so while watching maxamilian? on youtube he stated there is a way to shut down grundys super and said it was very easy. anyone know what that may be. if people can shut down his super and wcg he is going to be very tough to win with.
characters with fantastic d+1's used to be able to spam d+1 and constantly stun lock grundy from being able to use his super since every time he gets hit he has to attempt to use the grab again. However with this latest patch, grundy got a buff! he can now block while using super so you just block until the d+1's push you outside of their range and try to whiff punish or catch the escape. Still, clashable pain chain hurts a lot since Grundy gives the opponent so much meter for landing a pain chain (1st hit, follow ups, seriously look at that shit) in the first place. When I play, I pretty much assume the opponent has 230% health.

For realzies? I've been playing Grundy for quite some time but maybe I never figured that out since there wasn't a lot of incentive to ever use it. I recall taking reduced damage but never being able to block. thank you for keeping me in check.

yeah because i remember blocking counter supers and losing mine as soon as I blocked them :(
 
I've never had such a crap gaming experience as playing Grundy. I thought he'd be fun, but EVERY opponent just runs away and spams their zoning crap making it impossible to get in. Even WC can't get through (if you cancel it you just get hit anyway). It's impossible to land swamp hands MB as a result because they are always jumping.

NRS has really dropped the ball with the design of this game. They made a character so powerful at close range that he has to spam cheap moves to get in against characters overloaded with zoning crap. Terrible.
 
Seriously bro is this your first fighting game? Because if you honestly picked up a grappler and didn't expect to get zoned out I honestly don't know what to tell you. If it really bothers you so much that people run away and "spam projectiles" I doubt grapplers are for you.

i've no idea what this means. Solomon Grundy doesn't exist in any other fighting game, nor does any other game play like this (even MK), so what does it matter?

The problem in this game is the ridiculous intensity of zoning. Did Nightwing, for example, really need batarangs AND shock charge? Really?

The game is designed in such a way that 90% of a character's moves are shut down easily. What use are half his moves entirely when they are no use at any kind of range? WC whiffs badly and is easily punished given that many characters can abuse the size of the maps or even stay airborne and attack. SH is shut down by people repeatedly jumping but are too far away to make use of Grundy's AA moves.

Consequently the game jsut becomes a tedious exercise in trying to do one thing: reach your opponent. There's zero interaction. I expected Grundy to be more enjoyable than this.
 

I didn't say grundy I said grappler, grundy falls into a character archetype referred to as a grappler, zangief(SF 4), potemkin(Guilty gear) and haggar(UMVC 3) fall into this archetype. All the things you are complaining about are things every grappler has to deal with, but unlike most grapplers grundy has a tracking projectile that can be MB to give him a command grab from full screen, he also has a grab that not only gives him 3 hits of armor, is cancellable so you never have to whiff it.

His swamp hands give him interaction with the opponent from full screen since he can check a lot of characters and keep them honest. Even a blocked swamp hands allows him to cover some distance.

But your obviously having issues playing the character, maybe this archetype just isn't for you.

Interactions help with those zoners.

I think he meant there's zero interaction with the opponent.
 
what mixup?

All that happens on wakeup is they use a move that has invincibility frames or is quicker and you get hit trying to beat them to the punch. Consequently i always wait and try and block.

For his Oki game, have you guys tried b1 xx MB hands?
Do it after a hard KD, like his AA throw, d13, d3, MB WC because the start up is too slow... u can get poked out of it.

I don't know whether I should have put this here, or in the Match-up discussions thread, so I might put it in both.. It's a weird hitbox issue I found using Grundy's AA Grab against Shazam's B2,3 string. The String cause's Shazam to become airborne, but will sometimes interrupt the AA Grab even if it hits. Does anyone know a list of strings that cause the attacker to become airborne? Might need to do some more testing with other AA grabs. Here is the video I recorded showing it.
 
What are the results of the Grundy players at UFGT9?
Did anyone use him?

Didn't see any on stream, a little disappointed, I thought by now there'd at least be one notable person running him. The fact that superman(one of the most popular characters in the game) is such an ugly match-up for grundy probably doesn't help much either.
