Tekken Tag Tournament 2 General Discussion

How useful is the Prima Tekken Tag 2 Tournament strategy guide?
A friend has it... meh. It's OK I guess? It has SOME frame data, but honestly, it's not even COMPLETE frame data, and it doesn't show partial moves!

It'll have like, Lili's d/f+3+4, 3+4, but not just d/f+3+4, which is the infinitely more useful part of the move. I'd probably skip it?

How are you guys constructing your BNBs? I'm having a serious issue following up for max damage of a given launch. There's so many follow ups to choose from. I mean I can do the samples in the movelists but the seem a bit impractical for real match situations
I go for red life bnb's first. So you have to know "Did I launch with a move that I can tag out and someone else can carry on?".
If I didn't launch with that... I go for a solo combo... something to get in the 70's (or higher if CH). This typically won't do enough damage to give THEIR partner netsu which will give you full Oki options. It also pretty much ensures that if you land another launcher... you'll either kill them... or their partner will have to use a tag crash.... effectively nullifying the netsu.

Obviously its fun to drop a 90 to 100 damage combo on someones head... but only if it kills them.

I simply don't want the character that i'm fighting to have netsu. It is such a game changer (Paul Phoenix Death Fist. Seriously.... this move). I also try to never tag crash... and just bide my time and tag out naturally. Bound combo's tend to leave a ton of recoverable life... and getting that life back is a must.

Thats just me and what i've learned from playing a bit and what some of the better players seem to be doing.

Choose your character, and their forum will have a combo thread with everyone's standard max damage bread and butter combos. You don't need to stress your brain for hours trying to come up with them, especially if you're new to Tekken. It's a lot easier when you've been playing for years and know everyone's moveset already... coming from past games its fairly obvious what the optimum juggles are, but I can imagine for a new player trying to come up with their own, it could seem overwhelming.

You generally want 3 go-to combos, and they're mostly variations on a single theme.
1. High damage solo combo
2. High damage tag assault combo
3. Long wall carry tag assault combo

Now, are BNB in this game launch specific? As some seem to launch higher than others and what not. If not, than I'm all for getting three down and going with it lol. I mean shit Im playing capos, so if im not going for max damage, i'm mixing them up nasty and nickel and diming them. LoL

Thank you guys, every one for all the help. This game is so much fun, I'm hooked like a fucking bigmouth bass.....

Kinda?... but honestly you can likely find a standard BnB that works from most of your launchers since you're just getting started.

For example, Lili does the same BnB off of u/f+3 and d/f+2. d+3+4 launches them extra high so you can do one extra high damage hit in there... and then its the same as from d/f+2.

So yes, there are certainly launcher-specific BnBs, but they're all usually variants on the same theme. For example, all of Lili's moves (CH d/f+3 or d/f+3+4 lets say) that leave the opponent falling to the ground can basically use the same "pickup" juggle to get them high into the air.

slips, whats your opinion on xiaoyu? think she is a solid character? And who is a good tag partner with her?

I've been playing Xiaoyu & Miharu as a 2nd team. Theyre really good if you have good movement, their backdash is massive, FF3 is a great longrange safe mid poke that can bait whiffs on block.

Punishment is really simple, its either gonna be:

10f - 1D2 into BT mixup
12f - Shoulder
14f - B44
15f - DF2~1

Shes good if you're good at breaking down the opponents mind set quickly.

Anybody watch last nights WNF? WTF is with all these TA combos nearly every time they land a launch?

I'm sooo conservative with giving the opponent rage/red life. But then with my characters its easy to take red life. Something I'm getting a feel for is when pairs of teams get rage based on how much damage you do to them, so if you know that the next hit in the combo will give them rage, thats a legit time to TA. Otherwise dont do it unless you will kill, or can bait a tag crash to kill the other character.

Thoughts?

The general mindset now is to TA on every juggle from what majority of what I've seen. It can definitely help with long wall carries, and near walls you can net some pretty high damage, 100 compared to 70. I can see it being worth it, I guess. I generally only TA near a wall for the wall damage or wall carry... otherwise, I don't want to give my opponent rage or a tag crash... my entire game is based around ground games, so a get-off-the-ground free card is not good for me to give away.

Are ya' ready for MK11 kids?!
Personally I think it's BS that all the DLC characters have neutral netsu with everyone. Yoshimitsu/Doctor B should be a shoe in for premature rage when paired up :(

Eff no, lmao. I've really only played the Tekken series VERY casually, during my history. TTT2 is the first time that I'm trying to actually be decent at it.
you going to play on PS3? I remember playing like 2 sub mirrors with you a WHILE back...you destroyed my young sub lol. :D

Many TA combos extend the damage and wallcarry so it's good for damage when it can bring you 1 or 2 big pokes away from winning the round , 100 dmg+oki is not something to be disregarded , yeah it gives them netsu but they still have to tag in their partner to get that rage damage or use it for the tag crash wich is the easy way to get out of oki mixups but:

1 the tagging partner loses his regenable redlife
2 Can be punished if baited from certain moves / combo enders
3 If blocked they are around -3 on block , on hit around +3
4 Most importantly they lose rage

However i agree that TA are kinda overused right now , probably because the game is new to many players and they're trying to get that TA on muscle memory , the real deal is properly using taggable launchers whenever you can , taking away redlife is fundamental as it limits the potential health they can recover meaning less chances to come back.

Still i'd usually always TA if i'm near the corner just to get that huge damage , 20+ damage almost for free is damn good.

Yes, my copy is for PS3. I actually rented my copy through Gamefly and I just elected to use the "Keep It" option for it yesterday. Which means that they're going to ship out the game case for it, as well as the manual.....that has the online pass code that I need to play it online, lol

I should be online with my copy sometime this weekend.

Has someone messed with Devil Jin's u+4 on Xbox? Or the u+4 period, I need to understand that move. I play PS3 but when playing Xbox 360 I don't know how to respond.
