Well, typically religious topics and political get personal which is why I normally avoid them (but believe me if I knew this thread would caused such an uproar over me not liking Obama so much, I would go back in the past and not have posted at all)

Anyway, I honestly am not a Romney fan either, to me it's just a lesser of two evils at this point and politics in general are corrupt. The other stuff like gun control, abortion,drugs, national security etc I think we all have our personal views on that.

When the teetering economies of the world, including ours, inevitably collapse, where would be the safest/unshittiest place to go? I don't know about you guys, but between the 8 years our country was run into the ground under Bush, and the drastic steps this administration seems to have taken to multiply these problems (had no clue about half the shit you mentioned, Abra, thank you for keeping an open mind informed), I want to at least have some measure of a backup plan in place in case everything does indeed go to hell in a handbasket.
Not going crazy or planning for armageddon or anything to that extent, but I'm really not thrilled about the future's bleak outlook, and I feel compelled to be prepared.

That being said...how do you guys feel about yesterday's win for gay civil rights?
I forget the doctor's name, he was responsible for the study/legal precedent for denying gays' rights in court, the reason the argument had been made for years that "gays can change," but I heard something to the effect of the anti-gay agenda losing its only solid scientific base; said doctor who went out of his way to apologize to the gay community and is currently trying to retract the article he'd written.

I'd call that a win.

I'm gonna google it in a moment...it was on Rachel Maddow last night (MSNBC, the only news network I can fucking stomach), and I felt waves of joy. Not just for the gays, but for the satisfaction of knowing the anti-gays just lost their only leg to stand on. I can't remember the last time I watched the news and heard something positive.

Also: I'd love to debate anyone, in this day and age, who's against the legalization, or at least the decriminalization, of marijuana.
There is no good reason. None. At least not in a global economy where cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol make more money than could possibly be done without. i'd love to know what the fuck is so special about pot that it's the least harmful/detrimental of the group, probably less than the rest put together, has an entire widely-organized culture, lobbyists and congressmen in support of it, the number of which would probably grow exponentially if someone significant would speak on its behalf (I'm looking at you, Bill Clinton), we live in a society where people have WAY bigger things to worry about than the stoners next door...I don't get it.
