Its really funny when people talk about old games with so much confidence and can kinda get away with it because that game's playerbase is mostly gone, but IYKYK, and can watch them just out themselves for being bad.
It goes both ways.
if MK9 had playable netcode more than half of the community would be hating on it.

Point is, pretty much everytime an accent is done by people not from that area, it's cringe.
Dare you to watch Section 31. Holy crap one guy does TWO different accents and they're both atrocious

The rest of the movie? Also atrocious

Man. I'm a Star Trek fan and modern trek has been really hit and miss for me.
What? Don't you want to see a movie about a bunch of bickering sociopaths dealing with a weapon the size of a volleyball that can wipe out a quadrant (yes, I said quadrant) where they try (and fail) to make you root for Space Hitler all filmed with a sickening yellow piss-filter and the worst digital zooms ever?

Nah. Honestly, I think that conceptually, Section 31 is at its most effective when we know nothing concrete about it.

I do have my own Trek hot takes. I mean, I'm one of the last remaining, "Voyager was pretty good, actually" fans left. The rest of us were purged.

Justice for Tuvix.

As a mad treky, as in I go to cons and have Christmas photos of the entire family in cosplay.... I have to say that everything after Enterprise is not star trek. Brave New World and the newer films are an exception, I mean those are "off center" a little, but Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks, Section 31... hell even Prodigy are abominations. I have no faith in the coming Starfleet Academy,

For the record Deep Space 9 is where a lot of the current problems in trek originated. They introduced section 31, money and other completely non-trek ideas. Like greed and fear and all that. It was a good show and a lot of fun, but that is the show that completely walked away from the original vision, that you see in the purist form in Next Gen. What DS9 and the modern treks do not understand is that the people in Star Trek are ALIENS, as in alien to us. They are more like the elves in Lord of the Rings than my next door neighbour. The entire idea of section 31 would make Roddenberry roll over in his grave.

Do not get me wrong ds9 is a great show, but it is not "true trek". These modern shows though are unwatchable shite. They are not even nu-trek... they are just fucking rubbish.

Bruh, don't even mess with me. What was done to Tuvix was straight-up wrong. Poor man was murdered in cold blood. I'm a little hot & cold on Voyager but I think it's good episodes are FANTASTIC and they usually revolve around the Doctor (one of the all time best Trek characters)

And yes, Section 31 being used sparingly is absolutely best. Section 31 movie is a total disaster. Just an awful piece of trash.

I can agree pretty much on all points and I say that as a DS9 lover because it has Garak, Quark, Dukat and Odo...and they're basically in my top 5 fave Trek characters. That said, I absolutely know what you mean tonally.

As for the new stuff? It's turboshit.

Garak has to be in the running for one of the best characters in all of star trek,. In the Pale Moonlight is peak ds9.

31 never should have existed outside of DS9 unless it was to show up to be owned and pointed out how that shit only causes issues

He's absolutely my favorite of all time. Great character and an amazing performance. It's insane to me that the DS9 cast and writing was so superb that it has FOUR characters that are in contention for my favorites like that. Hell, they're up there in my list of favorite fictional characters altogether.

Agreed. I liked the first 2 seasons of "Strange New Worlds," well enough. Probably the best modern Trek live action series. Picard was... not good.

The best overall modern Trek, ironically, is Lower Decks, in my opinion, simply because it's satire.

"Voyager was pretty good, actually"
It was, actually.

Justice for Tuvix.
I felt so awful for him.

Zoning Master
I mean most people on this site don't even play the game, so...
I played over 1,000 games last season and I have played about 200 games thus far in the current season. I have accumulated more hours in Mortal Kombat 1 than in Tekken 8 or Street Fighter 6. I would therefore like to share a couple of hot takes that I want people in this thread to opine on.
  • During the era of armored launchers, Mortal Kombat X had superior defensive options than Mortal Kombat 1. I felt more in control with Tremor than I have ever felt with any character in Mortal Kombat 1.
  • Zoning was more efficient in Mortal Kombat X than in Mortal Kombat 1, particularly at the peak of Bone Shaper Shinnok, Summoner Quan Chi, and Hish-Qu-Ten Predator, all of whom won major tournaments.
I am not requesting perfect equivalency between offense/rush down and defense/zoning because I recognize the trend toward aggression in modern fighting games. However, the balance, or lack thereof, is absurd in Mortal Kombat 1.

Check out the almighty Sonic Fox succumbing to Ghostface's vortex below.

Only for him to pick up the same team a couple of days later...

I want to like and support Mortal Kombat 1, but I am very concerned about the weak state of defense and zoning.

The way to rectify this issue is to buff characters like Peacemaker and Tanya.

I don't cosign for Tanya buffs but armor launchers need to either function the same for everyone (some characters don't have the option, some do it with only 1 kameo, some do it too easy, with half the kameos) or not be in the game at all. What would you change and add deffensive wise to make armor not as polarizing ?

YES!
Honestly the biggest thing that made me fall out of this game series. The people who like it most don't even talk about gameplay related things or how to get better or anything. It's just drama and story mode bullshit.
I've avoided expanding on this opinion for awhile because I don't want to point fingers or stir hate but If content creators and community leaders (pillars) were better, there would be more discussion about the game. And a lot of additional benefits would trickle down from there.

Hard disagree. Character variety hinges on things like defensive options being varied. Not everyone needs a DP in street fighter, not everyone needs the same armored launcher in MK1.

That said, they DO need to decide on this as part of a balancing/character design, not just what feels like random assignment. If someone doesn't have an armored launcher, their kit better make up for it somewhere.

Well, to be real, the content creators for MK specifically are either positive or concerned with gameplay. Sonic, Honeybee, even Tweedy. I get what you're saying, there's definitely Tom and Mike and maybe a couple others being negative, but I can't say that the majority of the negativity they've shared hasn't been accurate.

We definitely need louder voices in the MK community that teach the game and support the comp scene and talk about the actual sport(?lol) of the FGC. I'll fucking throw up if I have to hear any of these videos again:

Will DLC save fighting game

How bad was fighting game at launch

game dead?

And the absolute most fucking stupid cringe shit in the past month is the Floyd thing. Even Maximillian was online grinding for that, so maybe I'm hating on joy, which I'm aware is an oldman/dickhead thing to do, but Jesus yall. The games dying and they're giving yall an unplayable invasion boss that you have to do more than what it takes to platinum some games to come across. At least that stage is gorgeous, I guess.

There are literal bookoos of YT channels and other resources to learn SF, Tekken, etc. The development team talks to the player base, knows about fighting games.

That's the culprit IMO. The developer. NRS makes casual/lore games and has a casual/lore audience.

Anyways, I know you said you didn't wanna get into it, but damn. I WISH mk had a serious community.

I'm not even concerned about negativity. I just wish people would make original content, have a personality and make a quality product. I'm not wanting to point fingers because individuals currently making content might just not be that invested and don't care which is totally fine. I'd just expect someone to exist that attempts to reach the examples set by other communities and follow those blueprints.

Only people we got that aren’t doing just “Here’s some sets I did in ranked or with a homie” that aren’t the online TOs are the UK Twins and that’s about it. We ain’t got a dedicated Sajam, Broski, BrianF, or fuck even Diaphone that really sits & breaks down things
