Mods for actually letting this shit fly and not cleaning up this thread.

And then, we will ask ourselves why NRS doesn't visit anymore
Yet not a single person, including yourself, made a single report. Had no idea any of this was going on. I don’t spend 24hrs a day on this site reading every single post and thread. If you or anyone else truly have an issue with someone, their posts, etc, use the report function. Complaining about it without reporting it to staff or tagging staff makes you part of the problem.

Anyway, thread cleaned.

When I hear that the game is in a good state it's really hard for me to see that looking at it from launch until now. If we are talking specifically about gameplay I would agree that it's better to play but that's where it stops IMO.

I'm constantly finding myself feeling that the game is lacking. Not lacking new stuff, but features I have come to expect since they have been in the previous games. There is no lobby system. You can't even practice while you wait in a KOH room. You can't even start your own public KOH match. The menus are bland and look unfinished. For all of the cosmetics you get you can't even select presets in the fighter select screen anymore. I do realize some of these things are small but they add up to the whole experience while playing the game.

They are now charging for fatalities. And they charged full price for an expansion that did not offer much more modes only characters and a story. I don't know about you guys but invasions I only played for combo practice and skins at the beginning but now I don't care anymore and stick to KL. These things don't inspire people to play the game.

The game launched incomplete and still feels incomplete. Say what you want about MK11 gameplay wise but it was a complete game as was every NRS title before it. Regardless if it is NRS or WB's fault the result is the same. I don't hate MK1 but am disappointed with the game bc i feel it should have been better.

Completely rational and I agree.

Gameplay is king though and MK1 is the best gameplay maybe ever in an NRS game.

Part of the problem: How much does WB benefit from paying for and organizing a "pro tour"?

Hard to ignore this. One phrase you’ll hear amongst old FGC forums is “esports was a mistake.” In the book Play Nice: The Rise and Fall of Blizzard entertainment, Jason Schreier investigated how the Overwatch League diverted a lot of company resources for very little return. I think Tekken post-AK, post-Arslan, gets some marketing mileage out of their TWT because it has global appeal. Also Tekken is fighting to catch up with Street Fighter so if an offline scene is intrinsic to Street Fighter’s brand than Tekken is going to have to compete.

In MK’s case, they’re already on third base in terms of sales. The launch version of the game speaks for itself it was definitely in a beta condition when we all bought it for full price.

As Tom Brady (and Crimson Shadow) have said elsewhere, if player passion for MK was more similar to the Brazilian MK scene, the competitive scene would be thriving irrespective of all this pro-tour talk.

I’ve said it before but anecdotally MK players are rare at fighting game weeklies (in Boston at least). And those events are basically bigger since the release of sf6,t8,strive,granblue

Best gameplay maybe. But when that's all we have the experience feels empty IMO. Its almost the exact opposite with what we had with MK11. Everyone agreed the game looked amazing and was a complete package but a lot of people despised the gameplay.

I do agree that the gameplay is what matters. But when it's one of the few things positive about a title it gets old fast

For what it's worth, what's the line? TYM has, by FAR, the highest tolerance for bullshit of any forum i've ever been apart of. I'm fine with not going completely orwellian and just locking down shit the moment it gets heated, but this topic didn't seem that unique as far as off topic shit slinging fests go for this place (but I also have vulgar on ignore and missed some of it before you cleaned up, so maybe it got worse?).

Like I legit don't know if a major line was crossed here or if this was just business as usual

It does seem like the business model of WB/NRS is just more focused on single player and casual content. NRS goes big on Cinematic Story Mode, things like lore, single player things like Krypt/Invasions/Towers. It's also built on turning over and coming out with new games at a faster pace. And it works for them, the game sells really well, the single player content and lore is second to none, and usually the gameplay is pretty interesting or inventive. The online works ok if you just want to dip your toes into some casual or ranked, or play directly with friends. But it's not really ever marketed or presented as a competition style game.

Contrast that with Street Fighter, where every vibe seems to be suggesting to the player that competing with others is the main priority.

I'm not sure either one of those approaches is inherently right or wrong, but it seems to be the reality that WB/NRS doesn't care as much about in person competition.

They absolutely don't care about player vs player. I remember tuning into Aris/Avoiding the Puddle when MK1 released, since he had early access, and it didn't even allow you to screen matches if the ping was ridiculous. When it first launched, ranked would force you to play matches with people with 120+ ms Ping wifi without anyway to decline. You could only decline bad ping in Kasual mode - and that was like the first month of gameplay. It looks bad when streamers themselves want to play your game but basic functionality isn't there. It's embarrassing, but if we're being honest with ourselves, maybe it's only embarrassing to the 1 million players in the USA who are interested in the FGC.

Edit: of course Smash Bros Melee and Project M are both counter points, though one could say Nintendo’s IPs are also singular in terms of their wide appeal. I think MK should at least be pulling melty blood type numbers to events

I remember this clearly and think about it often. How many people were initially interested in MK1 but were instantly sored by the launch experience, and aren't going to touch the game again either ever, or until massive QOL changes are implemented.

As much as I hate to say it, the activity here is almost nonexistent unless someone like @Vulgar starts stirring shit up. While I didn’t know any of this was happening until I saw Eddy’s post, still, to me it’s better than there being no activity at all. We have banned Vulgar many times (Rude), but he sometimes is what is keeping the site alive as weird as it is to say. And when he goes over the line, I DM him or infract him and he never argues with me about it. He always says he understands. But idk what I’m supposed to do. Either let him stir shit up, or let the forums die?

EDIT: I realize I didn’t really answer part of your question. I think personal attacks are obviously over the line. As well as breaking the other site rules. So while I know I’ve personally been more lenient recently, and even though the forums aren’t as active, I still don’t have time to read every new post. However, that becomes more the case when there’s drama or arguments because that’s what gets people posting.

This doesn’t mean I’m trying to encourage people to start drama or whatever, but I wish the active members would be active outside of drama and arguments.

thanks for reminding me that the report function exists, imma bout to start reporting ppl for derailing threads from this point towards.

People bring up an SF V comparison but I don’t think MK11 vs MK1 is as drastic a gameplay departure as SFV was to SF IV. I am optimistic that with good publicity and QOL patches that give parity between MK and its competitors would bring people back. Anecdotally, 09ers who started a SFIV who were soured by how SFV turned out fully moved to other games like Tekken and didn’t come back. I don’t think that has to be the case for MK1 because the game play is very similar.

I'm fucking awesome, I know.

To be honest, I wonder how some of these guys would handle this forum in 2011 or back when top players used to post here.

Yall don't know toxic like what would go down from time to time.

Anyway, very rarely do I argue with an infraction or a ban. I hold it most of the time.

That said, if I see something I disagree with, I'm going to say something. If I see a right wing nut job going off about DEI or wokeness, I'm going to speak up.

Additionally, I match people's tones. If you start an engagement on some fuck shit, I'll get on some fuck shit as well. I don't care.

I'm consistent in my values. More people should be.

Anyway, it sucks that the game isn't at France or whatever, but I'll be more shocked if it isn't at Vegas next year.

Until then, Ghostface.

How fucking sick was his teaser trailer?
