We didn't even know the full roster of MK9 until the game was in someone's hand IIRC. If people know of the game but don't wanna get it until they know the full roster then they can just buy the game a week later. The internet and recent wave of media/gaming has made us incredibly spoiled when it comes to knowing everything a game has to offer as, back in the day, we didn't know even ha;f the roster sometimes before a game came out. Even unlocking characters is frowned upon now-a-days which was a standard back then.
That's a terrible marketing strategy though. "Oh, you'll know all the features and characters when the game is out". Regardless if you think the internet or technology has made us "spoiled", that doesn't mean you can just do it "old school" and expect that to work, example: Blockbuster. You have to change and evolve with the times if you want to be successful, especially when it comes to something related to technology.

And unlocking characters via in game is frowned upon by the tournament players because it usually takes a long time to do, and it's saved to the hard drive. Meaning unless that specific console has unlocked that character, you're going to have to manually do it at tournaments, which is incredibly time consuming.

I don't think so, we know, like, 80 percent of the characters, modes and features. I'm not saying we should get 15 percent and then know the rest when we get the game, but we know a ton of stuff about the game already and will only know more in the coming weeks, we don't need it ALL. If people are really complaining about not knowing that last 20 percent then I believe that's spoiled. No offense to you or anyone that thinks this way but it's hardly a reason to complain at this point.

Mark consoles with taped paper, it can't be that hard: These five are for Injustice, these five are for Marvel, etc... I've seen it before and it hardly messes with the tournament.

There's no reason we shouldn't at LEAST know all the characters, I can't believe someone is even arguing that, LOL.

I can argue it as getting the game and having it be a surprise is sometimes more fun than just knowing that they're in the game. If I got the game and found out Zod was in it I'd fanboy-out but if they announce him I'd just say "niiiiice, Zod, pretty hype".

Honestly, I feel like if they just announced MMH for you you wouldn't care if they left the last 6 or so unannounced lol.

They could let us know how many characters there are at the very least. The last they said about the roster number was when Hector confirmed that the current character select screen was a decoy and that the revealed roster of 12 at the time wasn't even half the characters. All we know is that there is more than 24.

On the one hand, I agree with you. On the other hand...knowing all the characters would make me even more impatient for the game than I already am.

This is fine, if they say "there's 30 characters" but don't announce them I'd agree. At the same time, playing through the story mode and getting more and more character until you eventually get the 30 would be fine to me as well.

.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
great news !! so , Doomsday will be my second option character ..... wise decision to make him playable, since a lot of people enjoy him way more than Superman, and this match will be possible to play in IGAU !

Hope we have chance to see some gameplay footage from him, before the game come out in April ....

I would take a better understanding of the gameplay mechanics over character reveals
So would I, but that's speaking as a competitive/high level player, a lot of people, the majority in fact, don't care as much about the gameplay mechanics as they do which characters they're going to be able to use. I would love a complete tutorial on the gameplay mechanics, but that kind of thing, for me, is more fun experiencing first hand when I actually have the game. There's no reason the roster should be a surprise after you have the game, at least IMO.

I hope that when the goal for Doomsday is reached legitimately that Gamestop will post a video for him, or some screenshots at the very least. Just something more than "Doomsday is in, now fuck off.".

So you'd rather the mechanics be a surprise than the roster? That's just weird to me dude.
I'd rather learn the game for myself, that's the most fun part about new fighting games. Learning the ins and outs first hand while everyone is learning it at the same time along with me. Of course, the basic gameplay elements should be known, and to my knowledge, they are known. But the more in depth, high level stuff, I don't need to know that before I get the game because I honestly don't expect developers to go into detail about that. 99% of their demographic aren't going to care about that, so it's unreasonable to expect they would promote in depth gameplay videos, at least pre-release.

You still learn the game even if they give you a tutorial of the basic stuff. Hell, we're still learning stuff in MK and the last patch was over a year old. They could show you every string, special, normal and super for a character and you'd still be learning the ins and outs of that character once you get the game. There's no way to tell the "high level" stuff off the bat or we wouldn't have the resets of Cyrax/Smoke.

They did the specials, supers and some combos for every character for P4A before it came out and the game plays on a completely different level than the beginning of the game/what was shown.

What does that have to do with what I said?

You said you want to learn the game yourself so you don't wanna know the "in depth gameplay" and such, I'm saying that no matter how much they show you'll still be learning the game yourself as there's a ton of stuff to learn.

It's just a differing a opinions here, I personally don't think we need to know the last 6 or so characters but others do.

It feels better to learn a game from scratch than from a ton of reveals of how the game works. I would also rather have more character reveals, because then we will know who we are going to start looking at. I think they've revealed quite a few significant parts of gameplay, now they need to focus on roster.

I agree on that, I don't want the full cast that's like the ultimate hype/nerd moment for a fighting game is popping it in and seeing characters that you didn't expect/think to be in. I'll take 2 more reveals and that's all I need honestly.

But most of the roster is out there and there's probably a couple more to come. Again, is 4/5ths of the roster not enough of a revealed roster?

Uhhhhhh no. Every game has the full revealed roster before release(sans secret characters) and that is done for a reason. Every character revealed is another possible large number of consumers. Every gameplay reveal is going to net them a lot less consumers. From a business standpoint characters would definitely be more beneficial.
