I never hear him question strategies or giving input on what they could have done or what they need to do to take control of a match. That is what we need for MLG not "That's F3, that move is good." no offence to Phill though, I actually enjoy his commentary every thursday night but he seems far to casual to commentate a major.

Then it seems you haven't really seen Phil commentate.Phil does question strategies and point out mistakes he sees.It even gets to a point where he's able to read the players and say what they're going to do before they even do it.

If Phil played the game god knows how much of a beast he'd be.

He did play the game for a while before he decided it sucked and went back to classic MK.

He didn't say it sucked he just doesn't have time to play it. In fact, a few days ago he tweeted that he wants to go back to playing.

Hm I kind of got the impression from speaking with him at Season's Beatings that he didn't really like the game, but if I'm mistaken and he's coming back to it that would be positively baller.

Its a shame that Mayo and Glue live in different continents because they would be a dream pairing.

That said, based on FR it has to be Medina, BeerGuy Ed or Pig. I actually think Tom would do a pretty good job.

actually, rumor is tom is 100% out. last night this place was buzzing with rumors as to why tom was so upset, even randomly deleting all his youtube content. the "word on the tym streets" is that tom was the name mentioned to MLG as the guy to use but apparamtly NRS and Warner Brothers said they dont want tom involved in anything MK related anymore.

all this is apparantly a direct result of all the trolling tom recieves from the community as the communities way of joking with tom. apparantly NRS and Warner Brothers bought into it and let all the trolling effect how they feel about the guy. i guess you can tell tom to ignore the haters all you want, doesnt seem to mean anything if NRS and Warner Brothers listen to them.

like Pig, I cant wait to hear who is chosen. does anyone know when MLG will announce it?

I feel that Tom Brady definitely could've represented our game very well, both intellectually and professionally to a new audience.

He also has knowledge of Soul Calibur V which could've been an asset to the production value of the event as a whole.

It will be interesting to see who has been selected if it has already been determined.

I agree, it is very unfortunate. The thing is, trolling the guy by making him out to be a fraud, not a top player, under rating his tournament top placings, etc etc.. is/was supposed to be one of those "funny because its not true" kind of jokes. It was supposed to be a troll by seeing if you can get the guy mad with a joke only funny because of it being untrue and an obvious ribbing.


for sure the trolling went WAY too far, there is no way that it was started to actually get a troll joke(which was totally untrue) to some how manifest itself as a fact when there is no fact to it. while i guess the community does have a lot to do with what happened, I dont think ANYONE actually throught that anyone of marginal intelligence would ever believe or buy into the trolling and what was being said.

Did brady really lose his chance to do commentary at MLG because of the possibility of people trolling the stream/commentary. If so thats just stupid, cant we like sign a petition to get brady to do mlg 's commentary?

There is a HUGE difference between a caster and a commentator.

Caster is a person who can do the rapid fire play by play and paint a vivid picture of what is going on while simultaneously hyping the game.

Commentator is a person who talks ABOUT the game, i.e. why people are doing what they're doing, why it ssignificant, what they are going to be doing next, general matchup stuff and strategy etc.

Look at Tasteless and Artosis from the Starcraft 2 scene. Look at Husky and HDStarcraft from Starcraft 2. In both of these cases, the former is the caster who is an awesome, charismatic person to listen to, while the latter is the "analyst" commentator who talks about technical stuff. Obviously there is overlap and synergy between the two, i.e. the caster will set up the commentator for something to talk about by maybe asking a question or using allusions.

If I had it my way I'd probably have a duo along the lines of 9.95 and Pig Of The Hut , if you've read my post at all you'll know who fits which role and why. I haven't heard enough of Arturo's commentary to really comment one way or another. I know that he is going to be one of the guys there and props to him for his position within MLG, but I don't know where he really sits on this spectrum of caster vs. commentator. Maybe he's gonna pull a Day[9] that is pure man-mode and can do both simultaneously and flawlessly. Time will tell.

TLDR there is a difference between casters and commentators and I hope to see one of each for MK9. Chemistry is the most important thing of all, though.

I really appreciate your compliments, if asked I would without hesitation do it but from what I heard I'm not one of the two chosen.

and i agree... if this was still 2011. tom used feed the trolls, thats true, but in the last 3 months i cant remember a stream or event of this happening. I have watched the last few VSM's, FR, WB and didnt see any troll feeding. I was even in the kombat network charity stream and donated, still no feeding any trolls. dont think he even was on stream from december to feburary due to no stream for NEC and him not competing afterwards until WB because of what happened in his personal life .

the trolls keep trolling, fed or not. no one of intelligence should ever believe what trolls say, this is why nrs doing so is so surprising.

If TB has been dropped by NRS and WB for MLG and that abuse contributed then I feel pretty bad for the guy.
