Online gaming communities are male dominated and that would heavily skew the results of an online Capcom community survey.

The Switch ownership study, I didn't choose because it confirms what I think. I thought about what would be the best way to confirm gaming demographics and I figured console ownership, people dropping $400+ dollars on their hobby is a pretty darn good indicator. I won't deny that people buy a console and then it collects dust but I see no reason why one gender would be significantly more prone to that behavior than the other so...the Switch study, done independently by a consumer analytics firm, I think it holds up better than the Capcom survey.

I don't even understand why this is something you won't want to be true...if a fighting game fanbase was a total sausage fest that's not something I'd be good with...

Switch (and nintendo consoles as a whole) are a family friendly console as are many nintendo products. Not that gamers can’t play Switch, but the people it attracts are not going to be the same as what PS or Xbox attract.

Children play Switch because their parents will buy them what is essentially an Ipad and Nintendo knows this.

There are games like Animal crossing which is a best seller that will mostly attract women, but we discussed that on the other topic (the khaos reigns one). The majority of female gamers are attracted to different games than men. I brought up the Sims in the last thread but you have also proved my point with Switch sales. They play “cutesy” games a lot more as a whole than men will and that’s just a fact.

Same way the poster above mentioned most tournaments attract males or excuse me let me word it in a derogatory phrase most of you will associate them with. “Sweaty fanboys”. It’s funny because a lot of you hate the very fanbase (mainly males) that has kept this franchise alive. You hate them like a lot of companies (and writers) have started to hate their fanbases. That’s all going to blow up in your faces eventually though. I’d say you’ve seen the beginning of that blow up with the backlash to MK1.

Pretty sure I've seen plenty of women play "hardcore" games. There was one I saw that beat BG3 on Honor mode with just one character. Another lady streamer I saw beat Elden Ring on a dance pad. You have women streamers and VTubers beating games like Fear and Hunger. It happens.

Had predatory monetization and tried (and really wanted) to charge customers for really shit seasonal dlc and got called out on it.

You can say they don’t but a visit to youtube, reddit, and any other form of social media that talks about MK you will find people talking about not liking it and that is GOOD because let me tell you a general audience is not going to voice that.

They’re just going to walk the fuck away and possibly not come back. So you need those voices speaking up. Why do you think the video game industry is struggling as a whole right now?

There are SOOO many game devs being laid off and NRS just got a dose of that with their mobile team.

People are speaking up man. I love MK and want it to survive and I’m sure all of you do too. So to have that happen you’ve got to stop sticking your heads in the sand and ignoring the criticisms.

You have to look at your fellow gamers and say you know what they’re not happy with this product. Maybe we need a more happy medium and THAT’s how we can move forward.

Why do you think the video game industry is struggling as a whole right now?

There's a lot to be said about this, but I personally agree with Razorfist on this one. It's not 'get woke, go broke', but it's more like 'get broke, go woke, then ultimately croak.'

Games have become incredibly expensive to make (based on the Insomniac data leak, Spider-Man 2 cost about 300 MILLION to make, which is flat out insane), and AAA games need investors more than ever in order to keep up with those overblown budgets. The investors (i.e. Blackrock) come with their own terms (MTX, DEI injections and wokeness to name a few) and you have all the ingredients for the perfect clusterfuck. And you can see that now publishers are so knee-deep in trouble that all it takes is a game to bomb for them to nuke the dev team which made it. (Also a reason of why devs and publishers are so afraid of taking risks - because when your game costs 100-300 million, you can't afford it to fail)

The only solution to this problem IMO is to back down on AAA budgets (which are overrated in terms of what they can offer anyway) and go back to AA games which cater and pander to the audience that has the money to give. Focus on fun gameplay and less of 4K cinematics which the player will only see once then press skip every time they encounter them. Don't hire 45 writers, don't hire Hollywood stars as VAs, don't hire consultancy firms (who do a half-ass job anyway - picking wrong country flags, wrong kanji symbols for Japanese representation, distort historical data, etc.), don't spend millions on marketing when all you need to do is release a kick-ass trailer on twitter and then word of mouth or YouTubers will do your work for you, etc.

Too bad that nothing that I said had anything to do with skill, but I guess that's how this website works. You guys remind of Little Kuriboh's YuGiOh series where they have various disagreements and they settle them over a card game, which is completely nonsensical.
