Rain has so much potential but doing his combos online is almost near impossible due to lag
I like playin rain and think he is underused

However Kung lao rapes him so bad, So I will do this matchup

You cant link a whiffed D4 into anything.

4rh hits mid and is 10 frames, how does it get shut down by d4 which is 12 frames? the range might be better but if you space it well the mileena player cant go trhowing d4's.

Rain is about the threat of constant big juggle damage from a Round House or 4RH, you either lose life or meter, and sometimes both (if you dont have two bars to break with).

If you can't land the combos because of online, then Rain will lose and he will give no threat.

But, do it anyway.

It's a "special" mid. And by "special," I mean retarded, and that is because some moves can actually duck under it, such as Milleena and Sonya's D4 and all hitbox-lowering D3s.
 
its even easier to whiff punish than any poke in the game.
shouldnt pokes be one of the hardest things to punish in the game since they are faster and have better whiff recovery, so a normal SHOULD be easier to punish.

standing 4 has very good range and the duration is 41 frames. kung lao 21 is 43 frames of duration and has not as good a range as standing 4. so if people can make 21 work, standing 4 should work as well. also, the rain player could very well be throwing out a 43 instead of just standing 4.
 
I dont play MK like I used to, I only like playing Rain, who is a piece of shit online sadly enough.

Since TTT2 dropped all I can notice in MK is all of its inconsistencies (online & offline) & the online sucks so much which really brings it down in my book.

I also find myself getting bored of it really quickly too, but I'll play you from time to time if you fancy.
i can see why you stopped, ur just washed up trash.... lmao just playing bro, i've noticed the europe mk scene def has been dwindling over time which explains why that last mk tournament in europe was very small, so nothing wrong with switching to another game, but if you ever feel like fully commiting to it again, we'll be here bcuz mk9 is def here to stay.

The downside to his standing 4 is?
First off, up close it is good, nothing wrong with it here. Good mixups involved with it, not much to say.

In footsies though, it has many issues:

1) It's range is severely over exaggerated, it's less than a normal D4 (let alone the extra long ones)

2) Another problem with using it in footsies is if the person jumps, you get blown up by full JIP combo, unlike many other good footsies tools (Kitanas f21, d3/d4, etc)

3) It's significantly more whiff punishable than other footsies tools

i've always noticed this with his standing 4, also it can be low pokes under it and is like a bootleg version of liu's b3 haha.

but if standing 4 connects on neutral crouch it means they still have be faster than the 10 frame standing 4 right?

doesnt the same apply to raiden f24? and that is a great move. and you cant compare it to kitana, she is top 2 with character with best normals in the game.

Sorry, but Rains not a character capable of functioning online.
Every time I see you playing him online (which is every time I have lol) ... you seem to do just fine landing every combo and reacting to what is going on. Pig will also be suffering from whatever online brings to the table, so just do it!!! If anything, it will be awesome to see.

Indeed, it does apply to Raiden's F24 too. However, that is much better at AAing someone attempting to jump yet is easier to whiff punish. That doesn't really have anything to do with what we are talking about though.

As far as the other part, I believe Sonya has the best footsies tool in the game (her d4) and Foxy has said previously that Rains standing 4 is better than it. So, I figured that bringing any other normal into the comparison discussion would be fine.

Expanding on that, I personally don't agree with most people's use of normals in footsies but that is a whole different discussion that is better suited for a different thread.

I'm not talking out of my ass
I'm speaking from exp having played foxy rain and others

Using d4 range on hit or whiff d4 at worst makes his 4 whiff which I roll and ex RH or RH whiff as well

I fail to have ever seen the problem or threat here
