Alright guys. As much as I dislike the new addition of Scorpion as DLC, I know barely anything about him since I hardly played Mortal Kombat. What's the best strategy to take him down? He seems very fast and his teleport seems like a bitch to deal with, but like I said, I haven't played MK much so he could be easier than I think. I feel like Escrima stance is going to be essential to beat him. What do you guys suggest?
Although he has almost the same special moves and strings, the frame data is different and his game is different from MK9.
The combo's can somewhat stay the same, but his mix-up game is totally different.
In MK9 the teleport used to track you in the air as well, now only the normal version tracks you while the MB'ed version stays grounded.
His mix-up game came from a vortex that had lows and overheads, normal spear allowed him to reset you and if you guessed correctly you could punish him.
Now it's more about cross-ups with his teleport, I'm telling you that people will get caught offguard a lot. His teleport is much faster in the air, it doesn't hit overhead so you can block it low, but compared to jump-ins suddenly changing to a teleport will annoy the shit out of you.
He has 2 pokes(old D1 and D3) and 2 sweeps(regular sweep and his old D4). His sweeps are negative on block, while the other one can be canceled(hits mid though).
1 of his poke hits mid while the other one hits low, his low is 0 on block. Forgot about his mid-hitting one.
He has strings that are + on block, but he has a hard time doing something with them mid-screen. You'll be able to dash back before his slow ranged normals will hit.
A grounded mix-up he has is with 2. He can cancel it into U3(hits overhead and can be canceled into teleport or spear for combo), Teleport(MB to combo of it, is a cross-up) and Slide(no MB, punishable on block). So blocking will pretty much be holding back or down, you can block the Teleport and Slide by holding Down.
I don't think you'll be wanting to fight this MU in Staff Stance, Scorpion can burn you all day with his hellfire from what I can theorize in my head. His hellfire is unblockable and can be avoided by jumping or fast advancing moves(like Grayson Kick). Also he can use his Teleport MB to get in since it's +9 on block and you are slow as hell in Staff Stance.
To punish his regular Teleport you just keep blocking, to punish his Teleport MB you NJ. If you guess wrong he can either get a combo or +9 on block. He has a vortex that he can do with Spear MB or Trait, both leave you standing. He has his low and overhead options then, some are unsafe while he can be safe as well.
We'll only know what to do after really fighting a good Scorpion, this is looking like a tough MU from what I can tell.
Again, this is just theory and a little labtime with Scorpion.
