I’m not worried about this game. I’m worried about MK as a franchise haha. I told you I don’t care about this game. Plus I want the next MK game to do well.
I see no reason no worry about that.
Say you’re right and this game isn’t doing well right so what? I still find games online all the time, you still have top players at tournaments etc.

at the end of the day it is still just a video game you’ll live…. Go find a game you like.
City of the wolves is very fun.

Then good. Enjoy this game, meanwhile some of us are looking to the future.

Simply ignore us and go about your day.

That’s just not how things are decided haha.

Like many games lately that are flopping left and right you don’t have to play them to know they’re not for you.

How about you pick up any game you don’t like and go play it. I would never give MK1 a dime tbh. Sorry not sorry.

Also for Street Fighter to be anywhere near MK’s sales is usually unheard of. MK1 also had to slow in sales for Street Fighter to catch up.
I don't talk about the quality of games I've never tried.

You, however....

Sooo if we all just shut up and then NRS sees just positive feedback what happens next game?

Are they reading this particular board? No. However this is more about discussion around this game in general.

I don’t like this particular MK game and LOTS of other don’t either. So what? We just shutup and let the same shit happen next game.

MK11 may have been a bad game in some of your eyes. Cool. That’s fine. Casuals loved it though. Regardless of what you think they did and tournament entries were still as good as past tournament entries. MKX had fans carry over from MK9, MK11 had fans carry over from MKX, MK1 had an initial burst of sales from MK11. Will MK2 have a burst of sales from MK1? I don’t think so. I’m going to be honest there. I really don’t think it will.
You've never played this game. Your opinion is irrelevant.

Honestly he should just try the game for a week I bet you he would like it.
I didn’t play the game for over a year and one day out of nowhere I was bored and gave it another go and now I’m just addicted to it.
I play It everyday and watch tournaments all the time haha

A couple of NRS employees read this forum consistently.

Say what you want about this forum and its obsolescence.

This thread is more constructive, productive, and civilized than Twitter, which is the most nugatory website on the Internet.

Oh well good. Hey I don’t want this board to be obsolete at all man! I actually love these forums (as I did TRMK AND MKONLINE).

So if they read them hopefully they can take some constructive criticism.

This thread is lierally “Did NRS silence the critics?”

There’s going to be dissenting opinions. Y’all just get mad if people don’t like this particular game. Which like why?

If you want an NRS praise thread then create one. This ain’t the thread for that.

No one gets "mad" at criticism.

We get annoyed with shallow, repetitive, and often just factually incorrect criticism from people that have never touched Arcade Mode.

NRs “oh look 3 out of the 7 active members of this forum dislike & have never played our game” yeah they don’t give a fuck about you 3 hahaha

Oh well.
Maybe they’ll pay attention to all the negative youtube, reddit, and any other comments.

They’re out there ;)

If they did care we’d had online training mode already lol
This is the thing that's annoying to me about the forum.

I believe there's a lot of passionate people who work for NRS and even WB. Anyone who's worked on any kind of project, let alone the mega projects something like AAA game dev is, knows what a fucking nightmare it can be to get even the obvious things done.

Anyone playing fighting games will tell you it's something we need, I'm 100% sure there's voices in the NRS team saying the same. I'm also 100% sure there's voices saying that the tech overhead is a problem, or there's some team communication issue that makes it hard to get these changes, or there's some manager who doesn't care if a bunch of pvp people will like it when the sales almost certainly show mostly single player play, and on and on and on.

I work in a smaller company environment and even there "this is obvious" and "this will actually happen in a reasonable timeframe" almost never easily overlap. I LEFT more corporate environments, which I'm sure NRS and WB are, because getting someone to agree the building was on fire and we should put it out would've required about 8000 man hours of emails, meetings, forms, discussions, and politics.

All that said though, that's also why I do think it's super important to call out the game on shit like this. They are literally the only modern fighter (indie or not) that I've touched that doesn't have this feature. The only way it's ever going to get movement is if things like this wind up looking bad for them. It's very very unlikely to, but at the same time since we're throwing around Sajam and SonicFox's names earlier, yes if people like that all start talking about how this is why people don't want to play MK on social media, then it might be enough to shift the bean counters (and even then it's a fucking slog).

I wish that if NRS wanted to make an assist game, they would have made a spinoff. I prefer straight up 1v1 fighters over anything, and MK has always been primarily this. I had that bad gut feeling that this wasn't the game for me back when "Kameo," and the idea of assists for this game first leaked.

I don't like the monetization, but can accept that it's the way of video games these days, outside of a few franchises.

I don't like the supers becoming available for being low health in any game. I think that's been talked about to death.

I don't like the lack of hard character arctypes. When everyone can do anything(with kameos) the game feels homogenized, even though there's many possible team options.

I wish MK would make a better Ranked Mode, and better online modes in general. The lack of content both aimed toward casual and competitive players is a huge L to me.

I don't like that the support for MK games is so short, but again, I know it's very profitable for them to release new games vs DLC.

I think the story, or more so, the writing has gotten really generic and not appealing. The story has beats that could be interesting, but they mostly aren't. I'm fine with a new era, but its mostly a similar era with some cool changes(Baraka, Reptile, Sindel) and some really awful ones(Raiden, Scorpion, Kitana).

I really think Mortal Kombat more than any other series benefits from leaning into the nostalgia of the 90s. Doom doesn't have rap now because that's what's considered edgy and cool in the mainstream, it's still metal. I feel MK has tried to sorta become pop instead of staying techno. Weird ass analogy, but maybe it makes sense to someone.

Also, I put over 1000 hours into MK1. I think I can have an opinion.

Dude, "I feel MK has tried to sorta become pop instead of staying techno" , is like the best analogy that perfectly describes whats been going on with mk after 9.

I think that it is just the age of some of the players... apart from MK1-3 every single MK completely reinvented itself. It is a defining feature of the version system in MK. Was it Deception that had the weapon stances? I forget... but my point is that MK1 and the Kameos is just another example of what NRs has been doing for a long time, way before MK9... as in trying to make the game completely different from every version of the game that came before.

This actually has a downside, I made a post about it before.. The idea of The Continuity of Longevity. It is hard to form a landscape for players when each game is so different to the last. You learnt SF2 in the 90s, you can play SF6. Even learning the more obscure Tekken characters will help you in latter games as their guests are about bringing back popular franchise characters over random pop culture things. Becoming a legend in Conan or Hellboy in IJ2, is just lost in time once that version of the game is done.

Anyway, MK2 will have a completely different variation system to MK1, mark my words.

It's true. MK players got old and they've wanted the game to stay the same since UMK3.

Sorry paw-paw; it's a New Era, now.

I'm not really sure this is 100% related but I think about that Mike Hollow interview with the anonymous dev, "Blood Count."

Multiple times during that interview, he'd start to talk shit about how a character is designed and Blood Count would go, "actually, I designed that character."

Fucking hilarious.

Anyway, people have been tearing about a lack of "archetypes" for awhile now. It's an outdated talking point that just isn't valid anymore.

I'd name off a ton of examples as I have before but I'll just say this: If you think Nitara, Quan Chi, and Geras are the exact same "archetype," and play exactly the same, I'm going to assume you are a clown and not take you very seriously.

find a game you like, this isn’t that serious. It’s just a video game.
