No it's not. A person who has only played a mobile gatcha game isn't a gamer in the same way that a person isn't a movie fan if the only movie they watch is Home Alone. Sure, we could compare say, two people who understand visual allegories or undertones when watching a movie, while others like the cinematography without being able to translate or completely understand it, but they both watch a lot of movies, spend a lot of time watching movies, and love discussing movies. It's the same with games. A person who spends most of their free time with a multitude of video games is a gamer. A person who spends most of their free time playing World of Warcraft isn't a gamer - they're a WoW fan.

And once more, resorting to personal insults because you simply cannot beat my arguments. You've been personally attacking me non-stop, passively aggressively writing on your profile posts about me without calling me by name (THAT's cowardice, btw), all because I said the word 'woke', which seems to have sent you into a frenzy. You're so desperate for a W that you keep trying to provoke me on a MK1 match, because that's what a person who can't defeat an argument does; they try to attack the person. For all your talk about renouncing stereotypes, your behavior is quite stereotypical - which again, helps my argument of stereotypes in the first place. You're literally self-owning yourself.

Also, considering the fact that you talk like you've been here forever, yet you only had 60 posts in your name when the whole debate with me started, I think it's pretty safe to assume this is not your actual account and you're probably a user who was banned here in the past. I can't imagine WHY.

I was about to say something which will own you, but then I remembered you are simping for Cetrion and I decided that's enough in itself.

Never started any beef - all I said was that genderswaps are lazy and some people took it as a personal assault on their recently-discovered beliefs. And that's on them, not me.

Because that's what people of that particular mentality do. They can't stand people having different opinions, so they try to shame those people into silence or making them leave. They are incapable of beating the argument so they attack the person instead.

My favorite part about your posts is how often you say people don't know what they're talking about or throw shots and insults at them or even let them know what you'd do to them "in real life", then as conversations go longer flip it into people just wanting to silence the truth and you are the true victim in all of it. Your consistency to the gimmick is admirable.

Im surprised some people talk about TYM like it still is the competitive MK website it was 10 years ago and not the mortalkombatonline2.0 site it's been for years now.
This site was always a resource for players of the game regardless of skill level. Sure, high level discussions were often led by competitive players, but everyone had their input.

It was never exclusively a competitive site, so it is weird that people are trying to say it is to win an argument with some dude you don't agree with.
Because it is? Yea there's still lots of casual discussions like "I don't like Noob's hat" and we don't have Evo winners posting regularly anymore, but the majority of posts, threads, and status updates are competitive gameplay related. Most posters here are too, and it attracts an older audience because it's a forum. So much so that this Beef thread is as close to a "general discussion " thread we've had in almost a decade. So it's not too much a shock when people are surprised when someone who is always "putting people in their place" can only do jump kick into sweep as a combo.

But tbh, you're right about one thing. For all that nonsense talk everyone should have known dude was garbage lol.

I told y’all most of the losers on this site that constantly argue and talk about pretty much everything but the actual game don’t even play it. Like, we have @Nickolaidas literally admitting to it, lol. ¯\(ツ)
My complaints have 99.9% nothing to do with the game's mechanics, so I don't see why my skill should be a pre-requisite in order for me to issue said complaints.

Also, lmao at a moderator calling one of the members 'a loser'. Truly a 'let's keep the peace' moment.

I didn’t say anything about anyone’s “skill”. And let me be clear, YOU are absolutely a “loser”.

I see your wall of text trying to declare for some reason that women aren't that interested in games and I present the fact that 52% of Switch owners are female

Let me guess...Mario games aren't game either

And once more, resorting to personal insults because you simply cannot beat my arguments.
People have had these conversations multiple times before so when they see the same old dumb things, well they're kinda over it so they just wanna call the dumb thing dumb. Others like @Marlow still take the time to give you thoughtful answers. You're not the first person to say things on the Internet and you won't be the last...I'm sure the next time someone tries to convince me a game isn't a game I'll be a little bit more tired of it too.

They are incapable of beating the argument
Your arguments revolves around drawing arbitrary lines and confirmation bias. Of course there's no beating this argument, I'm subscribed to reality and you're in a fantasy world where the things you believe are true.

Can you give me an example? Honestly curious.
The fact that you are trying to beat me in a video game because you couldn't beat me in a RL debate proves I am not dealing with a man, but a child.
You're making it sound like "in real life" you'd put people in their place because only you know everything, no one can touch you in "real life" you'd just body these "children". Now online, it's difficult to see your "intellectual superiority", but in real life no one can stop you. :DOGE

I'll put this little thing here.

Being good at a game takes understanding it at least somewhat deeply, so us people who play the game see that as proof of intellect in our specific area of expertise(hobby). When you have more knowledge about something, your opinion holds more weight amongst your peers.

some of us are just nerds who like to play the game at a level that the other 90% of nerds complain/can't comprehend

Boys have more testosterone than girls - this is an undisputed biological fact - which is the hormone which stimulates male characteristics, 'traits', if you will. As a result, boys are more prone to display male behavior than girls because they are biologically inclined to do so. Male behavior traits are competition
Then why are you so shit at a fighting game? running a little low on testosterone there @Nickolaidas ?

No one in this thread takes you seriously. That you think you've "won" anything is just proof with how sad and silly you are.

Real talk? If you had accepted the challenge, gotten completely wrecked and simply took the L, people would have way more respect for you than all this, "well achtshually, heh" coward shit.

Saying I won a debate is hardly 'I would do X to you in real life'. You're putting words in my mouth, which is unsurprising.

I honestly have no idea. I mean, back when I wanted to unlock that Noob mask in KL in MK11 (and was forced to play online for it - before they made it available temporarily in the Krypt), I managed to get the rank needed (I think it's the third worst?), but considering it was in the levels where you wouldn't lose XP when you lose a match, I don't know if it means something.

I agree. Which is why I do not speak about the gameplay aspects of the game. So what exactly is the disagreement here?

I talk about genderswaps, character designs and lore.

And some of the comebacks I hear is about game skill, which is a completely different topic.

Attempting to divert the conversation to a completely irrelevant topic in order to give the pretense of expertise does not magically make one the winner of the argument.

Yes, you post a survey which shows that 50% of Switch owners are girls. That's great. And I posted a Capcom survey which showed that 80% of their audience are men. So apparently, there is something dubious about the surveys. We can analyze it in a multitude of ways, and each of us will present it as proof of their case. We can also remember how amazing the Wii did back when it came out and how many consoles it sold, and to how many people - the young, the old, the male, the female. I mean, if that doesn't prove that old women play as many video games as young boys, what will?

OR ... we can look back and see that those people bought a Wii and Wii Sports and never again touched the damn thing, and we can realize that there is a difference between a gamer and between a person who buys 'the hottest thing right now'. A cousin of mine (male) is not a gamer - never was. Yet he bought a PSX back in the 90s because everyone and their dog had a PSX. He bought two games for it, and in one week it was gathering dust. Still counts as a PSX sale. Still counts as +1 Sony hardware units sold. Same with the Switch.

These. People. Are. Not. Gamers.

Again, in order to make myself clear, I am not saying that no women play video games, I am not saying that there aren't hardcore women gamers. All I am saying is that it's not the same percentage with men. I have had classmates, friends, relatives, co-workers of the opposite sex, and honestly the ratio of them being gamers was 1 out of 10. So yeah, perhaps I am personally biased due to real-life experience, but I'll take that over someone in the internet claiming otherwise.

But if I'm wrong, I'm wrong. C'est la vie.

You talk a lot about how people who play the game casually once or twice aren't gamers yet you admit that you don't really care about gameplay or the scene or mechanics either, you just sit playing against bots offline once in a while to get a cool looking skin which is no different that what these "fake gamers" you talk about are doing
So who are you to go and say who is and isn't a gamer? Cause by your logic you are not a gamer either

I consider a 'gamer' someone whose main hobby is playing a LOT of different video games. I don't think they necessarily need to be good in said games, as long as they devote a lot of their spare time in the hobby. If you play a LOT of games, you are a gamer. If you only play ONE game, you are a fan of that specific game, but not a gamer.

Refer to my movies analogy for it to make sense. If you've seen Home Alone ten thousand times but no other single movie, you are not a movie fan. You just like that particular movie very much.

Also, to add to this, I am not shit in EVERY single game. I have beaten games like Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, I have beaten Tetris' Classic Arcade mode, have beaten a few shoot em ups, back in the day, so I do think I have some skill. I love fighting games, but I was never really good with them. I can beat the CPU at medium difficulty, but that's hardly something to crow about, so I don't.

Online gaming communities are male dominated and that would heavily skew the results of an online Capcom community survey.

The Switch ownership study, I didn't choose because it confirms what I think. I thought about what would be the best way to confirm gaming demographics and I figured console ownership, people dropping $400+ dollars on their hobby is a pretty darn good indicator. I won't deny that people buy a console and then it collects dust but I see no reason why one gender would be significantly more prone to that behavior than the other so...the Switch study, done independently by a consumer analytics firm, I think it holds up better than the Capcom survey.

I don't even understand why this is something you won't want to be true...if a fighting game fanbase was a total sausage fest that's not something I'd be good with...

All fighting game tournaments are sausage fest. The only women there are cosplayers, spouses, and then there's a few friends and fans, but they're like 90% men. I'm not sure that is something NRS can fix or has anything to do with lol.
