Congrats to Curbo for putting in work, he got a lot of crap, but he proved himself in so many ways in this tournament.

I love these upsets and shutdowns, things changing= more hype.

I hope this also galvanizes the community, especially online players to go to more tournaments with confidence and strength that they can win with the proper dedication and fundamentals.

Now hopefully the debate about online's worth can be put to rest:).
Debate about Curbo's abilities is put to rest. It has nothing to do with the rest of online.

Why the hell wouldn't Riu48 use Sonya to begin with? That's on him, no one else. You're right though, he won EVO and he will remain EVO champ until this years. Good luck!
Riu told me that he has a different controller for using Kitana, and a different controller for using Sonya, and it would have been too much of a hassle to switch controllers and everything so he stuck with Kitana for the set. He really should have switched though. I don't think anybody there would be able to stop his Sonya aside REO's Kabal, and even that match was really really close.

Edit: Also, in the words of the Great Tim Static:

MK is like sex, if it's online it doesn't count
Nobody has argued that online counts or is equal to offline tournaments.......people have only argued that it's not worthless, there's a difference, but of course whenever anybody says online isn't worthless as a tool, it's immediately dismissed.

Online is where you can build up REALLY bad habits if you are not careful. I used to use blade charge a LOT more then I do now, because online it is so much safer than online. Reptile's dash is a move that while being impossible to punish online is full combo punishable offline. There is always some form of lag, whether people notice it or not. It may be one or two frames worth, but it is still lag. The only thing Curbo has proved is that online players can come out to compete, and I personally knew this from day one. However, online should never be your only matchup experience. At least on the expert ladder you can see what is safe and what is not. Online is just too inconsistent to be a real tool in this game, except for maybe talking and learning from other players(who dont play exclusively online).

I was really sad how he played that match up. When I fight anyone online I try to play footsies and not zone.
Just like Curbo got out of Cage's comfort bubble and blew up zoners, why couldn't Pl do similar with kabal? Then again top 8 money isn't on the line for me lol.

I'm not good at all but that is how I like to fight with kabal. If you fought me on psn you'd understand. I'm sure a lot of you have. If I get in a match with minimal lagg, I generally do good. Other than that I always get blown up. I still push myself to play that way though, even if I lose or the match isn't in kabal's favor.

Match up experience can be acquired from online, that in and of itself is not worthless. Again, nobody said anything about it being your only match up experience, but most of us don't have the money or time to go to tournaments or don't have an offline scene that meets to level up offline, so we use the tools we have.

I do play expert ladder most of the time, learned quite a bit of anti-air stuff and better spacing, which I in turn worked into my other areas of play, including online.

Bad habits can be acquired, but people could develop bad habits simply from their playstyle and this could be an offline player, who never plays online. People jumping too much, I play several people who also don't play offline ever and they rarely if ever jump because they know it's very risky.

The window on his dash punish isn't super big offline either.

. Also, you have to have a really fast frame move to punish is dashes OFFLINE, the window for punishment is small there too.
I am glad to hear you couple online with expert ladder, that is the best way to get better without offline help. Also, Reptile's dash is very punishable, I have played against many of them. I usually have time to do Baraka's B31

Yes, I agree it's punishable, but it's not as punishable as say a blocked Superman from Raiden or Kabal's dash. Rhe window is much smaller.

Baraka's back 3 one is a low mix up correct? I don't know how many frames that is, but it seems pretty quick. I usually go for 1,1, roll toss with Stryker or 1,2 shadow kick with Jade because most of their other stuff is too slow to really blow him up before he has time to block or dash again.

Sektor and Sonya can really blow him up with their fast jabs into heavy damage and possible resets.

And it still will always be considered so.

REO was an online warrior. But did he earn anything playing online? NO. Some people just have "it". Curbo has it.

Online is still trash.

Opinions are opinions, I don't recall saying anybody earned anything from playing online... People keep posting things unrelated to my point or my argument, done debating it.

Well most people are quiet in person, especially in the kind of setting he was for the first time this weekend, but he was breaking rules and we have him a couple days break a couple different times. It was completely justified and we'll leave it at that.

No, facts are facts, so stop arguing with facts.
I'm allowed to post my opinion, none of which was saying online was equal to offline or you prove yourself online , I NEVER did say any of that(other people mentioned proving yourself etc/NOT me). I know it's not, yet people are posting at me as though I said it was, I never did so......k whatever.
