What? No one cares about how Melee made it to EVO this year?

I played Melee back when it first came out. Before I gave it up for good, I played it every day at a nearly constant rate. But I never knew of such a thing called tournament scenes for competitive games...I'd have gone and played in those otherwise.

Now, to see it make the biggest fighting game tournament ever, twelve years after its release - that's a pretty huge triumph for their community. You gotta give them mad respect for that. Honestly I almost want to pick up Melee again and play it at a competitive level...shame I don't have a Nintendo Wii anymore. :(

Best of luck to the Smash supporters. I'll be watching for sure.

Oh, I forgot that no characters in Marvel vs Capcom have infinites and that the game is perfectly balanced. Nobody in MvC has combos that you can loop over and over or anything, everything about that game is fair.

That's the Top 8. PL and Michelangelo are both MK players.

I have no idea who Trophy Club and Ike S. are or what they play.

Remember that now we have more MK players and MK has grown. Capcom Games used to have a huge player base advantage but now that gap has shortened. They're still obviously bigger, but we kan hold our own.

Anyway, the point is that it's not just Capcom Players that kould be Top. Top players from Tekken, MK, Soul Calibur, etc, kan all prove themselves to be better. There wasn't a single side that dominated MK. It wasn't like Capcom players completely overthrew us in the beginning.

Those people are all lucky I was only 17 at the time and didn't travel to tournaments back in the day

Tbh, Tim, while I'm not trying to rustle anyone's jimmies, as a community that was looked down by other fgcs for some time, it seems a little ludicrous to call Smash a "non-fighter". It's as much as a fighting game as any other game and it is quite technical. I'm quite happy that Melee made the cut and its community has supported it thus far.

That's just my two cents, though. It also gives us more variety at Evo. :)

I really wanted SG to win, that game deserves more attention then smash, but kudos to them for winning anyway.

All I have to say is congrats to the Smash community. I don't know nor do I care about the stuff that I hear happened before the donation drive was over. The fact is that Smash is just another game that will get some big time stream time at the main stage at Evo and I'm sure that their community will show up to play. From what I hear, Apex is supposed to be the end all be all tourney for the Smash games. But I'm sure a lot of their players would love to come out and win at Evo so I'm sure it will have a lot of great moments.

As for the other stuff, I don't know why people care so much about other game communities. Do I play SF3? Hell no, I don'. I actually hate that game. But I'm not going to go out of my way to bash them and that's because I never really got into the game after Second Impact. I hate Metal Gear games and that's because I much prefer Splinter Cell. Again, I'm not going to bash the MGS games because I could understand why people like it but agian, it's not my cup o tea.

and let's be serious here, who here hasn't really played a Smash game? I wasted a lot of my time with my friends playing Smash on the N64 and GC when those games came out. It's a lot of damn fun. And is that not what games are supposed to be? Or has every gamer on the planet deemed it that games are not fun anymore unless it's at a competitive level?

Yes, Brawl is not a fighting game. When a developer goes out of their way to make a game LESS competitive by making the game more ariel based, taking out all advanced movements, and adding tripping the game does not deserve to be called a fighting game.
Well the Smash community wanted a chance for glory and to be taken seriously by the fighting game community and this is there one and only chance. If they screw this up they will NEVER recover.
I don't know the ends and outs of the Smash community very much, but I do know it is getting old and is showing it. We will just have to see what comes of this.
At least they have their shit enough together to win this drive. Other communities can't even show up for tournaments let alone put money towards winning a slot for EVO.

One and only? Smash bros has been at Evo before (Melee at Evo 2007 and Brawl at 2008), I don't think it went over too well due to all the rules that had to be put in place to make it tournament viable (more so Brawl than Melee).

I think the only rule should be all Final Destination, 4 stock, 8 minutes

Don't forget about Items. Most of them are ok but some of them are really stupid, I think most smash tournaments have them all turned off.

"Congrats to Melee", I don't care beyond that statement. I don't play the game but good for it's community and that's about it as far as caring.

Let's stop being hypocrites and cut them some slack...

MK community is a peasant community in a lot of peoples eyes. Treating the smash community like that, is downright dickish and hypocritical from our part.

At least there is more than 1 character that can do that. How many characters in MK can do Cyrax-like shit ? I like how people only hook up on 100% combos and pathetically try to defend MK . Nothing makes MK more of a fighter than UMVC3 or any other game. In fact, MK9 is more of a tits and blood fest than a fighter.
