". NRS understands, which is really all that matters, because it works. If not, how is it supposed to work then? Why are we here discussing it if not for successful marketing?

No one said NRS's marketing is unsuccessful. Of course it's "successful." But that's an incredibly low bar to clear when the product you're selling is as good as MK11 and does 99% of your marketing for you. They could have literally fired their entire marketing department after Reveal Day, and still sold millions of copies in April, because the game looked that god damn good, and their track record is that god damn good, and word of mouth on April 23 will be that god damn good.

The question was always: are they making the best possible decisions with the pacing of the character reveals/trailers/gameplay breakdowns that they give us? And the answer is very obviously no, IMO. I feel more justified in thinking that after yesterday, than I did before. There is absolutely no good reason to splurge everything in one single day. It results in a lot of the stuff that came out yesterday actually going unnoticed, because there's too much to sift through and keep up with.

Yep. People are going to be mad but it isn't NRS fault. I'm starting to make peace with the roster.

I understand the disappointment some ppl have, as everyone always likes to see their favorites in. But I actually really like the roster so far. None of the characters seem boring or uninspired. Even the characters that I wouldn't be surprised to be boring look interesting now. Can't wait to see what they've done with the rest of the cast.

Yeah I definitely feel the same way. As of now I actually want to play everyone lol. I hate having a character crisis.

I think the base roster, when you turn on the game, will be 24-25 (depending on if Shao Kahn or a "?" is the 25th slot), but there will be 8 unlockable characters, which include Reptile, Smoke, Mileena, Shang Tsung (though he may be the 24-25th of the base instead of Shao Kahn), . . . . which would mean that every character from MK1 and MK2 would be in it (minus the 2 Shokan)

also Rain will be one of the unlockables (hinted from menu art), which leaves 3 left of which i think one is new, one is Sindel (since all the other fightable npcs from MKX got in). The last one i think is someone from the 3D era

but this is just my prediction

EDIT: Or if they arn't unlockables, the base roster is just bigger and NRS is just hiding that fact from us atm. (see 2 posts below for my opinions why.)

All of that sounds great and all. But what are you basing that on? Unless you have some kind of special knowledge or leak that I'm (we're?) unaware of, I see a 0% chance of any of that happening.

Lets look at their history starting at MK9. MK9 had two unlockable characters that they didn't announce, so 25 characters and 2 unlockable makes 27. Injustice 1 had no unlockable characters, but started with 24 characters. MKX had Shinnok as an unlockable character as a part of the... Yep... 24 initial characters. And Injustice 2 had none again but started with 28. So unless you're counting the midway days, they've never done more than two unlockable characters in their history and pretty much always started at around 25 maxing out at 28 for injustice 2. So the idea that they would do 8 unlockable characters on top of the 25 initial ones is kind of ridiculous if I'm honest. We'd be very lucky to get one or two secret ones on top of the 25... But I still think it'll be 25. Especially seeing how much work each character is with all the gear, intros, outros and everything.

I just think that the leaked image of the character select is all base game slots(with one being shao kahn and the other being the random select slot). I really doubt they have slots for DLC, for the testers to mess with when they dont even have images fully there yet.

I also think the current 25 slots doesnt look right with the gold ring behind it atm, the top slots clip it, but nothing else does. Which to me would seem really bad from a UI design, where as the 34 box set up, all clips the gold ring at the same consistency all around, with room to add for DLC even.

The 8 people/slots i listed may not be unlockable per say, but are hidden from us atm on purpose. So maybe there will be less unlockables on release to keep in with NRS standards, but the base roster will be bigger then the 25 and is actually 32 with the added people i said, is what i predict.

Again this is just my prediction, and until the game comes out (or more leaks lol) nobody knows for sure what the real outcome will be. But I mean what else am i suppose to do, sit here and NOT speculate things we dont know fully about MK11, pfft ya okay.

Kombat pack 1 is 6 slots, there were 8-9 blank slots

We have likely 2-3 unlockable characters (Leaks being Mileena, Shang, and Shinnok)

I know people are gonna deny it, But Rain aint coming back. Ed Hates him, along with Drahmin and other 3d characters.

I wish you are right, but it's not gonna happen unfortunately. Of course it's the comment to Zev's post ;)

imo, the only way we are seeing a good chunk of 3d characters return is if the next MK game is focused on a chaos realm and order realm conflict, with the other realms caught in the middle of it

Err... I can't speak to Garnet, but Geras is very obviously black. Black is not the same thing as "of African descent." Raiden is white, Kronika is white, Geras is black. Pretty straight forward. Doesn't matter if they're gods or golems or aliens.
I get what you're saying.

I remember one of the leakers saying that Frost plays more like a cyborg (I think they mentioned Cyber Smoke). @SinkFla is this another "Kollector is a cyborg" moment? Her arms in the story trailer don't exactly look human.
