Come On Die Young
LETHAL LEGEND
five finger death punch is terrible

i respect tool. one of the few decent radio bands

Regardless, Slipknot was pretty original man, nobody sounded like them. They had a unique song structure, great gimmicks with they presentation and musicianship. Corey Taylor had one of the most distinctive and brutal sounding vocals you could ever hear who could transition to smooth vocals on a dime (fucking hard). Awesome live shows. And Joey Jordison was a sick drummer.
Man, Slipknot's musicianship is ass. Their gimmicks were stupid and their unique song structure was just really watered-down extreme metal. Brutal vocals? Lol. Also, if you want to talk about transitioning between vocal styles:

I was thinking the same thing about Akerfeldt when Slips wrote that. Also thought of Garm, ICS Vortex, Vintersorg, Ihsahn, and John Haughm immediately as well. Probably more that I'm forgetting too.

Edit: Forgot Dan Swano. And these guys:

I'd probably put Dave Hunt of Anaal Nathrakh and Alan Averill of Primordial up there too
Definitely. Seeing Anaal Nathrakh at MDF was amazing. It took a couple of songs for them to sound tight and his clean vocals seemed off. But by the 3rd song, they sounded amazing. It really felt like the world was coming to end.

Pig Of The Hut

Day 0 Phenomenal Dr. Fate and Darkseid player
90s grunge is the fucking shit. I'm still waiting for grunge to come back. All of the bands you listed are great, pearl jam just happens to be my favorite. I'll throw stone temple pilots in there too, I saw them in concert 2 summers ago and they were awesome.

Edit: Led Zeppelin has some phenomenal guitar work (I'm looking at you Pig Of The Hut ) and drum solos. Jimmy makes it sing in heartbreaker, especially.
i love me some zeppelin

Also, the reason people don't like Slipknot is cos its not cool to like Slipknot. It never was.

but who cares, back in the day they fuckin kicked ass

Come On Die Young
lol this reminded me too. a couple years ago i was at a show with vader, augury, and swashbuckle (i think there was one other band thrown into the mix too). decrepit birth had to drop off the tour, so they got Rose Funeral (a generic shitty deathcore band) to fill in. the audience reaction was hilarious. we all spent the entire set mocking them.

and Plop , no. they never did. their music is awful and always has been

Seriously, the fact that promoters HAVE to lump some shitty deathcore band into these shows/tours prevents me from even showing up anymore. Fuck it. I'll just go to MDF one day.

This has to be worse.

Notice how they're metrosexuals, too? Their attempts to take over the world with their shitty crabcore was thwarted thankfully...but they tried!

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
Thats BS. The goal is to always make the most money with your music. They did all they could with that style and had to evolve. Money changes people, but their musical style isn't just because of that. Of course the first 2 albums are the best by far, but the others had some bright spots (Three Nil is sick!). Most bands best stuff is when they were poor and hungry, Slipknot is no different.
THANK YOU <3.

K7 is officially on my christmas list.

As far as the drastic change between Iowa and Vol. 3 where everyone became sort of polarized...as a lifelong Maggot, I can't tell you how many times I've had to argue to validity of Slipknot. You'd try and tell the youngsters and the doubters, "Have you HEARD Iowa? It was like someone took condensed, canned hatred and made a fucking 14-course meal out of it, of course Vol. 3 wasnt gonna be as heavy, they used up all their cans!"
I liked that album, but it was a COMPLETELY different Slipknot that taped it. Every band has to have that one soul-searching kind of album. Looking back & given the state the band was in prior to them making it, what with Clown and Corey constantly at odds and Chris & James being miserable, not to mention Corey's scream being shot to shit at, it doesn't surprise me they went in the more zen direction just for the sake of the band's survival. And IMO, they made up for it with All Hope Is Gone. "Gematria," "Sulfer," the title track, "Wherein Lies Continue," all heavy as fuck and delicious to boot.

Slips

what the fuck are you talking about? Slipknot has always been the biggest pussy shit in metal. and i use the term "metal" loosely when describing them. nothing about them has ever been good.

K7L33THA i lost respect for you too. being a slipknot fan is almost as bad as being a juggalo.
That makes me sad, Rev :(.

Best band in the world. Legit.
But I raised myself on them, so I'm biased.
I completely understand, though, why so many people have no taste for them. They're easy to dislike from an outside perspective. Corey's a huge egotist, Craig & Sid are subtle to the point of nonexistance on a great deal of tracks which prompts the "9 people? Really?" argument, they play some of the grossest-sounding, overly-distorted fare ever heard on record...but that's who and what they are. Half the interviews they do, they end up heckling themselves with how shitty they think their effects and gimmickry sound, etc...but for the fans who've been there since before "Purity" was kicked off the first album, there's nothing else like them.

If you think it's the "heaviness" that I have a problem with, you're wayyyy wrong lol. Slipknot sounds like pop music. I have more distaste for them than other similar bands because they represent extreme metal to the mainstream, and they're not even close to that. I just find their "darkness" funny and music extremely overrated from a technical standpoint. Like, compared to most of the bands in the death metal genre, Jordison's very average.

Actually I will admit something, Vermillion Pt. 2 isn't a bad song at all. But when they try to be heavy, it's just funny.
