What's new

What? No one cares about how Melee made it to EVO this year?

Who brought up PDP? PDP was free as fuck compared to now-a-days. I remember Trophy Club droppin' high level Cyrax tech. jip, command grab lolbombtrap 22 xx combo. So stupid.

Dat LI Joe character swap was hype though, same with NickDaMan or whatever

At least there is more than 1 character that can do that. How many characters in MK can do Cyrax-like shit ? I like how people only hook up on 100% combos and pathetically try to defend MK . Nothing makes MK more of a fighter than UMVC3 or any other game. In fact, MK9 is more of a tits and blood fest than a fighter.

Words of a true scrub.
Stop fuckin crying and go back to your kiddy game kid...Fuck are you even on this site for lil boy?

UMvC3 is probably the most broken game out in tournaments right now, people just like it because it's hype. Don't get me wrong it's a fun game, but calling that game balanced and fair means you're just mindlessly defending the game and don't even know the bullshit that lies within it.

As a Melee player who migrated to MK on MK9's release (I was riding the hype train because UMK3 is one of my favorite games of all time), the lack of respect for SSBM among some players in the MK community astounds me, and I feel like it just boils down to ignorance. Melee has not only been at EVO, but was an MLG staple for years when fighting games were considered all but dead. Players like KillaOR were featured on MTV's "true life: I'm a professional gamer", and Ken put himself through college based on the massive income he made at the various high level melee tournaments because the game is THAT GOD DAMN BIG (he was later cast on "Survivor" due to his fame in the community). Smashboards.com is one of the largest and comprehensive communities for any game, period, and has in-depth guides that put most others to shame. They did this alone, before SF4 or MK9 or anything else that "resurrected the fighting game genre" and made communities like this one possible.

Yet people on this site, and others, question the credentials of the Melee community. 8 years after game release the "Revival of Melee" tournaments began and have consistently had around 150 players competing each year since (136, 172, 168, 120). Hundreds of other tournaments have large turnouts as well all over the world. I'd love to (and I'm being serious here, I really would) see other games today create this kind of legacy.

Or is it maybe that the game plays too differently? The buttons seem too simplistic? Anyone who's played both games can tell you that the tech skill and reads required to play SSBM put other fighters to shame. Someone mentioned it before: the tech skill required to play ANY character in melee at a competitive level makes Kabal look like a joke. I don't think that tech skill makes a better game, but melee has a depth to it unrivaled by pretty much anything I can think of.

I love both games and I know that they will both be hype at EVO. Don't turn this community into one of prejudice against other fighting games. Saying "Melee isn't a fighting game because you have to turn items off and there is no 100-0 health bar" is comparable to saying "Mortal Kombat isn't a fighting game because you have a block button and stages matter".

I have the feeling this hate towards this game mostly comes from new members. As i also see them make hate posts like in this thread.
Im really happy for this game to make it to evo. I rember when i played halo 1 the game was also being played in mlg. I never picked it up because i never had bought a nintendo console but im pretty sure i would have loved it.

Lol Tim Static openly hates on this game and he's a TYM veteran.
I don't see how anyone could hate on this game, it's fun on all levels of depth

I didn't even say in my post MvC was balanced, maybe you should improve your reading skills before going autopilot "you said shit about MK, how dare you, now I will shit on the game you like" mode. But I consider it much more balanced than MK9. I know exactly what lies within that game. One thing is when lots of characters can do ToD. The other thing is when some nigga wearing yellow suit rapes entire cast with it. How can you call MvC broken when almost everyone has a possibility to ToD ? Everyone has equal chance to kill of a character. Not just 1 character !!! Now of course there are tiers, meaning some characters are still better than others despite them being able to finish off each other in 1 combo. Now UMVC3 is the game where you have 3 characters, not 1, and things like assists, snapbacks, etc... MK9 has tag, and doesn't it also have 100 % combos in this mode ? Youtube is overflowing with some broken shit from this game. So don't call MvC broken while MK is broken as hell. And my point wasn't even that, some people say that tits, gore, blood make MK more of a fighter than other games. Are you freaking serious ? UMvC3 is a kiddy game like ScrubInsanity says ? Well how about thousands of people who are adults and play that game ? How about sites like Comicvine where grown up men tear each other off in "Character A vs Character B" threads ? I have been an MK fan since childhood , always loved it and played almost every game dozens of time, and I didn't get why communities from other FG have been saying not good things about MK community. Now I see why. Some people are so blind that they will bash other FG whenever a person says TRUTH about MK. This is really sad to see.

Stop talking before you make a fool out of yourself. You seem to be the only one constantly ripping MK and Netherrealm Studios since you got in here and it's getting real old.

Thank god it was Melee and not Brawl, that game doesn't deserve any love.

Any Marvel player will tell you the game is hella broken lol. King is actually right on that one. It's becoming less random at the top level, though.
It was never random in the first place, even early on the game was consistent, that's just an excuse for losing. The way I see it, you are in control of your character and you CHOOSE to put yourself any situation that happens, if it doesn't work out for you then it's simply your own fault and you can't blame the game for your mistakes. I will admit the risk/reward is kinda fucked up in the game but not enough to make it truly random though

Well, you can play as Sonic in brawl, so put that in your pipe and smoke it all day long.

When referring to random I think everyone is saying stuff like how characters pop out of the wrong side of the screen after a snap back or character drop; it's supposed to keep you from pressuring too much I guess, but it doesn't work right all the time.
Or the weird roll things that happen during some otgs

Marvel early on was really bad in terms of consistency, compared to now. Now that people learned to deal with a lot of stuff, placing consistency is becoming way more concrete.

When you kill or snap back a character, what direction they come in is in the opposite of your characters position vs where their character died or got snapped back from. For example: If they get KO'd and you are to the right of the corpse, the opponent's character will come in on the left side and vice versa.

And it definitely was consistent early on when the same top players were placing high in almost every major.

You've never had a character pop in from behind you even though you never switched sides with their body?
